Don't go anywhere...
We've got a few more Oscar wrap-up pieces coming but please stick around even if you're sick of Oscar talk ("Never!," some of you shout while others roll their eyes). We want to have a beautiful 2024 against the odds. We can't promise 5 articles a day as in the salad years or to keep up with the news like the trades do with their big budgets / full time staffs (though we foolishly tried for years) but hopefully what we lack in quantity we can make up for in quality. Here's a small sampling of things we're working on behind the scenes...
• SXSW reviews
• A Fatal Attraction appreciation (Reader Request)
• 50th anniversary look back at the 45th Academy Awards (Godfather vs Cabaret)
• Coverage of the upcoming Tony / Emmy seasons
• New Reviews Soon... and Cannes too (Elisa will cover again) to start the new film year
• April Foolish Oscar Predictions
And we're hoping to do more reader requests, too, as we miss the sense of community that brings when we're all watching the same things. Also plz follow on Facebook, Substack, Letterboxd, Instagram, and Twitter. (I am also on TikTok but still terrified to use it. Will follow back for moral support if you feel similarly)
xo, Nathaniel

You've been so off this season. Hope you get your groove back by the time Cannes kicks in. Get a Harris Dickinson.
Looking forward to it!
Looking forward to whatever you bring our way!
Also, kind of unrelated, but now that we see how much the Academy loved EEAAO, am I crazy for thinking that Ke Huy Quan would probably have won even if he’d been nominated in the Best Actor category (which I’m not necessarily saying he should have been, but it’s a big enough role that there’s an argument to be made for it)?
Could I request a look back at the now 30 year old 1993 Best Actress race seeing how everyone's feeling all peak Angela Bassetty.
Any sign of a 2022 Smackdown while everything is fresh in our minds?
I appreciate that all the articles on the site are worth reading. They are thoughtful, genuinely interested in and knowledgeable about their subject, and they invite conversation. The subjects that are new to the reader pique our interest and make us want to know more.
You have assembled a wonderful team of colleagues. I always like it when one of them delves into a particular cinematic interest that has fascinated them. The knowledgeable discussion of the cinematic history of the different genres that each colleague loves, always provides a new viewpoint.
There are lots of sites that are revolving click bait, that trail off after the first paragraph, poorly written by people who are bored or inwardly contemptuous of their subject, and think any movie before 2010 is “vintage”. We know where to go to get those.
Ohhhhh can't wait for FATAL ATTRACTION appreciation!
Nathaniel,
The Film Experience is THE BEST site about movies and the best place for Oscar Nerds. You're really THE GUY.
You said it all: it's about quality.
Working a lot these days, no time to read (and write) on all posts. 😥
"if you're sick of Oscar talk."
NEVER!!!!!!
Can't wait for The Godfather vs Cabaret.
Can't wait for Fatal Attraction appreciation.
Can't wait for Paul Mescal's nudes (can you help us with this point, Nathaniel?) 😁
Hey Nathaniel - it would be cool if you did an open discussion for FYC for your April Fools Predictions ;) I'm probably throwing my bad mojo on just mentioning these two, but please consider:
Jonathan Majors - Magazine Dreams
Julia Louis-Dreyfus - You Hurt My Feelings
