re: Colin Farrell
The Jude Law comparison is a fascinating one.... of course, he hasn't won. And I'm worried more than not. The heart-throb/movie star part of his career was staggeringly short thinking about it. In Bruges was 15 years ago, then he followed that with performances for Terry Gilliam, Neil Jordan, Martin McDonagh, Woody Allen, Liv Ullmann, Yorgos Lanthimos, Sofia Coppola etc etc. I think he's got such alchemy with McDonagh and I suspect he won't be back for a long time, if he is.
Great discussion. Totally agree about the sets and how the show was presented. Just lovely.
I am glad I am not on Social Media as I can imagine the vile things that we#re thrown Jamie's way.
I also never really heard many people say JLC could win on TFE.
Bassett or Curtis I'd have been happy if either won.
People talk about Bassett like she's a 10 time nominee but has never won,she hasn't been nominated for 30 years which is shame but I can only think of Waiting to Exhale where she was slightly in the conversation.
I don't agree on Taron I thought he was poor in RocketMan.
Farrell seems likeley to return soon,he was a good sport during awards season, happy for every winner.
Oscars do help careers but i've heard nothing for almost 4 years from Renee Zellweger,is she staying away or are the roles not there.
Mr. Ripley - My feelings toward Curtis are like yours toward Bassett. I just don't understand how that career is deserving of a "career honor" when people like Glenn Close, Amy Adams, or even Kirsten Dunst did not win the same award in recent years.
At the same time, I've watched the Oscars for so long I've become jaded about them, so I can't get worked up about it.
Thank you--love the podcasts.
@jules WHERE is renee??? I've wondered this too...
jules & charles -- didn't she just lead a tv miniseries?
