First and Last Reboot!
We're bringing back one of our greatest hits like an aging band on tour.
CAN YOU GUESS THE MOVIE FROM ITS FIRST SHOT?
If you need another hint the last shot (and the answer) are after the jump...

Yes, it's Call Me By Your Name (2017), currently streaming on Netflix, the film that made Timothée Chalamet a big star and should have won him a Best Actor Oscar, too. You know it's true. At least it won the eternally great James Ivory an Oscar after a very very long wait. Next up for Timothée is Dune Part Two -- the trailer already discussed right here.
The last shot, a long unbroken Oscar-worthy take, is justly iconic. But what an odd choice for a first shot, right? One of Elio's female admirers laying on his bed. (We then pan over to Elio, shirtless and he says in Italian "The Usurper" as he looks out the window. Little does he know this 'usurper' is about to change his life.)
Why do you think Director Luca Guadagnino chose to start the film with that shot after the memorable still photo credits?

I'd have to re-watch, but in a queer film that's so focused on the "gaze", that first shot would be loaded with meaning if she's gazing at Elio, and different meaning if he's not in her gaze.
One of my 10 favorite things about CMBYN is that it won Ivory his Oscar, and that he won it in an Elio shirt.
In this opening shot from Call Me By Your Name, Elio’s unnamed friend is in repose, waiting. Elio sits nearby waiting to hear his parents arrive with a houseguest. In the opening shot of We Are Who We Are, Fraser is standing at the lost and found counter, fidgeting and waiting. In the opening shot of Susperia, Patricia is standing at the edge of a protest, bouncing from foot to foot.
Perhaps director Guadagnino chooses to open his films with characters waiting for their story to begin.
Finbar-- ooh, i love that theory. thanks for sharing.
Mike -- also a great point as she is looking at him.
Not sure about the opening shot,it can be interpreted all kinds of different ways but that fire side close up is a beauty and so well acted.
I do think it's a great movie. It's a shame that it features Armie Hammer. Ew.
Wrong Thread. Great Movie.
Looking back on it... I think Austin Butler would've been the better choice to play Oliver.
One of my favorite films of the 2010s! It meant so much to me in 2017 and still does.
