Happy Birthday Scorpio Readers!

How many Scorpio readers do we have?  Is everything they say about your kind true: Passionate, dynamic, loyal, resourceful, jealous, obsessive and manipulative? You're quite a handful.

What do you want for your special day?

... I mean besides Drive's instantly iconic jacket which would look so good on you. You can actually convince your loaded friends to buy for you here. It's only $160. Do tell us your birthday wishes in the comments.

Ryan Gosling, who playes the driver in Drive -- which you've all seen twice by now, right? - is actually a Scorpio himself. (He turns 31 on November 12th). But for this day only, let us imagine other famous Scorpios in this silent and deadly role.

Ready?

Movies shapeshift immediately with a new face in the lead role, don't they!?

Which of those imaginary movies do you want to see.

A Tilda Swinton version of Drive would be all kinds of awesome. I also think McConaughey and Foster would be interesting.

I think DiCaprio would be even more ill-suited than RuPaul. His performances are always so earnest which just wouldn't work for the character.

I finally saw Drive tonight and loved it. I hope it becomes part of the oscar discussion, just so people actually see it.

As for the makeshift (all women cast, based on when they were the age the character is) -
Ryan's character (even though he was pretty much perfect) - Glen Close
Carrie - Shirley Maclaine
Albert - Agnes Moorehead
Bryan - Meryl Streep
Christina - Bette Davis

My birthday is next Saturday and I am hoping someone is going to bring me Tom Hardy wrapped in a lovely bow as a gift!

One can only hope! And yes it is true what they say about us!

October 23, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterLia

Tilda, of course. Why in the world would you choose anyone else (ever) (for anything)?

Okay, at least when your other options are Furrowed Brow DiCaprio and McConaughey, who couldn't even wear the jacket because of the shirtlessness-clause in his contract.

I share a birthday and birth year with Anne Hathaway--we're also the 12th of November.

my b/day is the 27th one day before julia roberts and same day as john cleese, and i am a sex mad movie actress lovin maniac!!!

I am a Scorpio, and all I want is that f'ing jacket. Incredibly fun, that would be to own. However, I think Scorpio's will find they have more in common with Fassbender's Brandon (Shame) than Goslings's Driver (Drive). Damn our inborn passion.

//Tilda, of course. Why in the world would you choose anyone else (ever) (for anything)?//

I'm with Jan on that one (shared name being a coincidence, of course - unless you're a guy, Jan?) I was going to say "none of the above, how could you replace Gosling?" until I saw Tilda's face. The rest sound more nightmarish (or just plain boring) than not.

October 23, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJanice

Mark -- Brandon? way to put it out there ;)

Jan -- of course you are correct. Tilda always.

Lia & /3rtfull & mark & mr ripley -- HAPPY BIRTHDAY IN ADVANCE

I think everyone is too easily dismissing the wonder that would be Rupaul as Driver. Just imagine it: "You have a five minute window, bitches." She would be pretty good in the Albert Brooks part too. And maybe also in the Bryan Cranston and/or Christina Hendricks parts. I just think I want to see an all-Rupaul cast of Drive. That would be something.

October 23, 2011 | Unregistered Commentertimothy

Janice -- Yeah, I'm a guy. Guess I forgot that native English speakers would assume otherwise when I chose that alias. But surely, gender is never an issue when We Need to Talk About Tilda? ;)

October 23, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJan

Timothy -- agreed. I thought of her because she already has the iconic race car driver outfits from those "drag race" promo. who needs scorpion jackets.

Ru before the big job: "Don't be throwing no shade, he just wants to get paid! You never go near his family again. Now sashay away!"

We Scorpios rule! My birthday is tomorrow, I'm turning 22!

I kind of love this ensemble of actor Scorpios...

Ryan Gosling, Tilda Swinton, Leo DiCaprio, Ben Foster, Julia Roberts, Joaquin Phoenix, Matthew McConaughey, Emma Stone, Ryan Reynolds, Anne Hathaway, Owen Wilson, Rachel McAdams... Such a great bunch of people.

Plus Kevin Kline, John Cleese, Jodie Foster, Wynona Ryder, Demi Moore, Meg Ryan, Goldie Hawn, Whoopi Goldberg, Sally Field, Mike Nichols and Martin Scorcese, Parker Posey, Danny DeVito... And Burt Lancaster, Vivien Leigh, Grace Kelly and Richard Burton!

Yay us!

Today is my birthday! I want that jacket so bad.

October 23, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterRyan T.

Not a fan of Owen Wilson but his version of Drive would be hilarious. I'd also see Ben Foster in anything (I am in love with Charlie Prince from 3:10 to Yuma) so I'll go with him too.

ryan T -- happy birthday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've read The Film Experience for about 6-7 years and I've never commented. It's my birthday tomorrow and I want to make my cinematic birthday wish: I want Cameron Crowe to make another movie as good as Almost Famous. If Frances McDormand is in that movie, all the better.

October 23, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterCash

Jan - Tilda - love knows no gender limits or boundaries, of course! (Doesn't EVERYONE adore her? Don't tell me "no", I don't want to know such people anyway.)

And I didn't want to make the assumption re: your gender/moniker; in fact I have seen online that there is a man named "Jan" who happens to share my last name, and is a star soccer player in Europe.

Cash -- i love you for finally commenting. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Scorpios are NOT loyal nor dependable. Leave that to Taurus (my sun sign) and Cancer (my rising and moon sign :P).

Scorpios really are incredibly enthralling, seductive and possessive. Just like the other two Water signs, they are extremely healing and nurturing of the ones their love. But they can shut you out from all the great things they have to offer just as quickly as they open up and welcome you into their world.

Their "all or nothing" attitude is very hard to deal with. Actually, surviving a relationship with a Scorpio is a true testament to unconditional love. I'm with a Scorpio guy, who also has Scorpio rising and he has undoubtedly provided me the most beautiful and happiest times of my life along with some of the darkest and most painful ones.

*zodiac rant over*

Zé -- my best friend is a scorpio so i hear what you're saying ;) but we've been friends for 17 years now so it's been a ride. ;)

Today is my birthday and I haven't seen Drive yet ( I hail from the Philippines) but I intend to. I want for my birthday to become Tilda Swinton for a day. Those bone structure is worth a life, I think.

October 24, 2011 | Unregistered Commenterthe hallucinator

There is an astrological conspiracy that attempts to thwart and demote Scorpios. We are always labeled as sexually preoccupied and what-have-yous. But what you have mentioned above are all true in my case::Passionate, dynamic, loyal, resourceful, jealous, obsessive and manipulative. Scorpios are a handful and we are one of the most interesting, if not The Most interesting, zodiac sign.

I have been following this blog for four years now. The Oscar predictions and the smorgasbord of Tinseltown knickknacks are Awe-some!.

the hallucinator -- HAPPY BIRTHDAY. I'd grant you you're Tilda For a Day wish were it in my power on your special day.

October 24, 2011 | Registered CommenterNATHANIEL R

Woohoo, another scorpio checking in here. I share November 16 with Burgess Meredith and Lisa Bonet.

For my birthday, can you arrange a month-long Jacques Demy festival in New York, maybe at Lincoln Center? With Umbrellas of Cherbourg playing every Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday? Thanks!

October 24, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterAR

AR -- i'll get right on it.
