It's like flipping channels for snapshots of the film year! For those who like a mnemonic challenge, I've written the film titles in invisible ink below each screencap (you can highlight to see them). Would any of these tiny glimpses make you want to stop channel surfing and watch?

I've seen The Adjustment Bureau and Win Win. Sadly, I remembered the first one and didn't guess the latter. :/
Johnn -- everytime i think of THE ADJUSTMENT BUREAU i become infuriated that Blunt & Damon wasted all that A+ chemistry on a lame film. Nowadays hollywood doesn't repair stars in film after film once A+ chemistry is discovered so this was probably it. BOO!
The quote in Uncle Boonmee feels exactly what the film is supposed to be.
I didn't like The Adjustment Bureau, but this shot is cool.
It's good to remember how fun Potiche is...And I'm also struggling with the decision of watching Sucker Punch.
Sucker Punch is TERRIBLE! And not in the good way :)
Ahhh...Potiche...what a cute little movie!
Here's the deal with Sucker Punch. It is no worse than your typical shoot-em-up action film. The difference is that Zack Snyder decided to add in an arguably feminist critique into the action/fantasy genre that comes across as sexist to a whole lot of people. I did not think it was offensive--I actually liked the conceit of the film--but quite a few writers I respect came down against it. If you want to watch it just because of the Effects short-listing, find the fight sequences online. They're fantastic. Everything in between the fights/action sequences is so wildly uneven that I can't imagine anyone calling the film anything more than average at best.
At its best, Sucker Punch plays like a dream ballet in an old Broadway musical. Too bad Snyder insisted on adding so much dialog. So let me amend my previous statement: watch the first 8 minutes, then fast forward to the fight/espionage sequences.
UNCLE BOONMEE and JANE EYRE - two of my favourites of 2011
RANGO - my favourite animated children's movie of 2011 (in a year of really crap ones - CARS 2, RIO, YOGI BEAR)
WIN WIN - watched it on the plane over to USA. Always like Tom McCarthy's stuff
LIMITLESS - disposable fun (which is what I needed when I saw it)
THE LINCOLN LAWYER - always a sucker for a court thriller
POTICHE - HATED it (sorry, Nathaniel)
SUCKER PUNCH -over-maligned movie (it was what it was, people, and did it well. Plus it did have a plot)
The Adjustment Bureau has made its way to cable and, you know what? It holds up a lot better than I thought it would - although I would probably have to concede that it's largely due to that A+ chemistry you mention. I think part of its problem is that they made the film like a romantic drama when the story is really so much more than that.
I still haven't seen Win Win, Limitless, or the Lincoln Lawyer even though I hear good things about them (mostly about Win Win). Still debating whether or not to see Jane Eyre. I love Mia and Fassy (DUH) but it just looks so dour and I'm not the biggest fan of that story. Potiche, unfortunately, only played in one theater here for only two weeks. Same thing with Certified Copy. Uncle Boonmee only played for a week. It really bugged me. I can't wait to see all three of those.
I keep forgetting that I saw Rango until someone mentions it, and then I remember what a good time it was. It's quite the odd film, but it's hard not to love the homages to the westerns and noirs of yore.
I REALLY wanted to see Sucker Punch based on the trailers, even though it did kind of look like a mess. But after those awful reviews I decided to pass. I'll catch up with it eventually, because of the dragons, Carla Gugino, and Jenna Malone, but my heart isn't really in it anymore. (I'm secretly hoping that if I lower my expectations enough, it will surpass them)
Limitless is Danny Boyle/Darren Aronofsky-lite fun...it proved, officially, that Bradley Cooper is a charismatic leading man. But is he an actor?
The Lincoln Lawyer felt like a pilot to a new procedural TV series. MM was damn good.
I luuurvvveed Jane Eyre and Win WIn, although Win Win felt a little TV-ish as well.

I watched Potiche the other night and just adored it. And that whole scene was hilarious! "Pujol, asshole! Pujol, asshole! Pujol, asshole!" LOL
Love that you've included Take Me Home Tonight. Not great cinema, but good mindless fun. Which you need every once in a while.
Nat, the screencap of Uncle Boonme reminded me to tell you this, Tilda Swinton is going to work on a short film with Apichatpong W. early next year. I read an article about it last week. She's going to come to Thailand, co-handling a private film festival with him in the south of Thailand, then they gonna shoot a short film together. I remember that she was really a big fan of Apichatpong's "Tropical Malady" so this is such a blissful news to us moviegoers.
I thought that screencap of Adjustment Bureau was from Source Code. They are that similar in my head.
