Film Bitch Awards Continue
Sunday, March 20, 2011 at 10:27PM Our annual awards jamboree went into an unexpected coma due to Oscar exhaustion but the film bitch awards are back as we try and really not just sorta wrap up the 2010 film year. So here are BEST POSTER, SEXPOT and DIVA OF THE YEAR featuring achievements from Cher, Joan Rivers, I Am Love, Fish Tank, Burlesque, Love and Other Drugs and yes even Alice in Wonderland (among other films).
So that's six pages down. One more to go. Woohoooooo almost finis! (Just in time for the NEW Oscar predictions for 2011 which always kick off in some form on April 1st ). We'll fill in the BEST SCENES next (final page) but I'm still debating various efforts, like this number below for Best Musical Number in a Non Musical Film.
Since not many of you saw Hrithik Roshan in Kites here's the film's best scene. Someone told me it was edited out for the US version of the movie (they released three versions I believe) which is in-san-it-y since there's plenty of unnecessary filler elsewhere in the movie (seriously you could lose like 10 minutes simply by shaving of 10 seconds from every scene involving long soulful gazes between Hrithik and Barbara Mori there are so many of them) and this is Hrithik's only musical number. And don't people buy tickets for his movies because of the dance numbers?
I could watch him dance for hours. So it's kind of annoying that the editing is so hyperactive. I mean his body is all the hyperactivity one needs, always locking, shaking, popping, flipping, swaying, slinking, swerving, slurving (I made that last word up) and busting out all over. Hrithik just missed the sexpot list. The sexiest people are, generally speaking, the ones who just exude carnality (Mila Kunis in Black Swan and Tom Hardy in Inception, hell-O) without every noticeably forcing the point. But since Hrithik is basically a superhero made flesh, one forgives most of the oversized everything so... almost! Here's hoping he gets another chance headlining an international effort like Kites, just a better one next time.

Another tough year for Best Actress! Crossing my fingers for Keira. :)

I know you posted the villain piece earlier, but having just seen "Never Let Me Go" I gotta ask about Hailsham since it's noted that they were, in fact, the good guys in the large evil pond. Trying to prove these products did in fact have souls, giving them the breath of the Hailsham school rather than sticking them in the battery farms of the other schools. Or, perhaps, that's just how I understood it. Kinda like Hailsham are the whistleblowers of an evil corporation. They may still be bad because they partook in the evil, but they're not as evil as the others? er... moving on.
Love the Diva categories and your poster contenders are all fine. All of your top five were in my top 15 of the year, I believe. L&OD was my #2 and The Runaways my #1.
The animal jaw poster for Animal Kingdom was the Sundance poster. Never used for any theatrical release, unfortunately.

I'm not Danielle, but in the interview linked to below, Cronenberg makes it clear that Fassbender is the lead and Mortensen is supporting. He also makes it sound like Knightley is a lead, which is probably how it'll turn out. But you never know with category fraud.

A. He wasn’t our first choice for Freud. It’s not the lead role in the movie, for example. We had gone to Christoph Waltz. If you haven't already, you have GOT to watch some of Hrithik Roshan's previous movies!!! He is SOOO gorgeous and souful and really such a romantic/heartfelt actor. I mean, I know Bollywood over does the soulful gazes but if you're gonna have 'em, you should have a guy who can really deliver them like Hrithik!!!. This guy is a wonder and I really, really hope someone gets smart and uses him over here. I think women would swoon all over themselves (and some men, too, but he really does operate on an emotionally available level that American men might have some trouble with - even the gay ones(!). JODHAA AKBAR is probably his best role (certainly his butchest) - he doesn't dance in it, he fights with a sword!!! It's this huge epic which he carries extremely well. You got it absolutely right when you wrote he's a superhero in the flesh. KABHI KHUSHI KABHIE GHAM is an early film for him when he was ripe and tenderly beautiful - it's a tearjerker like you wouldn't believe it - but God is Hrithik charming in it (he sings and dances lots) and it's also got Shah Rukh Khan (who is probably the biggest star in Bollywood right now - like a Tom Hanks but actually still doing movies!) and Kajol - oh she is sooo great!!! in DHOOM 2 Hrithik''s all violent and tough and sexy and in KRRISH he plays this sort of dorky, other worldy guy. And, even though the movie isn't very good, Hrithik is really, really something in Guazaarish playing a parapelegic - talk about soulful performing. This guy is really, really something special, Nate, and I think you're someone who could see past some of the Bollywood fluff to the truth. I do hope you watch and then comment. Let's keep talking about him until someone over here gives him a movie!!!

Love that sexpot category! Though surely Emma Stone should have snuck in. Mine would be Fassbender/Harding/Stone/Kunis/Cotillard, but yeah, you nailed most of my faves.
Action Sequence: Helen Mirren with her ball gown and her machine gun. Amazing.
Musical Moments: "Pocket Full of Sunshine" and "Knock on Wood" from Easy A; "But I Am a Good Girl" from Burlesque; "I See the Light" from Tangled, mostly for the gorgeous scenery
Kiss & Sex Scenes: If you're counting I Killed My Mother, the sex scene in there is pretty gorgeous; totally stealing from someone else on here, but that fake Easy A sex scene was hilarious; and the kissing between Adams/Wahlberg in The Fighter was pretty hot (I doubt I need to mention Kunis/Portman)
Opening & Closing Scenes: The closing of Toy Story 3 was lovely, though the close of Black Swan and Inception were easily my favorite scenes of the year. Best opening easily goes to The Social Network, though the Universal logo as Nintendo memorabilia in Scott Pilgrim was pretty cute.
Credits: I really liked Tangled's credit sequence. I can't remember most of these though.
Best Moments in general: The Black Swan dance; "Why didn't he just make another angel?" from Rabbit Hole; all scenes with the parents from Easy A; "I have to let you go" from Inception, as well as Fisher opening his father's safe; the toys holding hands going to the fire in Toy Story 3; Vegan police in Scott Pilgrim; the dragon flight in How To Train Your Dragon.
I'm sort of shocked the poster of Somewhere didn't make it as one of the best posters of the year. I thought it was remarkable. :(

I think you pretty much nailed all the nominees for Poster, Sexpot and Diva. Except I would've added Michael Shannon's crazy-ass manager to Diva. Black Swan is SO getting the gold for the amazing collection of posters it had. I also would've superficially added Bradley Cooper from The A-Team in Sexpot. I blame all those shirtless/half nude scenes for my endless objectification of him. Also Marion in Inception for Diva. Bitch had presence!
