Favorite of the year so far (of two) is Limitless.
I just hate that I have seen only two 2011 movies so far, but the local blockbuster closed, and the family doesn't have Netflix yet.
I can't wait to see: The Tree of Life and Contagion.
If I had Captain America's shield I would, bash Joe Johnston in the face and get a better director, such as Paul Verhoeven, in the chair.
Stephen Daldry will win the Oscar for Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close in February but he should have won for nothing he's done.

I hate that school is starting again soon and my movie-watching will suffer.
I can't wait to see Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and Beginners
If I had Captain America's shield I would take it to the World Cup and wave it around like an indestructible flag.

GLENN CLOSE and VIGGO MORTENSE will win the Oscar for ALBERT NOBBS and A DANGEROUS METHOD (respectively) in February but they really should've won for FATAL ATTRACTION (Close) and for EASTERN PROMISES (Mortensen).

If I had Captain America's shield, I would use it to shade myself from this 110 degree heat

Meryl Streep will win the Oscar for The Iron Lady in February but they really should've won for Devil Wears Prada

Ugh. I just hate the constant and incessantly frustrating coverage of the miraculous nature of Midnight in Paris's success.

I can't wait to see Albert Nobbs and A Dangerous Method.

If I had Captain America's shield, I would defend the American public from anymore franchises, series, or films about Snow White.

Glenn Close will win the Oscar for Albert Nobbs in February but they really should've won for Dangerous Liaisons.

- Certified Copy
- The Hangover Part II
- Crazy Stupdi Love (TONIGHT!!)

Favorite movie of the Year so far : Bridesmaids
I hate that Mad Men isn't coming back till January. Nope, still not over it!
I can't wait to see Crazy Stupid Love, Like Crazy, (God of) Carnage, and War Horse.
If I had Captain America's shield, I would use it to blast through Midtown Tourist foot traffic.
Leo will win the Oscar for J. Edgar, but he SHOULD have won for The Departed (I'll never get why he was nominated for Blood Diamond over The Departed, except for the Political Message of it. Lame.)

July 21, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterKim

Brian -- do you always do what songs tell you to do ? (uh oh)

Kim -- amen to your Leo preferences. and brilliant idea for shield usage. I mean. that shit is insane in midtown. UGH.

My favorite movie of the year so far is Tree of LIfe

Ugh. I just hate tiny movie theaters. Saw Beginners and Midnight in Paris at tiny theaters. I need to be more of a bitchy purist about that.

I can't wait to see We Need to Talk About Kevin . Oh yes...I'm a lot of fun.

If I had Captain America's shield, I would...I don't know. First I'd have to look up exactly what its mystic abilities are. I have some perfunctory comic book knowledge by osmosis (my older brother had like four floor to ceiling shelves filled with them), but Captain America was never on my radar. So, I'd probably use the shield as some kind of decorative conversation art piece at dinner parties. Yep, gaying up the Captain America shield over here.

I'm going out on a limb and saying Tilda Swinton is going to win an Oscar for We Need to Talk About Kevin in February. Everything I'm hearing, "Too strange, too dark, too un-Academy" are the same things, frankly, that people were saying about Black Swan after Venice and Telluride last year. Plus, people sometimes forget how much people like Tilda Swinton as a person. She's very charming and that always helps. Tilda Swinton really should have won an Oscar for...well, the Oscar she has is totally justified. I would also add to the roster Oscars for Julia and Female Perversions.

My favorite movie of the year so far is: Midnight in Paris (Sorry! I've only seen two new movies this year and the other one was Bridesmaids.)

Ugh. I just hate: a lot of things but for this post I'll limited to American Conservatism.

I can't wait to see new Almodovar.

If I had Captain America's shield, I would beat some balls into Meryl Streep so she can earn her title as The Best.

Glenn Close will win the Oscar for Albert Nobbs in February but they really should've won for Dangerous Liaisons.

July 21, 2011 | Unregistered Commenter/3rtfu11

the pretentious -- it doesn't actually have any mystic abilities. it's just made of VIBRANIUM which is the strongest metal in existence (though i'm not sure how it ranks in comparison to ADAMANTIUM (wolverine's claws) which are also part of the marvel universe and also the strongest metal. Hmmmmm

gay up Cappy all you want ;) !

My favorite movie of the year so far is the Tree of LIfe.

Ugh. I just hate most of the movies this year...

I can't wait to see Melancholia (Kiki!!!)

If I had Captain America's shield, I would cook hotpot in it:)

David Fincher will win the Oscar for Girl with the Dragon Tattoo in February but they really should've won for The Social Network.

July 21, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterMarshall1

*GLENN CLOSE and VIGGO MORTENSE will win the Oscar for ALBERT NOBBS and A DANGEROUS METHOD (respectively) in February but they really should've won for FATAL ATTRACTION (Close) and for EASTERN PROMISES (Mortensen).

sorry... Viggo Mortensen shouldn't have won for EASTERN PROMISES, Day-Lewis was so Oscar worthy for THERE WILL BE BLOOD. I replace him for LEONARDO DICAPRIO, who will win for J. EDGAR but should've won for THE DEPARTED, but he wasn't even nominated!

July 21, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterEd

My favorite movie of the year so far is Bridesmaids. Or The Tree of Life. Followed closely by HP7: Part 2, which surpassed my expectations by A LOT.

Ugh. I just hate Hollywood's incurable sequel-itis. And that it got a hold of Pixar.

I can't wait to see Kirsten Dunst in Melancholia. And The Artist.

If I had Captain America's shield, I would hold it for ransom. Come and get it, Chris Evans!

David Cronenberg will win the Oscar for A Dengerous Method in February but he really should've won for A History of Violence. (A boy can dream, can't he?)

July 21, 2011 | Unregistered Commenterdenny

My favorite movie of the year so far is __THE TREE OF LIFE___

Ugh. I just hate _the fact I don’t have enough money to go to film festival_

I can't wait to see __A DANGEROUS METHOD & CARNAGE___

If I had Captain America's shield, I would _trade it with an AIR CONDITIONER_

_RYAN GOSLING/LEONARDO DICAPRIO_ will win the Oscar for __THE IDES OF MARCH/J. EDGAR__ in February but they really should've won for _HALF NELSON/THE AVIATOR___.

July 21, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterMikhael

My favorite movie of the year so far is Midnight in Paris.

Ugh. I just hate this oppressive heat and the lack of time and money to watch movies all day, every day.

I can't wait to see a bunch of films namely Crazy Stupid Love, Drive, and The Ides of March. Basically I need more Ryan Gosling in my life.

If I had Captain America's shield, I would sell it to the government and/or most rabid fanboy. I'll take the highest offer, thankyouverymuch.

Woody Allen will win the Oscar for Original Screenplay in February but he really should've won for Match Point. (Though I'd be please with him winning this year since I did love the movie.)

July 21, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterRyan T.

Glad to know I am not alone in my preference for Leo in The Departed. That was the first movie where I legitimately bought him as a MAN in. Not that I wasn't a fan before, but for some reason he just really clicked in that one for me.

Nathaniel, I work in Times Square. Sidewalk Rage is a real thing, and I struggle with it everyday :-)

July 21, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterKim

My favorite movie of the year so far is The Tree of Life. The same for everyone.

Ugh. I just hate Kevin James. Two awful movies in one year...

I can't wait to see Young Adult. Jason Reitman is 3 for 3. And more Diablo Cody!

If I had Captain America's shield I would fight some Natzis in a surely Oscar nominated movie.

David Fincher will win the Oscar for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo in February but he really should've won for The Social Network. It still hurts.

July 21, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterBrady

My favorite movie of the year so far is Bridesmaids (I haven't seen much else though).

Ugh. I just hate the fact that it costs so much to go to the movies and I'm a broke college student.

I can't wait to see Melancholia!!! Counting down.

If I had Captain America's shield, I would...Idk, keep it? Or make Chris Evans come get it from me. *drools*

Meryl Streep will win the Oscar for The Iron Lady in February but they really should've won for The Devil Wears Prada.

July 21, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterPhilip

My favorite movie of the year so far is -- Beginners/Tree of Life/Bridesmaids

Ugh. I just hate -- the nightmare of awful and bloated summer movies

I can't wait to see -- We Need To Talk About Kevin/Drive/The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

If I had Captain America's shield, I would -- incorporate seamlessly it into my daily use somehow

Alexandre Desplat -- will win the Oscar for -- something, eventually -- in February but they really should've won for -- Lust Caution or Birth. Although I don't believe anyone is safe at this moment. Toronto, as always, will clear up many things and that's only TWO months away :O

July 21, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterMark

My favorite movie of the year is Midnight in Paris, but like many i have not seen a lot of movies this year. Nothing has really incited me to fork over $10.

Ugh I just hate the general place of American politics in today's society. It literally sickens me.

I can't wait to see Contagion, We Need to Talk About Kevin, and A Dangerous Method.

If I had Captain America's shield, I would use it to prohibit and stop the financing of all these ridiculous and extravagant superhero sequel movies (if you're going to make big-budget, summer films...make them like The Dark Knight, District 9, Inception)

Keira Knightley will win the Oscar for A Dangerous Method but she shouldn't have won anything so far (even though she was great in Pride & Prejudice and Atonement...hopefully her win will be justified).

July 21, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterAaron

My favorite movie of the year so far is Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Pt. II. No other movie this year caused more tears and cheers than that movie so far.

Ugh. I just hate the Transformers franchise. I haven't seen Robot S#it, Part III and i have no plans on changing that.

I can't wait to see Melancholia and Beautiful Boy. The end of the world is so far up Lars' alley to the point where you pretty much don't even need to see the movie. Beautiful Boy (and We Need to Talk about Kevin) seems like great performances on a topic that is rarely approached in cinema.

If I had Captain America's shield, I would use it to block the sun while walking....what else can it be used for? Ultimate frisbee?

I will win the Oscar for my performance at the airport where i managed to gain an employee's sympathy and privileges when i missed a flight in February but i really should've won for stupidly getting drunk and passing out in my bathroom for an hour and then going out with some friends soon after as if it never happened.

(a.k.a 'i have no idea how to complete this sentence otherwise because i have no idea with Oscar predictions so far')

July 21, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterDerreck

My favorite movie of the year so far is The Trip (as distinct from the BEST movie of the year, which for me is Tree of Life).

Ugh. I just hate watching shitty movies make a billion dollars at the box office - it's depressing, yo.

I can't wait to see Twixt Now and Sunrise, the new Coppola movie!

If I had Captain America's shield, I would use it to score some chicks - why not?

LEO!!!! will win the Oscar for J. Edgar in February but they really should've won for Basketball Diaries, Catch Me If You Can, The Aviator, and The Depahted - that's right, I'm *that* much of a DiCaprio fanboy.

July 21, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterRoark

He should've also won for Shutter Island (well, been nominated at last) - sorry, I forgot about that one. :)

July 21, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterRoark

My favorite movie of the year so far is _Win WIn_

Ugh. I just hate _being broke_

I can't wait to see _Midnight in Paris (Monday!) _

If I had Captain America's shield, I would _fight bad guys_

_Emmanuel Lubezki_ will win the Oscar for _The Tree of Life_ in February but he ALSO should've won for _Children of Men_

July 21, 2011 | Unregistered Commenterben

My favorite movie of the year so far is Beginners, but the Potterphile in me has a deep affection for Deathly Hallows Pt. 2 .

Ugh. I just hate how all the "Oscar" and festival movies are held until the end of the year. It's pure hell hearing how good something is knowing you won't get a chance to see it until New Years.

I can't wait to see Nicole Kidman's next movie, whatever it may be. Well, unless it stars Adam Sandler and was not directed by PTA. If that's the case, I'll wait until her clips are posted on YouTube or F/X-TBS-TNT show it 10,000 times a month.

If I had Captain America's shield, I would hold it while drinking some beer at a bar. Something mundane, but absurd with a shield in hand.

Christopher Plummer will win the Oscar for Beginners in February but they really should've won for The Insider, if only to keep Michael Caine from winning that year (Jude Law should've won hands down, and Haley Joel Osment was lead). If Plummer does win, I hope people won't dismiss it as an "honorary" thing. It was a really lovely performance.

July 21, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterVal

Win Win

I hate that you would vote for Sigourney now.

La piel que habito

I would destroy it and maybe there would be no sequel.

Glenn Close will win the Oscar for Albert Nobbs. She should've won for Fatal Attraction and Dangerous Liaisons. Yes, in a row.

July 21, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterPeggy Sue

My favorite movie of the year so far is The Tree of Life, by far.

Ugh, I just hate every single network news station in America. They're all so full of bullshit.

I can't wait to see Drive.

If I had Captain America's shield, I would use it as a bogey-board on the beach.

Gary Oldman will win the Oscar for Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy in February but he really should've won for Sid & Nancy.

July 21, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterRobert Hamer

My favorite movie of the year so far is Kung Fu Panda 2.

Ugh. I just hate the abundance of superhero movies out right now, I think that after The Dark Knight Rises, Hollywood should be forced to stop making any for at least 10 years (when they will undoubtedly reboot all of them).

I can't wait to see A Dangerous Method.

If I had Captain America's shield, I would restore it to its rightful place on Stephen Colbert's wall.

Emmanuel Lubezki will win the Oscar for The Tree of Life in February but they really should've won for Children of Men.

July 21, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJohn-Paul

1. My favorite movie of the year so far is X-Men: First Class (the best so far The Tree of Life)

2. Ugh. I just hate bad projection in movie theaters :(

3. I can't wait to see A Dangerous Method and Shame

4. If I had Captain America's shield, I would sell it on eBay.

5. Leonardo DiCaprio will win the Oscar for J. Edgar in February but he really should've won for Revolutionary Road.

July 21, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterAntonio A

My favorite movie of the year so far is a tie! Between Midnight in Paris and Super 8. Nostalgia for the win!

Ugh. I just hate that I have to wait for Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.

I can't wait to see Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.

If I had Captain America's shield, I would display it to any single ladies visiting the apartment.

Leonardo DiCaprio will win the Oscar for J. Edgar in February but they really should've won for The Aviator.

July 21, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterWalter

My favorite movie of the year so far is "Win Win," followed closely like "Jane Eyre" and "Hanna."

Ugh. I just hate my horrible, horrible coworker.

I can't wait to see my horrible, horrible coworker leave the company on August 5. Oh, and "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy" and "A Dangerous Method."

If I had Captain America's shield, I would shield myself from my coworker's horribleness.

Michelle Williams will win the Oscar for "My Week with Marilyn" in February but they really should've won for "Blue Valentine."

Did I mention that my coworker is horrible?

July 21, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterLiz N.

My favorite movie of the year so far is: Meek's Cutoff

I just hate: that Sandra Bullock has any sort of respect/credibility, let alone an Academy Award

I can't wait to see: Julianne Moore as Sarah Palin

If I had Captain America's shield I would: Probably hock it on EBay to pay my school loans

Michelle Williams will win an Oscar for My Week with Marilyn in February, but she really should have won for Wendy & Lucy.

July 21, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterKEVIN M.

My favorite movie of the year so far is either Super 8 (if only because the only other films I've seen in theaters this year are Limitless, Bad Teacher and The Hangover 2) or The Adjustment Bureau (saw that on DVD).

Ugh. I just hate Tyler Perry.

I can't wait to see Melancholia and A Dangerous Method (and Trespass, because I will watch Nicole Kidman in anything).

If I had Captain America's shield, I would throw it at Tyler Perry.

Leonardo DiCaprio will win the Oscar for J. Edgar in February but he really should've won for Revolutionary Road. (Not sure I really believe that...I just didn't want to leave any blank lol)

July 21, 2011 | Unregistered Commenterthefilmjunkie

My favorite movie of the year so far is Page One

I just hate that so many people think Tree Of Life is boring.

I can't wait to see Beats, Rhymes and Life.

If I had Captain America's Shield I would probably use it for collecting loose change.

Alexander Payne will win the Oscar for The Descendents, but he really should have won it for Citizen Ruth

July 21, 2011 | Unregistered Commentertimothy

My favorite movie of the year so far is Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II.

Ugh. I just hate being broke.

I can't wait to see The Dark Knight Rises, The Hobbit Films and Star Trek 2.

If I had Captain America's shield, I would throw it at Tom Rothman for ruining The X-Men franchise and most genre films at 20th Century Fox.

Hulk Hogan will win the Oscar for Suburban Commando 2 in February but he really should've won for No Holds Barred... lmao.

July 21, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterDaniel Armour

My favorite movie of the year so far is "Beginners"

Ugh. I just hate Natalie Portman's Oscar win. (I'm bitter ... I'm sorry!)

I can't wait to see Albert Nobbs.

If I had Captain America's shield, I would deflect all rom com scripts from ever reaching Jennifer Aniston's agent.

Glenn Closs will win the Oscar for Albert Nobbs in February but they really should've won for The World According to Garp. Can you believe she lost to Jessica Lange in Tootsie ?!?!?!

July 21, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterBilly Held an Oscar

My favorite movie(s) of the year so far (are) MEEK'S CUTOFF and THE FUTURE

Ugh. I just hate the commercials for THE SMURFS. There goes another one. They're just shamelessly godawful. You couldn't drag me to that movie. My Worst of the Year List will be just fine without it, thank you very much.

I can't wait to see WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT KEVIN.

If I had Captain America's shield, I would take a cue from Nat, and test its Vibranium to Logan's Adamantium. That's all I was thinking when it was introduced. For all its AVENGERS cookies, CAPTAIN AMERICA sure likes to pretend the rest of the cinematic Marvel universe doesn't exist. I guess the Fantstic Four are now the Thrilling Three since the Human Torch has found a new job.

I don't know about the Oscar question. My head so isn't there yet.

July 21, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterKurtis O

Of Gods and Men

Republicans

The films that are released in November, December and January.

Give it to Obama

Meryl Streep will win for Iron Lady but should have won forThe Deer Hunter, Silkwood, Ironweed, A Cry in the Dark, Bridges of Madison County, Adaptation (any one of those).

July 21, 2011 | Unregistered Commenterbrandz

My favorite so far is deathly hallows part 2. Its flawed, rushed, has plot holes, is sometimes anti-climatic and underwhelming, but as a major potterhead, I like it! And I havent been that impressed with 2011 as far as movies are concerned.

I hate romcons, sarah Jessica parker, kate hudson, natalie portman's Oscar win, glee always nominated for major awards while being awful and lame! I hate that I cant think that midnight in Paris is in my opinion just an average picture without people looking down on me!

I cant wait to see the skin I live in, melancholia, carnage, a dangerous method, tree of life

I have no idea about the oscars so I'll say meryl. Isnt that what people always say whenever she has a new movie coming out? And this one is pure bait: real person + britsh + historical + accent + political + biographical + real person still alive!

July 21, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterAmanda

Let me Make it clear that I dont think deathly hallows part 2 is such a great movie in itself and I wouldnt nominate it for best picture. I think the series has been uneven, flawed, poorly written and directed in a very impersonal way. But its the last. There will never be another book or movie, so this is my favorite of the year for sentimental reasons

July 21, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterAmanda

my favorite movie(s) of the year so far are Jane Eyre, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II and The Tree of Life. Though the third alarmed me because I felt so passionate watching it and then instantly indifferent the moment I left the theater.

Ugh. I just hate hate hate the idea that Leo Dicaprio might win an Oscar a la Kate Winslet for yet another mediocre, uninspired screaming spittle performance, just because they're tired of nominating him all the time and because he'll be so "brave" for making out with Armie Hammer. I realize that the intensity of my hate for his acting borders almost on the irrational. Also, I kind of hated the two last trailers I saw: The Amazing Spiderman and Hugo. They both look so.....unfortunate.

I can't wait to see The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. And The Hobbit and TDK Rises and they're all so far awayyyyy! And Melancholia.

If I had Captain America's shield, I would protect the world from the upcoming Twilight film.

Leo will probably win the Oscar, as aforementioned, but he never deserved it in the first place. Yeah, that's right.

July 21, 2011 | Unregistered Commentercaroline

My favorite movie of the year so far is... interestingly, JANE EYRE.

Ugh. I just hate... Mariska Hargitay. Sorry to beat a man when he's down, but come on Academy, every freakin' time?

I can't wait to see... All of you had good picks but I'll try to be different and say SHAME. Steve McQueen, Carey Mulligan, Michael Fassbender (pardon me, Our Lord of Ubiquity)? I'm sold. Other movies I'm anxiously awaiting? TAKE THIS WALTZ (Polley + Williams), LOVE (Haneke and Huppert forever!), YOUNG ADULT (Reitman + Cody) and COGAN'S TRADE (Dominik + Pitt).

If I had Captain America's shield, I would... use it to beat someone when they say Meryl Streep is overrated (believe me, that happens to me A LOT).

JOHN WILLIAMS will win the Oscar for... WAR HORSE in February but they really should've won for... HARRY POTTER AND THE SORCERER'S STONE, SCHINDLER'S LIST and STAR WARS. And that's all.

July 21, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJorge Rodrigues

My favorite movie of the year so far is... Bridesmaids or Heartbeats, I can't decide which.

Ugh. I just hate... boring "Oscar" movies. Beginners fits in that category for me.

I can't wait to see... The Artist. It's trailer is the second best of the year for me, behind The Tree of Life.

If I had Captain America's shield, I would... not know what to do with it. I'm not a comic book reader.

Honestly, except for maybe Meryl, which is too obvious, I can't find someone who fits the fifth sentence.

July 21, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterEvan

My favorite movie of the year so far is Black Swan (it was here in 2011)

Ugh. I just hate the success of Adam Sandler recently had with his lame films and that of the latest Pirates of still water...

I can't wait to see  The Dark Knight Rises...but that's still so long to wait so this year i will go with Adventures of Tin Tin and Dangerous Methods

If I had Captain America's shield, I would try windsurfing on it

Emmanuel Lubezki will win the Oscar for The Tree of Life in February but they really should've won for Children of Men

The last answer i didn't have much idea yet so I looked up other's comments and bravo! Pan's Labyrinth's cinematography triumph over Children of Men was one of the most wtf moments i had with Oscars...his work was kinda out of this world!...so, copy/paste

July 21, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterChamp

Favorite of the year: The Tree of Life

I hate: that the best movies hardly ever make any money.

I can't wait for: Carnage! I love all four of those actors, and trust Polanski with the material.

If I had his shield I would: sell it.

Leo DiCaprio will win for J. Edgar, but he should have won for Revolutionary Road, The Departed, or The Aviator.

July 22, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterBryan

Favourite film thus far- X-Men: First Class

I just hate that NOTHING BLOODY RELEASES IN INDIA (barring few "certified" blockbusters)

I can't wait to see Tree of Life, Midnight in Paris, Drive, Crazy Stupid Love, Super 8, Dangerous Method, Carnage, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Girl With Dragon Tattoo...basically all the really good films that will never release in India.

If I had Captain America's shield, I'd give it to my brother as a birthday gift. Then he can wreak havoc with it, whatever.

Leo will win Oscar for J.Edgar but he should have been nominated and won it for Titanic. There I said it! I love Jack!!
