Jake Gyllenhaal Introduces The Meryl Streep Tribute At Berlinale

Awww, this is sweet. Jake Gyllenhaal met Meryl through her son Hank (aka Henry Wolfe) when he was all of 13 and Jake has been intimiated by her ever since. Jake Gyllenhaal is on the jury this year that will decide the big winners at Berlinale but he also had the honor of introducing her for the her lifetime achievement Golden Bear.

I promised to quit talking about the Best Actress race (well, until we have to talk about the actual ceremony) but wanted you to enjoy this. Her Bafta speech is after the jump if you haven't seen it yet.

That moment when she loses her shoe is adorbs. Everyone knows Colin Firth is a Prince Charming but who ever thought of Meryl for Cinderella?

In Bafta she look at Viola and make her face like I'm sorry.
Then she give a kiss to viola.
It's the good competition best actress this year.

In my opinion, "The Iron Lady" fails at showing us that intimate approach that Streep is referring to in her Bafta speech. Besides the grocer's daughter syndrome, what else do we get?

So Meryl Streep also believes that people just don't understand the genius of The Iron Lady? I've just been blaming the director and writer.

I want Merly Streep's son. He's the best thing she's ever given the world and that includes both her Silkwood and Sophie's Choice performances.

Thank you for posting both of these!

Meryl is just so adorable and humble, she deserves every awards she gets (and a few she didn't get in the past), I love Jake's speech about his childhood around Meryl, and how good of a mother she is, and the whole Bafta win was epic, she was so gracious and Colin was a total gentleman, I could watch that part over and over.

Streep is quite simply the best actress in my eyes and I'm thankful for any chance I get to see new work from her, no matter all this Oscar nastiness this year, Streep is one of the greats (if not the greatest) actress in the world. Much admiration and love for her.

I was there yesterday in Berlin, and it was such a magical moment, seeing her in person for the first time! :-)) I admire her humility and generosity, you could really tell she was touched by the welcome and the honour. Jake Gyllenhaal is right: she is the best there is. ♥♥♥

Wow, Jake is looking splendid. BAFTA winner Jake should have gotten an Oscar. I hope they make a film together where they are in the same scene!
