Open Easter Thread
Happy holidays.
Any Easter movie plans? Will you go down with the Leo/Kate ship again (in three dimensions)? Will you seek out a limited release gem? Will you stay in and program your own mini-festival while dying easter eggs?
Please to share in the comments. My plans are still in flux but no one will see Titanic with me*. Boo. Why must my friends be haters? Titanic is great.
Pssst. Next week we'll celebrate the Titanic centennial somehow. This weekend we'll try and complete the new Oscar predictions. Stay tuned.

Is the 3D Titanic exactly the same version that was originally released? I am susprised that the did not throw in say 10 minutes of deleted scenes to add to the appeal of the mix.
I understand that there were many scenes related to the different passengers that ended up on the cutting room floor. Well, who knows...
There's nothing great in theatres (already seen 21 Jump Street), but this week I plan to
start the Meryl project. Weirdly, I've seen only one of her movies pre-Adaptation (Death Becomes Her) and nearly all of her movies since. So although I don't find her filmography wildly interesting, there are three movies I've always wanted to see: Manhattan, Silkwood, Postcards from the Edge. So that's my Easter weekend lineup.
Mike: Where shall I begin to recommend OTHER Streep films? If you like a good romance you should definitely see Out of Africa and The Bridges of Madison County. And Ironweed is a heart-wrenching drama... You seem to be a big fan. I hope you embrace her earlier films. :)
Mike -- those three are all great films -- maybe her best films -- so enjoy.
Marcos -- i think it's the same film. Huh, i hadn't even thought of that. I'm not sure Titanic should be any longer but there's certainly not enough Kathy Bates
And Kramer vs Kramer... The courtroom scene, people!
Boys, boys, boys - no mention of Sophie's Choice?
As part of my promise to buy a movie ticket to any film featuring both Kristin Wiig and Jon Hamm, I watched Friends with Kids. It had some nice moments, but was also too "knowing" at times, particularly in regards to Jennifer Westfeldt's character. It felt a little smug. Loved the dinner scene in Vermont though.
Also have plans to see Titanic 3D. That's probably it for me, but considering that these are only my second and third movies in theaters since Oscar night, I'm trying not to do too much too fast. I was so enjoying my post-Oscar movie vacation.
I saw Titanic on Wednesdy night. God, is that a great movie to see on the big screen. It got to me even though I have seen it muliple times before. Yes, I was a little misty eyed at the end.
My movie goal this weekend is to see "John Carter" before it disappears from our local theater. I have to; I read all the Mars books many years ago, and am obligated to support the movie, whether it's a mess or not.
Well, this is Passover weekend for me so I will be too busy eating fried matzoh to see any movies but I'll try to think about the seder scene from Crimes and Misdemeanors, which is the only seder scene I can think of.
Happy holidays!
I'm having the same problem in finding others to go and see Titanic with me, but this week's UK releases include North Sea Texas, which looks good, so it will probably be that. That and watching - at my mother's behest and for the first time ever - The Accidental Tourist, which I adored, and which made me sad for Geena Davis' career nose dive at the same time.
I finally watched A Mighty Heart and I honestly have no idea how Angelina was snubbed for it...I'm somewhat embarrassed for the Academy. You nominate her for Changeling, but not for that? Beautiful performance though.
Ben -- i love that movie too. Geena Davis was so enjoyable and it's always been so weird that her career died.
Philip -- I KNOW
I've been doing a repentance binge with a TV marathon about drugs and WWI movies (there's one movie that combines the two somewhat). Hopefully tomorrow I can sneak a Miyazaki movie in, since those flicks are as colourful as Easter eggs.
I'm taking Easter seriously this year. I watched Easter Parade tonight and I'm staying home tomorrow to submerge myself in the hippie religiosity of Godspell and Jesus Christ Superstar. I am of that age, you see ....
Well, and I'm actually staying home because I'm sick. If time permits, I'd also love to see King of Kings on TCM. Jeffrey Hunter was the sexiest Jesus ever.
Titanic on 3-D? I think that ship has sailed.
