You Link Me. You Really Link Me!

The Wrap Sally Field (Lincoln) is the talk of the Palm Springs festival with her lively speech.
The Playlist has a clip of the new Pixar short The Blue Umbrella but be forewarned. It's really not much bigger than a new film still it's so short.
EW in another break with tradition Seth MacFarlane rather than an AMPAS official will be announcing the Oscar nominations on Thursday morning with the requisite actress (this year: Emma Stone)

Letterbox'd Vadim Rizov isn't terribly impressed with Zero Dark Thirty
Pajiba has amusing standards when it comes to red band trailers. (Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters)
The Advocate promises that actress Busy Phillips is as awesome as she appears to be. (Michelle Williams has always had such good taste!)
Slate's movie club beginswith Dana Stevens, Wesley Morris, Stephanie Zachareck and Keith Phipps talking up Zero Dark Thirty and Django and moral ambiguity in film
The Carpetbagger talks to Baltasar Kormakur about The Deep

It turns out that there is a reason most directors don’t film shipwrecks in the open water”

Ha.

Smash!
29 DAYS UNTIL "SMASH" RETURNS!'

I'll be recapping as I did last year. I'm not crazy about this sneak peek which sadistically continues to pretend that Megan Hilty is NOT the true star of Smash (LIES. ALL LIES). She's not even #2 anymore according to this trailer which seems to suggest a season all about American Idols Jennifer Hudson  and Katharine McPhee. Meanwhile the cast album of "Bombshell", the stage musical within the tv musical series, will be out in mid February. If Hilty doesn't get the Marilyn solo numbers on the "cast album" than they shan't have my moneys!

Have you heard about the Oscars glitch? Apparently Sharen Davis was nominated for Django Unchained and it was revealed by accident in the oscars website. It was later taken down obviously.

ca -- that story has been grotesquely misreported. It's common practice to prepare webpages that might never be published so that you can have instantaneous publishing of the nominees. (I do it here myself in the years when I'm most prepared) My guess is they prepare up to 12 pages in each category so that they can use whichever five are nominated.

I felt bad for Sharen Davis but at the time the balloting wasn't even finished so it's an impossibility that she was already a nominee. They were just prepping.

That's a very interesting take on it. When I heard it I couldn't believe that such a mistake was made. I really hope she gets the nomination now. But you're most likely right.

J-Hud is one of the skinny bitches now! Loves it! Take that, Mr. Cowell!

I heard that Hudson is only supposed to be in four episodes, and they're still going to play up the Karen/Ivy rivalry in season 2. So don't fret about Dame Hilty just yet!

Maybe the biggest blunder of season 1 (besides the awful Bollywood number, the horror of Eli, Dev and Ivy, Julia's affair and her retarded son, ugh, I'm almost convincing myself not to watch this show again) was making us believe that in ANY universe Katharine McPhee is a greater BROADWAY talent than Megan Hilty is. That'll never be case, no matter how much that they try to character assassinate Ivy this season.

Now we just need Eric McCormack and Megan Mullally and then we can just switch the show to a musical version of Will and Grace!

Davis should have won for DREAMGIRLS.

@ Teddy - A Thousand and One Nights was pretty ridiculous but I LOVED IT. So much. But i agree with you about Julia's son. I sincerely thought he had some sort of disability but no. That was just "acting". Yikes.

But everybody knows that Megan Hilty is amazing so i think this is just NBC's way of downplaying that to lessen the "well, she's alright, i guess" ness of Katharine McPhee and to attract more viewers with the Jennifer Hudson casting. This is what i choose to believe because anything else is just blasphemy.

The track listing of the full Bombshell album has me excited though because there's several new songs! I sincerely hope they release some sort of special DVD of the fully staged show or something.

Teddy, I know people harp on about McPhee but I think that was the point initially , that she was not the 'greater' star throughout but there was something about her that undefinable that gave her a chance against a seasoned veteran like Hilty and then she would 'blossom'. I sort of just go with it now, because I think McPhee played that unseasoned part pretty well but her 'transformation' was just never as amazing as the show wanted us to believe.

That J-Hud song sounds perfect. If that's the only reason that they cast her, I'm ok with it.

It's going to be interesting to see who the new male cast members are, since most of the guys were fired.

It seems as if Field is really gunning for that third trophy. Just imagine if Maggie Smith had gained traction for Quartet-between Day-Lewis, Smith, de Niro, and Field all could win their third trophies in one night.

Goddang Jennifer Hudson can SING! That's all I'm gonna say.

The new trailer for Smash just makes me want a reboot of the show starring Jennifer Hudson in the Megan Hilty role and Fantasia Barrino in the Katherine McPhee role. I can dig the inclusion of Idols, so long as they pick the right ones. The musical could be Aretha: The Atlantic Years. It would be a battle of the Idol diva titans and it would be EPIC.

I'm so glad you mention SMASH because I'm all kind of exited about it right now. Mainly because of the Bombshell cast album! Wow! (You know in Spain we celebrate with presents The Wise Kings on January the 6th,instead of Christmas like you do, and I found out about this album that same day! What a gift). And one of the new ones (I believe is Hang the moon) is performed by Bernadette Peters playing Marilyn's mother!!!! I only hope it also includes as many Hilty versions as possible.

I don't know what kind of musical J Hudson will be playing (a black Marilyn? that would be something!) but I heard they're also doing "Liasons, liasons" which is obviously a musical version of Les Liasons dangerous and that sound wonderful too!. I wonder with all the movie to musical adaptations right now on Broadway how come nobody thought of that before?

I also hope they are not changing things this season for the sake of change. I found the ScarvesGate something pretty ridiculous to complain about. C'mon! you got a show with so many things to improve, like characters development and good scripts and you complain about stupid scarves??!!
I also fear the new showrunner will turn it into a new Gossip Girl type of show. Smash doesn't know what it is yet but teen soap it ain't.

I just can't stand mcphee (I'm not even saying karen, because if you read interviews with the 'actress' you see they're basically the same annoying human being).
