"Beetlelink! Beetlelink! Beetlelink!"

If you say it three times, a link roundup appears from the other side!

By now you've heard that Tim Burton and Michael Keaton are prepping a sequel to the 1988 comedy classic Beetlejuice, largely because Burton has long since run out of ideas and better a sequel than another remake, right?! If they name it "Beetlejuice 2" instead of "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Beetlejuice" I will be disappointed in their mundanity. I love that movie but honestly if this project does not star Winona Ryder I hope whoever deigns to see it will sit in the theater alone... *utterly* alone... because the rest of us should boycott. Noni was the best thing about the original aside from its playfully smart comic visuals including the Oscar winning makeup.

Now a few links...

E! Online reactions to the awful Parks and Recreations hiatus news
Women and Hollywood on male directors and depictions of female sexuality: Chile's awesome Gloria and France's buzzy Blue is the Warmest Color discussed
Film School Rejects on the short film Next Floor by Denis Villeneuve. You should see it. It's so good and Villeneuve is having a prolific "moment", what with the 1-2-3 punch of Incendies, Prisoners and Enemy.

Just like everybody else, I'm sick of Burton lazy choices in the last.....I can't even say how many years. But why don't we talk more about Big Eyes, his 2014 project that sounds many steps ahead of eyesorelandefaultconcept? Point 1: Amy Adams in a - juicy - leading role. Point 2: Johnny and Helena not involved. Point 3: a ten-million-dollars budget (a Tim Burton movie eligible for Indie Spirit Awards!).

I loved Frankenweenie, so maybe that's better than original projects to Burton

I am alone. I am utterly alone.

The promise of more Lydia Deetz is enough for me to set aside my usual Burton-related reservations.

Any greenlighting of a Burton picture after Planet of the Apes, Alice in Wonderland and Dark Shadows remains a dubious proposition. Stop the insanity!

Ugh he's going to CGI everything that was beautiful about Beetlejuice out of existence...has there ever been a director who needed physical effects more than Tim Burton? I mean the SECOND the man moves away from wiring and models, he is just lost to the world.

Please! A real comeback for Winona. She's been teasing us for way too long with the promise that she's back. Countless magazine covers, appearances and none of them not backed up by leading lady roles... She's proved she can act! I vehemently support both her academy award nominations.. So if Lydia comes back, I will be the first one to buy a ticket.

IMO, any Beetlejuice sequel has to have Keaton and Burton. Has to. Otherwise it's a complete non-starter. So if this news holds, and Burton and Keaton actually get this thing going, I'll be cautiously optimistic.

Once that's out of the way, IF Lydia returns, it has to be Noni. If Winona turns it down (and it really wouldn't surprise me if she did), then write Lydia out. Better no Lydia, than a non-Winona Lydia!

No, no, Noni was *not* the best thing about Beetlejuice!

She doesn't even make my top 5:

1) Michael Keaton
2) The production design
3) Catherine O'Hara
4) Sylvia Sidney
5) The cuteness of Alec & Geena

6) "Otho"
