Where My Girls At: Post-Halloween Edition

TWO DAYS LATER... I've sucked at Halloween lately which is why I'm having trouble letting it go this weekend. I mean I really have. It was once my favorite official holiday (I'm still petitioning for Oscar Night to be a Federally recognized holiday because, duh, that's the best one) but for the past couple of years I haven't dressed up or celebrated and just haven't been feeling it. So Imma have to start planning my costume for 2014 now just so there's no backing out. If you've ever lost the love for a holiday and reclaimed it, do help me out in the comments. What to do???

Since the clock falls back one hour tonight (daylight savings endeth) I'm using that an excuse to pretend time and calendares are completely fluid/meaningless and it's not too late to post these pictures of two of TFE's most favorite ladies/actresses/divas/witches Nicole Kidman and Angela Bassett doin' the holiday up... and Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy co-starring again post The Heat for a little trick-or-treating

God bless social media and the ability of superstars (i.e. their assistants) to pretend they're just like us 24/7 now with the tweeting and the facebooking.  (Our other favorite actresses did not share their costumes online though Julianne Moore dressed up her dogs as Princess Leia and a hot dog. Finally, Mia Farrow changed her twitter avatar to a Rosemary Woodhouse photo for that night only and thus won the internet.)

As for winning Halloween costume-wise, now that I've had days to process, I have to give the award to non-actresses (gulp) Marquesa partners Keren Craig & Georgina Chapman who had the awesome good sense to go as two sets of legendary actresses for Halloween: doing Dynasty's warring bitches Krystal & Alexis and then Hitchcock Heroines Tippi Hedren & Janet Leigh (photos via The Cut)!

Okay NOW I am done with Halloween.
(Except for this giant bowl of candy)

Did you see January Jones dressed up as Betty Draper (complete with theatrically pained expression) to take her little one trick-or-treating? It was cute. People claim she's as cold as her character, but I think she's probably just shy.

Nicole is either a ringmaster or a lion tamer. And Angela is either Foxy Brown or Cleopatra Jones.

Nathaniel: I lost the love of Christmas in my mid-teens and have never regained it. (Up until then I adooooored it!) So I'm afraid I don't have any suggestions for how you could get back into Halloween. I think Halloween is more of a big deal in the US than the UK (where I am). But I must say, what helps me get through these things is good food. If there's good food around (and good friends), anything is better!

Even Oscar night, which I love like nothing else, is made immeasurably better by the hot cross buns I eat while watching it every year!

Nicole is serving up some Harold Zidler realness. yeeesss!

Anyways, i'm 100% on board with Krystle and Alexis winning Halloween.

Edward has it correct. Good food and good company is all you need to reclaim the love for any holiday. For example my parents have stopped the past couple years doing anything for Thanksgiving so I've been lucky to have been able to get together with friends and make the holiday our own. Last year we made duck instead of turkey (blasphemy!).

For Halloween, you just need to dress up. Even if there's no party or friends involved, I feel dressing up and watching Halloween-appropriate films would be enough.

Angela has had really bad plastic surgery. No wonder her career is in the
toilet.

Suzanne, I was dyyyying at the pictures of January dressed as Betty. So meta and hilarious. I can't believe people had the nerve to critique her for being "lazy." I thought it was brilliant.

I feel like I want Angela Bassett to be a better actress than she has been (or than she's had the opportunity to be)… if it wasn't for What's Love Got To Do With It, I'd be convinced that she can't play a rounded 'person'… she certainly can't create a full-bodied character from a badly-written script… I often wonder how she would have fared in Monster's Ball if her principles hadn't dictated her decision.

Kermit T. Frog-

I will just assume you have not seen Kathryn Bigelow's Strange Days because her and Ralph Fiennes are definitely three-dimensional kickass characters.

And as for La Bassett having work done, to me she looks completely fine in AHS: Coven. That photo is grainy as hell too.

I feel like I'm blind to any plastic surgery snark. Like I am beginning to hear it with Sandra Bullock and Amy Adams and even if they did, I don't find it the least bit noticeable or distracting.
