Wasn't his film debut in that Janet Jackson video? He's so talented. He should have had better roles.
I hope his absence from the movies has been a conscious, intentional step out of the limelight, even if realistically and statistically speaking, it's more likely that Hollywood didn't know what to do with a black man who had a very visibly African name and appearance.
LOL
By that law, Gerard Butler and Taylor Lautner will both have eight Oscar nominations now. And I believe no one will be able to live with that.
OK, maybe one. Taylor Swift.
Is that a still from "Love Will Never Do"? I love it. I was surprised how much I didn't love him in Baggage Claim.
For me He was also the "best in show" in Spielberg's AMISTAD
Best pecs + Best abs + Best Lips + Best Shoulders + Best Biceps...
Djimon Hounsou is HOT. That's all.
All these underutilized actors...ugh!! ::bangs head:: Cue the song, "I Want To Be A Casting Director".
Is it weird that I love him equally, yet for totally different reasons, in the "Love Will Never Do (Without You)" video and "In America"? God he was so good in that film - so glad he was nominated.
Is it me or did he keep out worthier nominees in 03 and 06.
@Watts - like who? I thought he was really fantastic in In America. (Haven't seen Blood Diamond so can't comment on that.)
Yeah, I remember him fondly because of the Janet Jackson video, and was elated to see him get an Oscar nomination for "In America." When he got another one for "Blood Diamond" I was surprised, because of the fact that African-American actors don't normally get a second one, unless you're one of the big headlining stars (Denzel Washington, Will Smith, Morgan Freeman).
Thanks for this little blurb about him!
@jtagliere Yeah, he was a bit forgettable in "Baggage Claim" but then again, all of the guys were. The best thing about that film was the scene-stealing Jill Scott & Adam Brody!
