The Color Purple
A reminder that tomorrow night The Color Purple (1985) will be the focus of "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" - three entries are already in from The Pretentious Know it All who marvels at the central trio of actressing and I Want to Believe who loves its bookends and emotional payoffs, and The Film's The Thing who thrills to a Whoopi Goldberg gesture. Check those out!

What a coincidence. Yesterday I spent the day watching black-actress vehicles: "Sounder," "The Color Purple," and "What's Love Got To Do with It," and I thought what extraordinary performances by black actresses all of those films contained, and all of them represented missed opportunities Oscar forewent to award them and make history. I still am kind of bummed out that they made history with Halle Berry because I don't think her performance to be as astounding or nearly moving as Tyson's, Goldberg's, or Bassett's (although it's hard to argue against a Holly Hunter win in 1993). And I won't even get into Viola getting robbed for "The Help."
Anyway, that's what's on my mind. Hope Hollywood gives these amazing actresses at least one more time to shine the way they did.
Anyone know if it's rentable/streaming online anywhere?

God, how I love this film! It moves me to my soul. I don't necessarily think it's the "best" movie of all time, but it is and always will be my FAVORITE! LOVE!
BVR, I know I'm a day late and a dollar short, but I just noticed your post from yesterday and it made me think.
What about Alfre Woodard? I think she should be included on you list. One of my favorite actors of all time.
