"That was a tough summer for me and Modine"

GEENA DAVIS. God, we haven't seen her in way too long. Here she is poking fun of her movie past (Yes, you were Thelma!) and a fun shout out to Matthew Modine, too.

Omg how has no one commented on this?? This is AMAZING.
Davis is an irrelevancy without the fond memories. Her Oscar could have gone to Michelle Pfeiffer or Sigourney Weaver. EARTH GIRLS ARE EASY and THE LONG KISS GOODNIGHT makeup some of the highlights of her seemingly brief filmography.
@3rtful--Them's fightin' words! Even if you're not a fan of her acting, she's done a phenomenal job as an advocate for women's representation in media. That said, hello, I would not trade her Thelma for the world.
Didn't realize how much I missed her... I wonder if she'll ever come back.
3rtful -- do you have fond feelings for ANYONE? There is plenty to be fond of from Geena's career from the silly fun of Earth Girls through the peaks of Thelma in A League of Her Own ;) and the cool genre flicks like The Fly. She was great in her Oscar winning role too (albeit maybe not the performance I would have handed the Oscar to that year.)
Besides William Tell, what's the reference to the apple on the mannequin's head? Or is that the joke?
I've forgotten how much I love her voice. Find that Basic Cable Comedy-Drama STAT, Geena!!!
Do you count? I told you recently that I am a now lifelong devotee to Isabelle Huppert. My interest in foreign language cinema has been stuck on Pedro Almodovar and Yorgos Lanthimos but Huppert is my entry way into titles I'd never see if she weren't in them. In that respect she's the foreign language equivalent to Nicole Kidman. An entry way to daring and unusual titles that are best aided by an actress you trust.
I think some people have a fondness for Genna especially if you were around 14 - 16 and saw her and Sarandon create two wonderfully sympathetic real women in T and L,she was ace also in The Fly and Speechless,i would have hanbded Susan the oscar in 91 and Weaver hers in supporting in 88,plus T and L was made in a time were one of the leads was deemed supporting, thanks the heavens for that!!!
Nathaniel: All those movies you mentioned, plus Beetlejuice! That movie is SO big for me. And I just love her small part in Tootsie. But she really kind of dropped out after Cutthroat Island. It's a pity.
The Long Kiss Goodnight is a suprisingly GOOD action flick!
I miss seeing Geena in things. The last major roles I remember for her have been that President TV series as well as some comedy sitcom she had a couple of years back?
@TB, I didn't know she was an advocate! Funny how her minor role in Lake Bell's "In a World..." kinda plays with that.
