They Live By Night Bilge Ebiri offers up a thoughtful defense of Interstellar and its portrait of restless Coop and the double edged sword of survival instincts
Reductress Brilliant send-up of Aaron Sorkin's recent sexist comments. These quotes are satiric but he has said that actresses aren't as good as actors so therefore he is MUCH stupider than his screenplays imply.

Critics Top 10 has been compiling list. It's fascinating to see how many lists each film tops no matter what run they occupy in the top 50. They'll have a tough road to a nomination given that AMPAS has been stingy with Marvel Studios films in this category unless Iron Man is around. But if they get nominated I'll celebrate even though this reel isn't particularly informative. So much destruction. But I love this movie.

Totally agree with Kenneth in the 212-- Lisa Kudrow in The Comeback was *amazing.* I'd love to hear TFE's take on the amazing second season.

I'm sort of shocked that John Hurt hadn't already been honored, he's been an esteemed actor for decades. Anyway that's great for him and Kristen Scott Thomas and of course Dame Joan Collins!

Also the wonderfully talented Emily Watson made the list as well so good news all around.

Lisa Kudrow deserves an Emmy so much , her work on the Comeback was phenomenal

"EVERYONE wants an Emmy for Lisa Kudrow for Season 2 of The Comeback."

There. I fixed it for you.

Also if y'all need your Matthew Goode fix, then more reason to watch The Good Wife. Just saying.

Wow. So now I'm wondering if Allison Janney just managed to turn her CJ into magic despite Sorkin...

Yeah, more Comeback fans!! I adored this new season -- Lisa Kudrow really has amazing range.

I want to believe there is a contextual thing missing with the Sorkin quotes. West Wing, for example, had many strong, articulate female characters (Janney, Channing, Tomlin, Joosten, Matlin, Moloney and Proctor among others) whom I never felt the actresses were struggling to produce. Sports night had Huffman holding her own and leading the pack as well. It would be interesting to know if there was one particular actress whom he worked with post WW who pushed him into this hole (Chenowith? They did date.). I want to know more about where these came from before I condemn him to more than just being stupid about how he could be misquoted.

Mr. Sorkin's, it's quite the opposite!

Lisa Kudrow created in Valerie Cherish an iconic character that will be mentioned among the greats for years to come. The second season of The Comeback offered her the opportunity to explore her full range, from very truthful and dramatic to broad and comedic. I can't think of a role that rangy. The show is one of my favorite artistic events I've experienced in my whole life.

Dame Kristin Scott Thomas !! Delighted to see her honoured, and lovely to see Sir John Hurt, Emily Watson and James Cordon getting honours as well. KST may not have an Oscar but being a Dame is perhaps an even better prize.

Ryan T. - totally agree with you, Matthew Goode is not under appreciated by fans of The Good Wife.

Eventually EVERYONE in the UK will be knighted.

Unless you aren't a rightwing conservative monarchist /royalist that is.

You gotta love Maggie Thatcher and the Queen before you get one.

Actually "Edge of Tomorrow" is the highest rated film at #23 with no number one placements. It was on 75 lists.

That Sorkin article is a joke (literally). Per the first comment on that 'article, "Reductress is advertised as a feminist The Onion. This article is a parody."

He's wrote plenty of great female parts. Nathaniel just doesn't like the dude I guess.

December 31, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterAnonny

But Anonny, he did say some sexist stuff (something along the vein of male parts are more difficult) recently, hence, the satirical article. I also wonder why he made those comments (and why Newsroom has been under heavy criticism of sexism and misogyny) considering I agree completely with Henry above.
