Alan Cumming & James Franco @ Broadway Bares

I'm getting a late start this morning after the midnight show of Broadway Bares. For those who aren't aware it's a one night only charity event each year in Manhattan where Broadway dancers striptease en masse in huge often silly choreographed themed spectacle numbers. This year's theme was "Rock Hard" so there was rock heavy versions of pop songs as well as classic rock numbers. Throughout the night there are little interlude skits with celebrity guest stars. In this case they were all trying to get past a doorwoman when their names weren't on the list. Alan Cumming, adorable with his hair in zulu knots, sailed right in with two boytoys in his hands whose names he kept getting comically mixed up. So he had to take matters (literally) into his hand to figure out who was who. But Broadway's Rocky (Andy Karl) didn't have it as easy.

-But you let Alan Cumming in!"
-Win a Tony and we'll talk"

The final interlude skit was James Franco. He bragged to the doorwoman 'But I take shirtless selfies. I have 2 million followers.' Enter Bianca Del Rio (to thunderous non-stop applause) who proceeded to insult him. The mini-skit ended with Bianca rubber-gloving her hand...

You can guess what happened next [NSFW]

I'm not one of these people who watches things through my phone (wrong generation for that). I like to use my actual eyes so I didn't take any photos.

At least not until the "rotation" the famous tipping frenzy when the entire cast lines up for the huge ballroom of people to rush the stage and shove dollars down their undies. But it's all for a good cause.

Have you ever been? It's silly trashy fun and raises lots of money for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS each year.

You can see professional photos of a few of the numbers at Broadway World and probably around the web by the end of the day today. Here's Alan Cumming's sole tweet from last night.

I haven't been to this in years and years but the first time I went it was movie-themed. No such luck this year. Maybe for its 25th anniversary next year?

Thank you for the Franco cake shot. Though you did not take the picture you were willing to share the good news.

Ew, no one wants to see James Franco's ass... :|

June 23, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterPhilip H.

Philip H. - But at the same time we'd all welcome Bianca del Rio making an ass out of James Franco. What a conundrum.

June 23, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterSanty C.

Philip H. you speak for yourself. Franco's plump ass is more appealing than his adorable face.

I want to be Alan Cumming SO. BAD.

I had a ton of fun at Broadway Bares the last (and sadly only) time I went.

@ Nat

I have followed your blog probably a year after you began it, and I was captured by its intelligent approach to movies... last year ( you may or may not remember)I decided to not continue your blog giving for my reason another blogger's blithering lectures.

I did stay away totally for about a year ... came back fairly recently and began reading the present blogs and some of the fairly recent past .. I now find you bloggers ( for the most part ) attacking every actress and ( actor ) for their real life and not their reel life ..

Also, I am not gay... however I knew from the start that this blog was gay driven ... BIG DEAL ... I love movies and the people who make them ... none of us know these so called celebrities or who they are in every day life...

I happen to live in Pebble Beach, Ca. ...so I have had the opportunity and privilege to have gone to many events, dinners and charity events where stars have been present ... and because of some of our friends have met these people ( stars ) and they are just like we are ... I have enjoyed some and not so much others...

Also, Some bloggers are getting too sexual in their opinions and I don't think you want to lose your straight contingency b/c of one or two jerks who are glued to their computers 24/7 and have nothing to do but gripe or complain about someone!!!~

I finally have this off my chest and hope to continue with your blog for the remainder of YOUR term..

A very true movie fan... Thanks for listening.

By the way, I do like the pictures on this particular blog

I swear Franco is going to be sucking dick in a movie any time soon...oh wait...he already did. ;)

June 23, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterSad man

OMG!! my finger went totally out of control... I apologize to everyone!!!!!

June 23, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterrick

rick -- i cleaned up the duplicates. it happens ;) as for losing straight readers... i assume everyone is grown up enough that they can skip the content that is too gay for them. But as for comments. I understand your frustration but I don't have time nor the desire to police every comment. it's best to just ignore people who aggravate you.

June 23, 2014 | Registered CommenterNATHANIEL R

Franco's ass is kind of...untoned. No bubble butt there.

June 23, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterKate

Thanks for somewhat answering me

My real need is to discuss stars and their roles not who they are in their daily lives

I think you are choosing to ignore this agitation If so, then i
just need to go to a more legitimate blog

if you need to hear 3rtful,s bull, then I am definitely in a blog that has descended to junk!

June 23, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterRick

I stumbled into the first Broadway Bares which had no advertising, notice or whatever. Just Jerry Mitchell and friends doing a fun night to raise a little cash for a worthy cause. Only a couple of years later it was Club USA, 2 shows, William Ivey Long costumes and thousands of screaming girls.

The first was at Splash back before the showers and three quarter thrust stage were removed. 9 dancers from (gulp) Cats, Grand Hotel....I think there was a guy from Les Miz. Basically the same strip tease Splash usually offered with better dancing and better costumes and an excuse to stuff a new crotch after the rotation we were used too. And to feel we were doing something good with our Sunday night and dollars.

June 23, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterHenry

@Rick: So sensitive. All of this because of some ass pics? Are you sure you're not gay?

June 23, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterSad man

Rick -- i think you'll find few blogs that delve as much into actors and their roles than here. (I'm not sure where you're getting this thing that we're talking about actor's personal lives a lot? This is not a gossip blog) I don't need to hear *anyone's* "bull" ... but if i tried to police every comment and save everyone from possible offense than I would have no time to produce actual content, which is what I'm hear to do and why people come to the blog. I bust my ass for readers.

if you think the smackdowns and the reviews and the old hollywood articles and the podcasts and "best shot" and such are "junk" I really can't help you. It'd be great if there weren't toxic comments on occasion but it is what it is. I can ask people politely to stop (which I have done many times) and delete really inflammatory comments (which I have done every once in awhile and which I will probably have to do again - sigh) or i can give up some of the content to police comments hourly. I'm guessing most readers would not like that tradeoff.

"... a more legitimate blog..."

Legitimized by the International Blog Council?

@ Sad man

You have to be pretty stupid to realize ( afetr reading ALL my comments ) that this has anything to do with this particular blog ... it is just a comment I needed to make... so any one blog would do...

this is why it has taken the gay/lesbian world so long to get where they almost are.. and no, I am definitely not gay ...but have friends that have been friends for years ( and are gay ) and think that some of this crap from guys like 3artful are destroying your cause..

But keep him and love him ... he now is an ass kisser b/c he has had some instant positive
reinforcement....

I have never listened to a podcast until today when I listened to the one w/ Streep's birthday framed around the rest of the topics... it really was a gay group talking and giggling like a bunch of sissies.

Now, I hope I have out 3/arted ... 3/art
this blog sets yourselves back at least 10years

As much as I do not care for Awards Daily... it at least is not pretentious .. iti is blunt and to the point like it or not but not hypocritical

@Paul Outlaw ... you have just "legitimized" my point...

@ nat
You know in the past I have lauded you ... you work hard, but maybe you really do need to get a job and not beg for donations.. you really do not have a great amount of followers....

the rest of you... write what you will about my comments ... as I now signoff

@3rtful .. you have angered me, made me laugh and have ingratiated me ... but you really do need to get a life

You make absolutely no sense. I don't know what crawled up your ass, but you're making it stink in here.

"I have never listened to a podcast until today when I listened to the one w/ Streep's birthday framed around the rest of the topics... it really was a gay group talking and giggling like a bunch of sissies."

I'm not speaking for anyone else, but, in my opinion, you can go fuck yourself. And please seek help and resolve your gay issues.

Rick,

Based on your comments in the thread you probably will never see my note, but I hope you come back to the site and enjoy the treasure box that it is; full of knowledge, intelligent articles, great podcasts and the sharing among others who enjoy movies as much as I do.

Nothing is perfect Rick, not TFE, not Awards Daily, not Gold Derby, not AMPAS, not anything!!

But something brought you back after a years absence. Human nature does not change in a year, and I know you know this. So what I think brought you back for a sneak peek is the passion this site has for everything about movies. It is this passion that fuels so many of the articles, podcasts, and the comments. Passion can be conveyed in a positive way, but also can ignite into strong comments and opinions that not everyone will agree with or worse case, take personally. But life is not worth it if it were not for passion, otherwise we would be all mindless heartless drones (who wants that). I relish in the different opinions I read each day. Some are enlightening and make me think or re-think my opinions. Some teach me things I did not know. Some I don't agree with. And yes, some are written in a heat of passion, that can anger me at the underlining tone.

But the bottom line is I enjoy all of them. That is what makes the world go round, and TFE go around. I want to hear different opinions and different thought processes, and be with others who are passionate in our love of movies and other areas of entertainment.

Rick, nothing will ever change if you do not participate. Leaving the site is a loss for the group, not a win for you. If you want to make a difference or impact a change you have to participate, especially if you do not see eye to eye on things. Possibly your thoughts and opinions will create a sub-conscious uncoupling of some of the things you do not enjoy on the site. But doing nothing at all, will never change a thing.

Enjoy life's diversity and remember what Aunte Mame said....."Life is a banquet, but most poor suckers are starving to death...." (may not have this exactly right)...... come back and dine....

Can't people stop feeding the egotistical trolls? You want to leave? Leave. You don't like this or that person? Skip their posts. You dislike gay content? Skip the damn Broadway Bares blog entry (duh!). No need to turn the comment section into an episode of Laguna Beach.

June 24, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterCarmen Sandiego

OMG.I am so using that blurb whenever I get around to advertising the podcast!

giggling like a bunch of sissies

June 24, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterNATHANIEL R

What the heck just happened? Anyways, Nat, I hope the mean comments by Rick doesn't bother you. Your blog has always been a fun mixture of classy and trashy (?) that there is simply no needs to change. And to think that this is neither one of the "gayest" post or 3rtful's worst comment.

June 24, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterkin

I blame Franco.

June 24, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterGlenn

So strange! Someone's caretaker wasn't monitoring his internet use closely enough.

June 24, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterBD

Nathaniel, would it annoy you if I used this time to brag about how I spent the entire weekend sharing a stage and hobnobbing with James Earl Jones, Laura Benanti, Cheyenne Jackson, Debbie Allen, and Scott Bakula (with the photographic evidence to prove it)? It seemed like the proper post to do that. :-)
