Rep. Steve Cohen (D-TN) honored Kirk Douglas on the floor for his 99th birthday! It's always shocking when someone in Congress does something cool but apparently this Cohen fellow is a good guy with a strong civil rights record so there you go. But mentioning a screening of Trumbo in DC? That movie's reach has been such a surprise this month.

It seems reasonable to me that WB wouldn't know what they had in Creed. It's crowd-pleasing, sure, but Jurassic World is crowd-pleasing too, for some reason, and so was the last Rocky movie - doesn't make them contenders. I think they were just happy to have a good movie, and couldn't have foreseen it's awards potential until critics and "The Internet" spelled it out for them.
Also, I never really care about the critics awards apart from the big 3, but this year I find myself clicking the link, scrolling down to best supporting actress, and making sure it doesn't say Carol or The Danish Girl. So far so good.
