Damaged Twinsies
Don't be alarmed but this is what The Joker will look like in that Batman villain spinoff movie Suicide Squad (2016). It's surely daunting to follow Heath Ledger into this role but perhaps Jared Leto's very own Supporting Actor Oscar took some of the fear out of it for Jared Leto. At the very least it's wise that they're reinterpreting it visually to a considerable degree because any sign of trying to bottle that same lightning again would been deeply unfortunate. But that's all I have to say because the tweet I've included after the jump is the best possible response imaginable.
The Tweet would not embed for some reason but if you want to RT the original it's here. Here's a screen cap...

I don't know if "damaged" is the best summary. "Chemical vat" might have been the better choice, unless they're really going to not go there again.
I love this! Going in a complete different direction than what Heath did.
Nat: Plus, they have TWO laughing tattoos but NOT one having to do with Batman? I'm assuming that one on the left side of his chest has to do with Harley, so get rid of the laughing tattoo on his chest and replace it with the head of a dead Bat.
I kinda like this version of the Joker too. Uber hipster weirdo sounds intriguing...
As for Batman, is it just me or does it appear that they've used an image of Ben Affleck circa 2005 rather than a current one?
@Evan, that's like Ben Affleck circa *1995*, me thinks.
My gut reaction was that this looks horrible. This is like the Joker as imagined by Hot Topics at the mall. It just seems like it's trying SO hard. I am not a comics fanboy and hardly get bent out of shape about these things, but I do have an affinity for the Batman characters and have liked several of the films (Burton and Nolan). The one purple glove is odd. Is he washing dishes later?
Also, I know Leto is an Oscar winner, but I've found him to be actively bad in several films and only truly impressive to me on one occasion (which is the film he won the Oscar for). I hope he surprises me, but he's really not my favorite actor.
I have no interest in this project. I get taking the character in a different direction.....I hope it works.
Glad they're going in a different direction, that's the only way to really do it.
At first I was like "really? damage tattooed on his forehead?" but it's actually a funny, tongue-in-cheek look at the Joker, which is pretty much what he is. If he's that kooky then it should be fun.
Philip H.: I'd want to buy the "tongue-in-cheek" excuse, but think about what the tattoo on the left side of his chest probably means.
Volvagia-- "tattoo on the left side of his chest probably means". Which lrft? His or ours looking at the photo? Skulls or ha ha ha etc.,
Henry: The skull.
