For Amélie, Silence is Golden

For The Lusty Month of May, we're looking at sex scene each night. Here's Denny...

Our favorite little Parisian pixie, Amélie Poulain, lives a quiet life. She amuses herself by posing silly questions...such as: How many couples are having sex at this very moment?

Quinze

...and then providing the answers to no one in particular.

But Amélie herself doesn't have much sex. She's tried the whole boyfriend thing and... well...

Oh, honey. We've all been there. He's up there, loudly moaning and pounding away, clearly having the time of his life, and you're down there, unable to keep the smirk off your face because of how ridiculous he looks and/or sounds. It happens to the best of us, ma chérie!

But when you find the right person, everything else just fades away. You can't hear or see anything else. Just this perfect being standing in front of you. The anticipation creeps unbearably high, but you hold back... perhaps you're unsure of just how to proceed, perhaps you can't quite believe this is real, that the man of your dreams is standing in front of you in your apartment, just where you were imagining he would be not five minutes ago. So what do you do?

You carefully, quietly, choose the perfect places to plant your lips, and kiss him there. Softly. Sensually. And then have him do the same to you. Savor every moment - you only get one first kiss.

You'll get to the sex eventually. But in the moment, this is much more intimate, much more romantic, much sexier. And totally worth the wait.

Your cat may not like it, but hey, you can't have everything.

"C'est vous ça?" Oh how I love Nino's line reading in his first scene.

Amélie, on the other hand, made me so-o-o uncomfortable during her sex scene, probably because it seemed not at all enjoyable.

I remember being in total heaven for about the first half of Amelie and then being like okay okay calm down (I ended up positive but not in love) but i remember this moment and love this post. XOXO

Nathaniel, I think that's part of why I love this scene so much: The rest of the film is so busy and full of energy and movement and noise, and this moment is so quiet and still. Really lets us be in the moment with the characters and feel what they're feeling. It's just perfect.
