"Demolition" looks so different in style and tone from "Dallas Buyers Club" and "Wild." Those were both wonderfully idiosyncratic movies, and this one looks kind of broad. (I'm also one of those few people who has foolishly been clinging since 2001 to the idea that Naomi Watts might wow us again. I hope she gets juicy stuff to play with here.)
What on earth is that "Demolition" trailer? I'm calling it "Bronze Linings Playbook" until further notice. I also hope the entire movie is a series of letters to a vending machine company, just a constant framing device.

I don't want to see Black Mass - I was tired of Depp 20 years ago, and I'm offended that they cut the only female part from the movie - so I'm gonna choose to believe it's not an Oscar contender and skip it.
Oh my it's like every 60's show has to take a hit this year! Donna Douglas, Yvonne Craig, Melody Patterson. Dean Jones, Leonard Nimoy, Suzanne Crough, Patrick Macnee, Grace Lee Whitney, Betsy Palmer and now Martin Milner and Judy Carne. Make it stop!!

The Demolition trailer left a bad taste in my mouth. The treatment of the wife character seemed bizarre and awful. Also when did it move to April, 2016?? I guess they don't expect any awards prospects.
I don't want to see "Black Mass" either... and "Magic Mike: The Musical" seems like a natural fit with Vegas glitz.
Not only is Depp joking about eating his pets, he is trying to justify himself for breaking essential laws that forbid ANYBODY from bringing animals into a country without quarantine procedures. You are not above the law, Johnny, and you can't potentially bring diseases into another country just so you and Amber can have your lovable pooches with you at all times.
Anytime Will Smith replaces someone on a project you pretty much know there is nothing there but money.
Suzanne - Yes to Ralph Fiennes, a Guardian review of "A Bigger Splash" was very appreciative of the film and his performance.
This suggests to me a Karmic re-balance of last years snubs could happen.
1. Ralph Fiennes gets Oscar nomination (or at least some Bafta/Golden Glove love) to make up for no nominations of GBH.
2. Emily Blunt gets nomination for Sicario and Johnny Depp doesn't get one for "Black Mass".
Divine Retribution anyone?
Suffragette feeling "by the numbers"? That's not good, but not unexpected. I was skeptical of Sarah Gavron, I was skeptical of Carey Mulligan as a hard edged rabble rouser, I was skeptical of Abi "The Iron Lady" Morgan on the writing duties and I was skeptical of the primarily grey colour palate the two trailers showed off. Do I wish it were great? Yes. (D and W: Andrea Arnold, Lead Actress: Katie Jarvis would be a HUGE start.) But we shouldn't necessarily be TOO surprised with that perfect storm of questionable talent fusing together creating a mediocrity.
LadyEdith: How bout neither getting a nomination? Seriously, Black Mass sounds so bland and normal (checklist crime bio cinema) and Sicario has always sounded conceptually suspicious for an Oscar draw 2015 movie, especially in a climate reacting to stuff like Ferguson.
Suzanne and Edith - Re: Fiennes, Hollywood Reporter says "A Bigger Splash" isn't getting a US release until May 2016. I don't want to wait!
John Horn from The Frame uploaded several good audio dispatches from Telluride--one on ones with Danny Boyle, Rooney Mara, Idris Elba, Meryl Streep, among others. Very thoughtful, film/craft centric, longer- than-the-standard-5-minutes most journalists get. Thought others here might be interested. Would love to see Nathaniel get that kind of access because he always asks great questions too.
So Michael Keaton has his name practically engraved on a make-up Oscar and Ralph has his next movie delayed until next spring? The injustice! Although I suppose co starring with Swinton in 3 consecutive films is better than an Oscar.

Suzanne - apparently the cast had such a great time they might do something together again, the director hinted at a remake of "Suspiria". At some point Fiennes will get the overdue recognition he deserves, in the meantime interesting projects with Swinton aren't a bad consolation.
