Thoughts I Had... whilst gazing at Gwyneth Paltrow's new photo shoot

Gwyneth Paltrow's new photo shoot for Harper's Bazaar...

• Should you really wear stilettos on newly mopped floors?

• I am fond of this aisle in grocery stores.

• Bill from Freaks & Geeks  popped into my head when I looked at the mopper... which was quite a while after gazing at Gwynnie.

• Remember that scene in Crazy Ex Girlfriend when Rebecca tries to hide inside the refrigerated goods door? LOL. October 21st and season 2 can't come soon enough.

• Sudden craving for Golden Grahams (not pictured)

• Are you a Lucky Charms or a Froot Loops person? Gwynnie's loaded up both on her cart but I bet she's never tried either in her life. Are they gluten free?

• Don't scan her -- you can't afford her

• Did that gawking lady drag her husband to see I'll See You In My Dreams?

• (Cute that all the magazines on the rack are old Gwyneth Bazaar covers)

• Gwyneth should make some movies again because it's stupid to be famous and talented and not use it for good.

"Look how sexy I am...." Wow... I don't care. You're not Scar-Jo 3:16 and frankly, I don't give a fuck!

Thoughts I had:

- Madonna.

- Gwynnie was recently featured in an ad campaign for Swiss watches where she actually looked more like a human woman thanks to restrained facial retouching. I saw the ad in Paris and wonder if it ever appeared like that in the U.S.

- Madonna.

- The photographer, Alexi Lubomirski, is hot. And he's taken some funny photos of Ewan McGregor.

- MADONNA.

This photo shoot is straight up ridiculous.
That old lady is me right now LOL
And yeah she needs to make movies and get good roles!

October 11, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterCraver

I wish she was still making good movies! Shakespeare to Ripley to Tenenbaums is an outstanding run.

October 11, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterMike in Canada

Ok thank you Paul cause I just googled the photographer and turns out he is a REAL LIFE PRINCE FROM POLAND! Wow that's more interesting than this photo op.

Did she stop caring about acting after Proof? Shame, cause she can be such an interesting actor. If she wanted the roles, I think she could find them (she's still a very famous and beautiful celebrity). Alas, I just don't think she cares anymore.

October 11, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterAaron

She's 44 with two kids, so good for her, I guess. But for a person who is commonly perceived as being out of touch with her audience, this photo shoot doesn't accomplish much.

Venom?

October 11, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterBrevity

She's a publicity whore and a lousy actress that has an Oscar that others should have received

October 11, 2016 | Unregistered Commenterrick

I agree with the other Rick!

October 11, 2016 | Unregistered Commenterrick gould

I just want her to get one more Oscar nom, lead or supporting! It's like a strange uncured longing in my soul. Even Helen Hunt returned (and in fine form)!

October 11, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterPhilip H.

@Philip H

Pal is the lone BA winner from the 90's without a sophomore nomination.

October 11, 2016 | Unregistered Commenter/3rtful

Blanchett IS robbed by Missy Outta-Touch-Gwhiney in 1998! Period. I blamed Weinstein super aggressive campaign and shame on the voters to fall right into it!

If not the Queen, then Montenegro shld b the one crown..

Oscar voters quickly wised up (abet too late) and never fall for this phony loony again

October 11, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterClaran

Pal's performance in Royal has always been the smoking gun for me to suggest she has more talent than given credit for. She has her supporters who overrated her craft. Although, I disagree with her Oscar win. I don't disagree with her being an Oscar winner.

If you're curious how a generally speaking un-PC white starlet hater is defending the easy target Paltrow is because the lack of industry support leaves her as merely an actress. Who can be judged squarely on what she does instead of collecting accolades based solely on popularity politics and forcing the public to accept her as major movie star or Hollywood royalty because her parents are in the business too.

People hate her for Blanchett. And I attempted to like her as a person but she shaded Sandra Bullock after her Blind Side win on Letterman. So my semi respect for her is honed on her slight and specific gifts as an actress. I can be fair when said actress isn't an unimpeachable industry darling/juggernaut.

GWYNNIE, WE MISS YOU! COME BACK TO US PLEASE!

Only, don't bring whoever touched up these photos with you. You look BARELY like yourself in them.

I keep waiting for an announcement that she's going to be on FEUD, since Ryan Murphy is the only person who has gotten her to act in recent years, (and honestly, she was kinda great on Glee) but who could she possibly play at this point?

October 11, 2016 | Unregistered Commenterdenny

She still deserved her Oscar. Get over it.

October 11, 2016 | Unregistered Commentercal roth

What is the point? She looks good in her 40's and wants everyone to know it. She has very little to do with acting now. The messaging is also terrible for young girls. You can be a piece of ass, in the supermarket. Over her.

October 12, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterMarie

She did deserve her Oscar, as much as anyone "deserves" one of those statues. And if she has another Marge Sherwood, Viola De Lesseps or Kitty Dean in her, I'd be thrilled to see it.

October 12, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterPaul Outlaw

I maintain that people that think Gwyneth is not a fine actress have not seen her best work or thought about the range and nuance displayed in them

SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE - romantic soul
IRON MAN - screwball wit
GLEE - goofy showmanship
FLESH & BONE - unsettling amorality
ROYAL TENENBAUMS - perfect stylization

etcetera. She's a very good actress. It's just a shame she doesn't seem to care about acting but not all talented people care about their talents (sigh)

October 12, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterNathaniel R

@Nathaniel, don't forget EMMA! She is quite lovely and touching in it and doesn't avoid the pricklier qualities of a somewhat unlikable character (but still makes her quite likable).

The scene where Northam chastises her ("Badly done, Emma!") -- I could watch her humbled reaction all day.

It's a shame, like many have said, that she squanders her gifts on throwaway roles every once in a while that lead people to forget she has a lot of talent (and her mindless public quotes don't help).

Like I said, a shame - she has old-movie-star glamour rarely seen today (also see CZJ and Sharon Stone, two other beauties "of a certain age' who can be deadly in the right role).

October 12, 2016 | Unregistered Commenterphilip lombard

I'm counting nine performances of hers cited in these comments, and since one of them (Glee) was TV, I have to add her self-mocking appearance on Web Therapy to the list.

October 12, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterPaul Outlaw

Remember that time Gwyneth poked fun at Sharon Stone's then husband Phil Bronstein on SNL, and Sharon got real cranky? I wonder if they've ever made up over a steaming hot cup of something Goopy. I feel like this little episode in pop culture is not spoken of enough.

October 12, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterEz

A total fool.

October 12, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterMARKGORDON

I really do think Paltrow deserved the Oscar.

She's so warm, lovely and romantic, and frankly Blanchett has done better work later. I think we all look with hindsight at how a career turned out instead of looking at the performances and roles themselves in the given year. Can you imagine if she was already a two time Oscar winner by the time Blue Jasmine came around?

Nathaniel on top of those roles you listed, I think she's also lovely in Two Lovers and the criminally under seen Sylvia.

October 12, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterDrew C

Let's face it nepotism got her where she is nothing more nothing less, getting your foot in the door is everything and she had it v easy, she's like the female Gyllenhaal without the passion.

October 12, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterMARKGORDON

She is beautiful and talented, but these pictures are absurd. Did she really say nothing natural can be bad for you? I submit Arsenic.

October 12, 2016 | Unregistered Commenterdaisy

Her best moment in cinema was in "Infamous". Succinct indeed, but an unforgettable opening act.

October 12, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterDan

It's Oscar season, couldn't Harper's Bazaar have found a more relevant actress to photograph?

October 12, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterSuzanne

She's become such a tiresome butt-pimple that it's too easy to forget just how good she can be. She deserved her Oscar, but then so did all four of her competitors - that was one of the strongest lineups ever - almost as strong as 2015's. She stole the show as the world-class party-poop in The Royal Tennenbaums, and was very impressive in the otherwise dubious Shallow Hal. But to paraphrase Janet Jackson, What has she done for us lately?

October 12, 2016 | Unregistered Commenterken s

Nat: I'd interpret the posing of that second photo as implying she's about to try and trash the cereal aisle, starting with FLIPPING that cart.

October 12, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterVolvagia

I thought feminism was all the rage in the US. Now I'm confused.

October 12, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterGena

Gena - can't you see how much she's "empowering" herself? Geez

October 12, 2016 | Unregistered Commenterken s

Dayum, this chick used to get on my last nerve. I think her work on Glee mellowed her out somewhat. Now I find her almost bearable. But this photoshoot--WTF.

October 12, 2016 | Unregistered Commenterbrookesboy

She was probably wondering what kind of building she was in the whole time.

October 12, 2016 | Unregistered Commenterforever1267

5 thoughts I had.

1. Photoshopped
2. Words to the effect of what Gena said better above - "I thought feminism was all the rage in the US. Now I'm confused."
3. Out of touch. Why does Gwyneth feel the need to do this?
4. I wish Gwyneth would just do some acting.
5. Photoshopped

October 12, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterJoanne

Paltrow is gorgeous, no question, but she looks positively emaciated in a couple of these shots. I hope it's over-aggressive airbrushing and not a mad effort to remain a size 00. Layout aside, she *does* have a lot of onscreen talent, and I'll defend her Oscar win (as well as performances in Flesh & Bone, Emma, The Royal Tenenbaums, Iron Man, and Two Lovers) till the day I die. (Incidentally, I'd love to see her work with Allen, Almodovar, or Assayas.)

October 12, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterMareko

The comments on here make me cringe. They're really harsh. The vitriol with which people will cast stones at a woman/celebrity/actress who they've never met is absolutely bonkers. Get a grip.

October 12, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterPhilip H.

"butt pimple" had me falling down laughing!!!!

October 14, 2016 | Unregistered Commenterrick

I do think Gwyneth is great ....she`s delivered lots of interesting performances (Great Expectations, Ripley, Tenenbaums, Sylvia, Proof, Two Lovers......) just wish she acted more often ! She totally deserved her Oscar and sure she deserved a nod for Proof ( love her so much in that film ) as for Sharon Stone, I am still waiting Miss Stone to get a juicy role cause boy that woman is completely wasted , she`s obviously fantastic in Casino ( robbed by Susan Sarandon, by the way) but she is also great in the likes of Intersection (riveting), Diabolique (campy), The Mighty ( where was her Oscar nod here) Lovelace ( best thing in it) , I`d love to see her working with someone like Polanski or PT Anderson, Allen, Almodovar, Audiard, Dolan ....
