New Photos from "Where is Kyra?"
more pics and an important question...
The new film from indie writer/director Andrew Dosunmu (Mother of George) which was formerly called Beat-Up Little Seagull will be debuting at the Sundance Film Festival. I've heard whispers that it's a somewhat challenging art film. For Pfans that will be exciting since La Pfeiffer doesn't make those. But that doesn't necessarily mean we'll be getting the media comeback we deserve for the one and only. We may need success for the more mainstream vehicles Wizard of Lies (on HBO with Robert De Niro as Bernie & Ruth Madoff) and Murder on the Orient Express (Pfeiffer is taking on the Lauren Bacall role) and Mother (from Darren Aronofsky) to really see that happen in 2017, but who knows?
Sundance promo synopsis:
Mild-mannered, sheltered Kyra, played with intensity by Michelle Pfeiffer, begins to spiral after the death of her mother. Long out of work, the deep-in-debt Kyra struggles to support herself. As she becomes increasingly desperate and isolated, longing for her mother, she launches a cryptic, last-ditch scheme to keep from being evicted. She also finds solace in another lonely soul, Doug (Kiefer Sutherland), from whom she initially tries to hide her plight, but Kyra slowly ropes him into her deception.
We don't yet know if Pfeiffer will be attending Sundance and she's always been hard to read when it comes to publicity and promotion.
What should we do to celebrate this multiple Pfeiffer year here at TFE?

Why did they change the title? Although the meaning is a little lost on me, Beat-Up Little Seagull sounds far more interesting than the generic Where Is Kyra? (zzz). I also hope this doesn't go the (VOD) way of Personal Effects, which is what these stills are giving me shades of (sans Kutcher). Anyway, Pfeiffer pfan pforever!
This director's the real deal. With an actress like Pfeiffer, guaranteed slam dunk.
At this point, all we know is that it'll be pretty. Dosunmu's films are always gorgeous thanks to Bradford Young. Who knows when I'll get to see this, but I look forward to having Pfeiffer back and marveling at another visually striking film.
Um, you forgot what is likely to be her most high profile film next year: Darren Aronofsky's Mother, with Jennifer Lawrence and Javier Bardem. And it's being released next December in the heat of Oscar season.
I second the snooze-fest mediocrity of the new title. Beat-Up Little Seagull is bizarre, but hella more interesting.
I see this title and think of Kyra Sedgwick so I AM HAPPY. If only she were in the movie.
I wish they would change the title too! The movie looks raw and interesting. Not what I expected. Bradford Young sure knows what he's doing.
A personal canon would be nice. Specially if you focus on her less discussed movies.
Those are some breathtaking Bradford Young shots there
Devote the 2017 banners exclusively to Pfeiffer. Alternate monthly. January Wolf, February Married to the Mob, March Scarface, etc.
Let's just talk about Wolf.
I think Michelle Pfeiffer just wanted to work with Mike Nichols. That's the only reason I can explain her involvement in Wolf.
And Nicholson but if I'm not mistaken she turned the role down more than once before signing on.
AGAIN whenever I scroll through this blog people seem negative get over it be happy!
I know I have the rep of your resident nemesis, but I want to make sure you follow through on usable suggestions for Pfeiffer 2017 at The Film Experience.
It'd be cool to see a retrospective of her performances? Also, has there been a posterized of her films already? Plus, maybe we could find a way to take hit songs and insert her name to keep the momentum of "Uptown Funk/Riptide" going? And to end it all, throwing an online Pfeiffer-costume party (everyone take photos) complete with a "Hit Me With Your Best Shot," mixtape compilations (featuring her songs & songs that make us think of her) trading, and a "When Did You Become a Pfeiffer Fan?" storytelling post.
thanks for these suggestions. will do something big. I'm just trying to decide what. I miss her so much and want to give her the proper welcome back.
