Thoughts I Had... The 'Suicide Squad' Character Posters
After Finding Dory's big opening this past weekend, our last remaining potential mega hit of the summer is Suicide Squad. The twist on the superhero super-antihero blockbuster is our only comic book film of the season left (shocking, right?) and is pushing hard to turn favor for the DC Universe after this spring's unmentionable. While it has a cast packed with stars and recognizable faces, some of its characters are still unknown to the masses.
And wouldn't you know, here's a new set of character posters to get you acquainted! We've covered the film's building teases, but this is too poppy and fun to pass up.
Here are some thoughts...
Viola Davis: Superhero sounds like the summer blockbuster we actually need and deserve. Special powers include being flawless, cutting victims down to size with a single withering glance, and making the masses cry on cue. "Worst. Heroes. Ever."?? Not on your life, darling...
What kind of "Lisa Frank Goes to Jail" fantasy is this?? Margot Robbie has all of the buzz and it's about time we have a blast with Harley Quinn on screen, but I can't help but gird my loins for the Hot Topic-ness of it all.
Given Jared Leto's reported offscreen Method antics there is an uncomfortable amount of... *ahem* fluid on his poster.
Will Smith's box office clout has been waning for some time though this should be his first big hit in years. The pop art motif is fun in the other posters, but here it sounds the alarm that one of our favorite action stars is back where we love him best.
Jai Courtney is probably supposed to be given some kind of rascally quip with that facial expression, but all I'm getting is "Hey girrrl" or "Yaaas Queen". I'm kinda here for it?
Because no superhero movie is complete without the macho. Let's hope the film is more interested in the kookiness instead of the brawn.
Ooh, now he's where it gets interesting. It's like scary, oddball side villain action fictures you had as kid are coming to the foreground. More of them please!!
Do you have a favorite Suicide Squad member already?

Little suggestion! Is there a way to move bylines to the top of TFE stories? I like the "[Name] here," salutations but they've conditioned me to think every time I don't see it, the blogs are written by Nathaniel. And often that's not the case, which I find out midway through when I'm like "Hmmm Nat youre not really sounding like yourself today." I'm just as guaranteed to read something by Chris or others but it's nice to know who I'm reading! xoxoxo
Anon -- i've been thinking about solutions for this but putting it off because i think it would involve changing the infrastructure of how the blog looks (new system) and such. but i totally agree. Ideally i would like mini photos with bylines at beginning but because of systemic things like feeds elswhere this would put the author's photos rather than the topic of the post on feeds which would be super confusing.
but i hear you. I was working on a site wide revamp but i lost my coder :(
At first sight I always think of Gillian Jacobs as the actress playing Harley Quinn.
Chris -- i am giggling at your description of the Viola Davis poster
