Golden Globes Tonight!
Golden Globe Madness is about to hit. Yipee! So make sure you're watching tonight (5 PM PT / 8 PM EST on NBC). We haven't forgiven Jimmy Fallon for treating T**** like a cuddly harmless celebrity instead of a Democracy destroying fascist but we don't watch awards shows for the hosts anyway (the Amy & Tina years were just a happy bonus) but for the stars who dress up, copiously drink, and win or lose graciously or otherwise.
I am quite terrible at predicting the Globes and have never claimed otherwise but I'm guessing it goes like so...
MOVIES
DRAMA will: Manchester; could/should: Moonlight
COMEDY/MUSICAL will: La La Land; could: (just La La Land); should: 20th Century Women
DIRECTOR will: Damien Chazelle, La La Land; could/should: Barry Jenkins, Moonlight
DRAMA ACTRESS will: Adams; could: Portman; should: Huppert
DRAMA ACTOR will: Affleck; could: Washington; should: since Denzel already has 3 Globes I'm rooting for Viggo
COMEDY ACTRESS will: Stone; could: (just Emma); should: Bening
COMEDY ACTOR will: Gosling; could: Reynolds; should: Gos or Grant or Farrell would be beautiful picks
SUPPORTING ACTRESS will: Viola; could: (just Viola); should: they're all so good. don't you love this lineup? I'm selfishly hoping for Naomie Harris or Nicole Kidman to shock solely because Viola's a leading lady.
SUPPORTING ACTOR will: Dev Patel (I have to predict one shock win because it's the Globes!); could/should: Mahershara Ali
MORE ON THOSE CATEGORIES IN MY COLUMN AT TOWLEROAD

You are predicting two (!) big upsets in the main (film) categories. Adams and Patel.
Also interested that you view Huppert > Portman. If I had to guess your line-up from the main contenders it would be: Bening > Huppert > Stone > Portman > not sure maybe then Negga > Adams > Streep. Quite a bit different than mine but that is ok, ''tis a rich field.

I have this odd feeling that lion is going to build supporting race momentum for atleast one of the two races. Kidman and Patel are really working the campaign trail.
Kidman and Patel are really working the campaign trail.
They have to to secure nods with the Academy.
I get why Zootopia is a favorite, but go Kubo! Laika deserves it and it's a great film
Here's another against the grain prediction: Nocturnal Animals wins at least 1 award. I really don't get all the hate around here for that film.. is it flawed, yes, but so are most of the top contenders
Right on with the Fallon remarks. He is a person of high profile, and joking around with fascists is not benign, it is downright dangerous. Thank god Kimmel is hosting the Oscars.
Agree with most of yours.
Really hoping Tracee Ellis Ross picks up the Globe for Comedy Actress. If not her, I think it'll be Issa Rae. If it's SJP: boo.
Hoping Isabelle Huppert wins.
Viola will finally win a Golden Globe.
I'm interested to see if Courtney B. Vance or Riz Ahmed takes Actor in Miniseries/Movie. I want a tie.
I love everyone in her category, but how AMAZING would it be if Issa Rae won?
Anyways, let's GO La La Land!
Does anyone knows any ceremony stream?
Jimmy Fallon > Bill Maher
Scott Baio > Meryl Streep
I'd like Isabelle Hupert to win ( because she's by far the best of the crop in general, not only this year ) bu all in all I don't have strong feelings for anybody. Maybe it's an off year for me because of politics but I couldn't summon up any degree of excitement for the awards season . The only strong feeling "against" I have is Westworld. Talk about "emperor new clothes". Idiotic. ( of course my own humble opinion ).
If I see either Olivia Colman, Lena Heady or Thandie Newton accepting an award I´ll be a happy man.
Also: Sarah Paulson.
And: We all should be as grateful as Lilly Collins is ....just happy being there... sitting with the big ones... in a category with Meryl Streep.
Speaking of Meryl: Will she mention Debbie and Carrie? If so, nobody else should be allowed to mention them.... Looking at you, Ryan Gosling.
PS: Why is John Travolta nominated and Ricky Gervais isn´t hosting. Fuck you, god.
Glad to hear that you haven't forgiven Fallon, neither have I.
I'm not making any big predictions. I loved "Arrival" so I really would prefer to see Adams pull out a win.
I think Hugh Grant gave a better performance but I suppose Gosling will win.
I was a little underwhelmed by LLL but Emma Stone was the best part..
I would love to see Olivia Coleman win something.
Final prediction, Meryl Streep will give an awesome speech and radiate grace, good humour, and fun. And that will make the whole show more fun to watch.
Any awards show with a guaranteed Streep speech is imperative viewing. Regardless of your opinion on Streep, it can't be denied that she gives the best speeches in the business. Hoping she might throw in a quick tribute to Carrie.
I kno Portman is gonna take it but is hoping Huppert can pull an upset coming fr all the critics wins she's getting!
