All the Supporting Actress Gowns
Remember a couple of years ago when that Best Actress Gown graphic was going around? TFE reader Lucio Tirao, who we've profiled before here in a reader spotlight, was frustrated that there wasn't one for Best Supporting Actress so he created it himself!
Well done, Lucio! You can see the whole chart after the jump and click to embiggen for the hi-res image...

This brings back memories of Oscar night, doesn't it!? Wonderful memories in select years, not so wondrous in others but such is the nature of both Oscar wins and Oscar fashions...

Many of the illustrations actually look more gorgeous than some of the dresses tbh....Beautiful job Lucio!!!!
For Alice Brady, they should have made an exception and included the person who attended for her.
Beautiful work, Lucia! Marcia Gay Harden gets my vote for all-time best-dressed Supporting Actress winner.
Many of the illustrations actually look more gorgeous than some of the dresses tbh
That was my first reaction when I saw Hathaway's dress...
Lupita's dress is so, so lovely.
Fabulous! Miyoyi Humeki, Marisa Tomei, and Reneé Zellweger are my absolute favorites (although Hattie McDaniel and Cate Blanchett also were divine).
What I wouldn't give to have seen Goldie Hawn show up to accept her Oscar in 1970!
Renee Zellweger's dress is gorgeous. Still one of my favorite Oscar dresses of all time. Whatever the conversation around Renee, she has always been on point when it came to fashion, especially at the oscars.
It's like when you see sketches on Project Runway and then the final design and it's like "how did you go from there to that?!"
THIS IS DIVINE. I love it.
Linda Hunt wins for the most distinctive outfit.
Beautiful illustrations.
Anjelica Huston's dress is my favorite, and she co-designed it. That woman is dripping with style.
Crimson Donna Reed, possums.
That is stunning! Anna Paquin's wee dress, aww!
OT: So happy about MOONLIGHT's WGA award! <3
This is awesome. Do many of these dresses are iconic, Miyoshi Umeki, Angelica Huston, Lupita, Cate, Juliette Binoche...
Is this heaven?
Rita Moreno's gown looks like it was DRAMA!
Beautiful! Cate is my favorite, but I loved Anjelica, Marisa Tomei and Marcia, too.
I've gotta ask, Nathaniel, how okay are you with the year identifiers as they are?
Arkaan: I hate the year identifiers that reflect the year of the ceremony and not the eligibility year. All the traditional books (Robert Osborn's, for example) stick to the traditional way. That's the way I have all the data in my head!!!
Arkaan -- well, i'm not but it's still cool to see this done.
Lucio's drawing of Anne Baxter's gown is 1000x better than the actual dress.
Can we talk about...
1) how for four years in a row, the Supporting Actress winner's initials were M.S.?
And 2) how the only two women to win the award twice (Winters and Weist) not only had W last names, but more notably, both wore black for both of their wins?
It would appear that Teresa Wright and Rachel Weisz also wore black...
is Eva Marie Saint's dress the same as Marge Simpson's Chanel dress?
So interesting ! But Miyoshi Umeki's name is seriously misspelled. Any way to fix it? Also, Beatrice Straight
Dianne Wiest is also misspelled. And the dates drive me crazy as well.
Even as a drawing Jennifer Connelly's gown is still ugly.
to me - worst: Weist '95, hunt, connelly, redgrave & hull. Best: McDaniel, Moreno, Ruth Gordon is so sassy & fun - youtube it!, & Blanchett. Actually Zellweger is way up there....but i just could not add her. Glad she's kind of gone now. I also love Dorothy Malone.
