NYT terribly sad debacle going on with The Great Comet of 1812 on Broadway. When I first heard about Mandy Patinkin's casting I was thrilled because I haven't yet seen the show and totally love that man. But it seems in order to accomodate him (in the role formerly played by Josh Groban) they were ousting their current leading man Okieriete “Oak” Onaodowan (from Hamilton) earlier than his scheduled final date. The optics look bad even though Broadway shows do these type of celebrity casting changes constantly. Patinkin has now dropped out and Oak won't extend and now the entire cast, which includes several actors of color (the show was previously praised for its diverse casting), could be out of jobs because they might close early due to the public outrage.

The new Charlie XCX video "Boys" is a sexy blast. So many celebrity cameos including the internet's current boyfriend Riz Ahmed, diver Tom Daley, and a slew of musicians. There is a chainsaw in this video but as Charli states
NO BOYS WERE HARMED IN THE MAKING OF THIS VIDEO 💕

Honestly WTF
Unless they would actually BUY tickets, people should not be outraged by Mandy's casting! It is an UPGRADE from Oak that is for freaking sure. And if it would keep the show afloat, then why not?!
Of course Mandy is a gentleman and after finding this, he decided to get out of there too.
And thanks for some people who doesn't even go to see the show, those cast and crew is in grave danger of losing their jobs.
I've been watching that Charli video all freaking day.
It would be a bad idea for WB to do a major Oscar campaign for Wonder Woman. It was an enjoyable movie, more so than any DC film since the Dark Knight Rises but its not Mad Max Fury Road.
I wouldn't say Mandy is a gentleman for bailing, it's more the bad press me thinks. Regardless, these internet outrages at every little thing are getting ridiculous - this clearly was not race based in any way shape or form.
Had tickets for London Cat on a Hot Tin Roof but had to cancel because my travel plans changed. Now I know that I'm missing out on naked Jack O'Connell? Sigh. Life regret. ;)
Why is Anne Hathaway even considering the Barbie movie?
No one wins in the Patinkin crisis. So sad.
I adored Great Comet and Oak in the role. The bad press was very unfortunate for a show that's doing some pretty innovative things on Broadway. I'm lukewarm on Mandy Patinkin (sorry) and I feel like the casting choice was the laziest kind of thinking - moreso because the show thinks outside of the box at almost every turn.
It's just really unfortunate all around because more people should get to experience this show and I think Oak is giving what it needs. More than Patinkin would have anyway.
Is it news that the Haigh and O'Connell biopic of Alexander McQueen is no longer going ahead? I hadn't heard that news and the interview of the O'Connell piece hadn't heard it either. That's sad news. Although maybe now Russell Tovey can finally pick up the role considering how much he looks like McQueen...
