Red Carpet Lineup: Glorious "Royal Attire" at Black Panther's Premiere

by Nathaniel R

Daniel Kaluuya, Lupita Nyong'o, Angela Bassett, Chadwick Boseman

It's only January and 2018 has already seen the finest movie premiere red carpet of the year. We're getting started early with the superlatives, apparently. The Black Panther guests were asked to come with "royal attire" in mind and even the carpet had royalty in mind with its purple hue...

Freshly Oscar nominated Daniel Kaluuya wore a traditional Uganda outfit, Chadwick Boseman was in gold and black, and two of the most beautiful women in Hollywood, Lupita Nyong'o and Angela Bassett, wore vibrant single colors with head-turning gold accessories.

David Oyelowo, Janelle Monae, Donald Glover, Colbie Smulders

Even the guests that aren't in the movie were resplendent in African prints, faux crowns, and vibrant colors.

Issa Rae, Mike Coulter, Janeshia Adams-Ginyard, and Danai Gurira

One last group for your viewing pleasure. This may be the first time I've ever seen a stuntperson make such a splash on a red purple carpet. Third to the right there, in that incredible vegetative yellow bell shaped gown is Janeshia Adams-Ginyard who is the stunt double for both Danai Gurira who plays "Okoye" and a character named "Dora Milaje"

Angela, holy shit. When is she getting that one juicy role that will finally bring her an Oscar???

Stunning, all of them.

Honestly, this is what a premiere should be and the cast/crew chose to look like the one thing that is missing these days. Royalty. Lupita looked like a princess and Angela Bassett definitely exuded the beauty of a queen. It's just getting more hyped for this film.

BLACK PEOPLE ARE MAGIC!!! Yes, we are! The excitement that this movie is brining about in my friends is just palpable. There's hardly been anything like it before that I've ever experienced. Seeing these beautiful looks at the premiere just makes me even more excited, and happier still that Marvel seems to have let the reins loosen a bit, allowing for what feels like a special moment for all the Black and Brown folks out there.

Given the predictable HUGE success of Black Panther - hype is over the roof - I predict that Marvel might try repeat the formula with either Shang Chi or Sunfire (once they get the mutants)...

Janeshia Adams-Ginyard‘s is a star-making dress. Wow. Can she act? Surely she should model at the very least.

David Oyelowo is so-o-o cute, Angela Bassett is fierce as all Get Out, and Issa Rae has frankly never looked so stunning. Yum.

I can't help but think about all of the black children around the world who will look at these images and see themselves in ways I'm which they'd previously only dreamed. Take note, film industry. Representation matters.

Take note, film industry. Representation matters.

Black people are the only community who gets a contact high from representation. Other groups are mostly houses divided to the point where there is no collective energy happening. Hollywood investing in black creators and stars while hiring black people for power positions in the offices of the studios would certainly push us out of where we are right now.

Beauty and gorgeousness. Angela is eternal! But come on, Chadwick, you're the star and the theme was ROYALTY. I want more from the leading man.

Best, mic-drop red carpet ever.

Also I don't think I've been this excited for a movie in a *very* long time. Please, please, let it live up to my expectations!

Everybody looks great but my god, Kaluuya's blazer combined with the rest of the outfit is a fashion disaster !!!!

Jesus Alonso: If they try to do something like this again with an Asian or Asian American hero? Yeah, Shang Chi sounds about right. Plus, that easily justifies them FINALLY introducing that "Real Mandarin" tease from the All Hail the King one-shot and NOT being super uncomfortable. A face-off between The Real Mandarin and Robert Downey Jr's replacement in...Iron Man 5 or 6...might be cool.
