Red Carpet Arrivals
The Oscars start at 8:00 but until then arrival madness...
• Ashley Judd and Mira Sorvino were talking Times Up on the red carpet. My mind drifted to Marilyn Monroe, who they played together in a TV movie. Marilyn endured constant sexual harassment and I think she'd be proud of them.
• Adam Rippon wore a harness to the Oscars, doing his part to queer things up. We have a number of LGBTQ people / films up for Oscars tonight: Dee Rees and James Ivory (both in Adapted Screenplay), the Chilean nominatee A Fantastic Woman, and the Best Pic nominee Call Me By Your Name, and Rachel Morrison, the first woman nominated in Cinematography. More after the jump...
• Agnès Varda being very Agnès Varda. Love her. And check out those shoes on Dee Rees. Wow.
• Timothée Chalamet brought his mom and wore a white tux! (The men are really doing more fashion-wise than usual). Chalamet gives a beautifully enthusiastic shout out to public school Arts Education (yes!) and LaGuardia High School for the Performing Arts. He says he wouldn't be at the Oscars without his time there and he even name checks a teacher. So cool.
• The ABC red carpet team is telling everyone "I'm rooting for you". People... the Oscars don't have five way ties. You can't say that to everyone!
• It's true. Rita Moreno wore the same dress she wore to the 1961 Oscars. She did adjust the top though, it looks like.
• Nicole Kidman says she's dying to see Oceans 8. Same, girl. Same.
ENJOY THE SHOW

Why is Adam Rippon at the Oscars?
I love the harness and cut out tux. Where are the pictures of Meryl Streep and Leslie Manville? They are everything.
Who the fuck is Blanca Blanco and why does she keep showing up at these awards?
Mareko, I was wondering the same thing. I mean, he didn't even win a men's singles medal. Like, is he someone's guest?
Streep is wearing custom red Dior. Love it. The scarlet woman but very glamorous and classic.
You missed Yance Ford, the first trans person nominated for Best Documentary (and possibly for anything?). His film Strong Island was one of my favorite docs of the year.
Troy & Mareko -- it's pretty commo for Olympians to show up at major showbiz events right around the time of the Olympics. I suspect they get invited everywhere.
Sports stars have always been invited to the Oscars. This year one of them, Kobe Bryant, actually won! And we've seen Muhammad Ali, George Foreman, Jake La Motta, at the Oscars representing films they were in. I have no problem with Adam Rippon being invited. Gays and Oscars are a tradition - right?
Kidman totally horned in on Bullock's interview.
Yance Ford and Tatiana S. Riegel as well for LGBTQ representation! :)
