Cannes Carpet #2: Lupita, Amber, Dame Helen, and lots of Marion Cotillard
by Nathaniel R
The Cannes red carpet waits for no man. So we'll keep trying to bring you 16 key looks each couple of days -- wish us luck! If you missed part one that's here. Outside of movies, which we'll get to on Monday, the weeked at Cannes was filled with the 82 woman protest and of course more and more gowns. Above we have Fan Bingbing in an amazing assymetrical dress from Alexis Mabille Haute Couture with sharp black ribbon details. In the past five years of fame Lupita Nyong'o has, we believe, now worn every single color that exists. Prada peach perfect, this time. Amber Heard is making quite a statement (though what is it?) in a puffy black and white floral number from Giambattista Valli Haute Couture. And Marion Cotillard looks fresh and fun in this Adam Selman gingham dress --love the smart belted hint of green for summer and red sandals for flash. Cotillard's film this year is called Angel Face which is an apt description. And Cotillard has been working it every day at the festival...
Amber Heard had wildly different looks in quick succession, including this huge floral print with almost no top. Dame Helen came out in royal blue Elie Saab like the Queen she is. Chloe Sevigny opted for a simple dress with a long fun cord; you can ring her for whenever you'd like. Lupita stunned (as usual) in some sort of caged bodice with feathery dress.
Zhao Tao (who stars in competition film Ash is the Purest White) chose an unusual color combo but it's lovely. Supermodel and intermittent actress Naomi Campbell attended the Dior dinner in an eye popping art print halter top dress. Aja Naomi King opted for fiery red via Pamella Roland. And this is the second of two sheath like black dresses at the fest for Marion Cotillard, both with some sheer elements.
Léa Seydoux. That is all. And that is always enough.
Aishwarya Rai always favors load of fabric but there was something about this deep purple mermaid gown by Michael Cinco Couture that felt different for her. Was it the print that screams peacock or magenta moths head on acid? Marion Cotillard in Armani Prive. She sure does love the black and white. For Aja Naomi King's other Cannes look she went silver.
Which is your favorite from these 16?

Aja Naomi King looked incredible/edible in both of her gorgeous ensembles, but
For me, Giambattista Valli Haute Couture wins the day.
I'm not in love with either of Cotillard's two looks. That first one in particular looks cheap and tacky and reminds me of kitchen curtains.
Nyong'o's peach gown resembles the one in which she accepted her Oscar to me.
All I’m sensing from these ladies is repetition and boredom
Mmmm..... Lea, Marion, Lupita, dame Helen, and Fan. Bringing it as usual.
