RIP Peter Fonda

"He should've totally won the Oscar for his sensitive and subtle turn in Ulee's Gold" - Claran

"You're right, it is hard to look beyond Easy Rider in most assessments of his career, so it's great to hear more about these other films..." -Edward

Watch at Home: Eighth Grade & Old Man and the Gun

What's newly available for home viewing? Herewith a quick survey of new releases andgreat deals

DVD/Blu-Ray
Halloween -  Jamie Lee Curtis returns to battle her star-making demons in this monster hit
Madeline's Madeline - While it wasn't quite an arthouse hit, this experimental film has obsessive fans.
Mid90s -Jonah Hill's directorial debut
Monsters & Men - John David Washington is up for a Spirit Award for his supporting role in this well reviewed race drama
Old Man and the Gun - Robert Redford charms, and Sissy Spacek and Casey Affleck provide soulful support in this mellow but pleasing bank robbery movie...

It doubles as an elegiac farewell to Hollywood's most enduring Golden Boy as he fades into the movie sunset. Well at least until he comes out of retirement. It rarely sticks with movie stars if someone offers them a good part.

New iTunes 99¢ Deals
Juliet, Naked (2018) Ethan Hawke and Rose Byrne costar in this romcom
Good Manners (2018) A Brazilian lesbian werewolf movie. No, really. Worth seeing but to my mind, a little too much of a good thing. Two movies smushed together or just in need of a well placed time jump intermission?
A Star is Born (1954) AND (1976) Before the Oscar nominations here's another chance to catch up with the other two musical versions of this beloved Hollywood drama. The 1954 version is an all timer, so if you've never seen it...

Highlights from New-to-Streaming

Hey

Eighth Grade on Amazon Prime
Will it get a screenplay nomination? Could Elsie Fisher surprise in Best Actress or win a Spirit Award?
Solo: A Star Wars Story on Netflix
What will Netflix do once Disney launches their own channel? They're going to lose so many movies. We think this is going to get the usual vfx nomination at the Oscars for Star Wars titles even though people were so down on the movie.
Annihilation on Hulu
Watch to discover why it was denied even the visual effects semi-finals at the Oscar. Kidding!  Watching won't clear that up for you. It's a mystery!

Also streaming in January

^^nice

Casey Affleck is so good in The Old Man and the Gun. So are Redford and Spacek, but he's best in show. Should be in the conversation.

I'm so sad Sissy Spacek hasn't shown up anywhere for her enchanting work in OLD MAN. :(

Sissy's a goddess. Hope her great 2018 leads to more luminous work.
