It's their 21st movie!
by Nathaniel R
(yes we'll get to the DGA awards in a minute. until then...)
Both Regina King (If Beale Street Could Talk) and Adam Driver (BlacKkKlansman) are nominated this year for their 21st feature film roles. So let's play a game.
With 21 days until the Oscars, we selected 21 screencaps of 21 very randomly selected favourite actors of TFE from their 21st films. Guess what the movie is in the comments (please only 1 movie guess per comment to give multiple readers a chance to guess.). They won't all be as easy as #1 after the jump...
Reader Comments (47)
1. Moulin Rouge! (my personal favorite as well)
#8 Dangerous Minds
17 Laura Dern in "I am Sam". Such an underrated movie.
20. Penelope Cruz - All About My Mother
1 Moulin Rouge
6 that film where Rupert Everett and Johnathan Pryce are lovers
9 Closer
16 Macbeth
17 Citizen Ruth?
18 The beach
20 Todo sobre mi madre
21 - Bette Davis and Margaret Lindsay in FOG OVER FRISCO (1934). This movie gets a little better if you are a great great fan of Davis. In her times as Warner Brothers Queen Bette had to fight for good scripts and roles and this movie is there as a proof.
4. Meryl in The River Wild
I'll have Birdman of Alcatraz for Thelma Ritter, please.
(Also, seeing how Brown Cow Stunning ignores the one guess per comment rule certainly doesn't give me that ooh ah ah sensation.)
Wtf, somebody showed up to defend I Am Sam!
... And the costumes are TE-RRI-BLE!
Viola Davis in Eat Pray Love
I'm thrown by this exercise not using screen grabs from Driver and King's filmography?
1. Moulin Rouge 2. Babel 5 Out of Africa 8 Dangerous Minds 11. LOTR: The Two Towers 12. The Great Debaters 16. Macbeth im probably so wrong on some of these

JULIE ANDREWS IN......THE PRINCESS DIARIES?
NB-BCCT - Couldn't place which Julie Andrews movie. I was thinking 10 since I would have thought Julie Andrews would have past 21 movies by 2001.
NB -- nope but right time period
6. The Princess Diaries II (I was going to say The Princess Diaries, but you already said that's wrong.)
One reason Natalie Wood got to twenty one films so quickly is because she started so early (in "Miracle on 34th St.", I think.)
4 - Ziegfeld Follies, 1945, is one of my favorites - being an old musicals lover. Every movie director should watch it to learn how to make a movie of the genre. Because the movie is exactly about that. A pretext for MGM to put its star cast in several numbers; the one with Judy Garland "A Great Lady Has an Interview" is a lot of fun and she's never been so beautiful. Fanny Brice, the original Funny Girl, one of Ziegfeld's stars, is in the cast.
10 is Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, right?
guesses
3 No
19 Spiceworld
#10- Norma Shearer in Lady of the Night
3) Bad Education?
6) On Golden Pond?
6 It's Unconditional Love!
18. Tilda Swinton “The Beach”
6 - Unconditional Loe
Doh! Just saw someone got in first.
What a fun, if rather oddly structured and paced, film.
Is Denzel's the one with the serial killer? I can't remember the name of it.
Okay, Gael is in Letters to Juliet and Denzel is in Fallen.
13 Love and Other Drugs
Oops no...Anne in Song One for #13.
@NATHANIEL R In my defense I was born in 1993 haha
Adam Lewis - It should be a classic. People have to watch it
OK who knows their Asian cinema and can guess #7?
# 7 - Pfeiffer in Dangerous Minds
CLUE: #7 is TONY LEUNG CHIU-WAI who is only the greatest asian movie star (well, among the men that is). But even i might have a hard time guessing this movie (i've never seen this one)
#10 - Lady of the Night
#18 - The Beach
#19 - Spice World
Nathaniel, it took me a while to recognize Tony Leung because he looks so young in that image! No clue what movie it is, though...
Laura Dern is in I Am Sam?! Huh.
20 Todo sobre mi madre
#10 is giving some Adore Delano realness!
Evan -- lol. I've never heard Norma Shearer compared to Adore Delano but I can kinda see it.
Is that An Bee (Kenny Bee from the HK group Wynners) beside Tony Leung?
Tony Leung in Happy Together!!
Kidman in Moulin Rouge
Blanchett in The Missing
Law in Closer
Davis in Eat Pray Love
Penelope Cruz in All About My Mother
Meryl Streep in The River Wild
Tilda Swinton in The Beach
Since I cheated with wikipedia, I won't post the answer. But Tony Leung sure made a lot of movies in and before his prime!
OKAY you all did great yesterday. The final answer is Tony Leung Chiu Wai in THE TIGERS.
