Julie fêted in Venice
by Nathaniel R
She's practically perfect in every way. And to her Oscar, BAFTA, two Emmys, two Grammys, and three Golden Globes, you can now add the career Golden Lion from the Venice Film Festival. It's not her first lifetime achievement style prize of course. The 83 year-old living legend started receiving lifetime style prizes about 18 years ago, kicked off by the double whammy of The Kennedy Center Honors and the San Sebastian Film Festival. Since then it's been pretty regular fêting but whose complaining? Not us!
What's your favourite Julie Andrews performance outside of the big Oscar three (Victoria Grant, Mary Poppins, and Maria Von Trapp)?

Favorite non-musical performance- The Americanization of Emily
Favorite musical-Thoroughly Modern Millie
Star! is a sumptuous eyeful with dazzling production numbers and Julie in glorious voice but it's plodding.
My favourite is probably everyone's Mary Poppins.
If I had to single out a dramatic performance it's her 86 role in Duet for One,she is quite abrasive in it and sexy, needy and vulnerable and ultimately moving, she should have had a spot on the 86 BA race for sure.
Star!
Her turn as Jerusha in Hawaii was practically perfect, although it helped consolidate her image as the British counterpart to the equally chaste Doris Day.
For me, it's S.O.B. where Andrews finally destroys her goody-goody image by saying some profanity and shows off her boobies. And those were some seriously nice boobies by the way.
I also love Millie also known as The Carol Channing Show.
If I can't pick Mary Poppins, I'll go with Thoroughly Modern Millie. I don't know if I even consider it all that "good" a performance, but I find so much about that film delightful, including Andrews in it, that I'll pick that for my favorite.
SOB she showed her gorgeous figure for all to see.
Comedy: 10
Drama: The Tamarind Seed
Both criminally underrated gems by husband Blake Edwards.
Darling Lilly was one of my mom's favorites when I was growing up, so I've seen it a billion times. I'd have to say outside of the big three it's probably my favorite, too.
Love, love, love Julie. A couple not yet mentioned:
Early days: Title role in the live 1957 TV broadcast of Rogers & Hammerstein's Cinderella. Thank God for the kinescope!
(The Leslie Anne Warren version is the one I saw first at 10, and I love it too. But Julie played it LIVE... and Hammerstein's original book is VASTLY better than every later version's revised book.)
Late days: The Princess Diaries. She steals every scene that Hector Elizondo doesn't!
(And mind you, I didn't see this film as impressionable kid like most of you, I was already in my forties.)
The opening to the 1991 Tony Awards
Duet For One. Accompaniment by Liam Neeson, Alan Bates, and Rupert Everett.
Andrews is a treasure. I really love her in 10, which may be the very first movie of hers I saw (yes, even before Mary Poppins, etc.). She also was quite lovely in Camelot, and, somewhat surprisingly, hasn’t made a lot of films.
The Americanization of Emily great chemistry with J Garner
Favorite is Mary Poppins and the sound of music. I like it because back then there was such great acting.
I second "Duet For One" (1986).
She is spectacular in Star! and should have gotten an Oscar nomination. As she should have for Duet for One. And she's so great in Millie. A true legend and one of the greatest artists we've ever had.
Just a few days ago, I listened to the What It Takes podcast's episode on Julie Andrews. It cobbles together interviews of hers over the last 20ish years, and it was so wonderful hearing her tell her life story. Totally recommend it if you're into podcasts.
