30 days till Oscar

Which actor turning 30 in 2020 will be the first to win an Oscar? (Or in the case of Jennifer Lawrence win a second Oscar). Here's a list of key working actors of the moment (with their current Oscar stats). If they've appeared in a film nominated for Best Picture (or expected to be Monday) that film is mentioned after their name...

  • Liam Aiken (0/0)
  • Ross Butler (0/0)
  • Choi Woo Shik (0/0) Parasite
  • Emory Cohen (0/0) -Brooklyn
  • Elizabeth Debicki (0/0)
  • Eiza Gonzalez (0/0)
  • Laura Harrier (0/0) -BlacKkKlansman
  • Liam Hemsworth (0/0)
  • Q'orianka Kilcher (0/0)
  • Jennifer Lawrence (4/1) - American Hustle, Silver Linings Playbook, Winter's Bone
  • Jack Lowden (0/0)
  • Jack O'Connell (0/0)
  • Dev Patel (1/0) -Slumdog Millionaire, Lion

  • Himesh Patel (0/0)
  • Margot Robbie (1/0) Wolf of Wall Street, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
  • Bill Skarsgard (0/0)
  • Kristen Stewart (0/0)
  • Aaron Taylor-Johnson (0/0)
  • Emma Watson (0/0) Little Women
  • Denzel Whitaker (0/0) Black Panther

So whaddya think? Anyone brave enough to name someone other than Margot Robbie?

Margot Robbie is on a roll, but it will probably be someone less expected.

Dev Patel and Margot Robbie, while tremendous forces, are a little too obvious - I’m predicting Kristen Stewart, who has been putting the work in to rehabilitate her brand. She’s not chasing Oscar but if she’s in the right project in the right year, I could see it.

If there was any justice in the world, it would be Dev, and KStew...

I'm going off list with a safe bet - Saoirse Ronan. She is 25 right?

January 10, 2020 | Unregistered CommenterReady

Elizabeth Debicki, Margot Robbie, and Kristen Stewart seem most promising - if it's a guy I'd maybe guess Jack O'Connell.

I think if Elizabeth Debicki could get an Oscar if she gets a decent role. She is generally the best part of anything she's in, even against heavyweights like Viola Davis and Leo DiCaprio.

Robbie to the side: I believe Elizabeth Debicki, Jack O'Connell & Dev Patel will be working very hard to make their mark in Oscar history and getting a(nother) nomination under their belt - win... maybe later

Emory Cohen is very good -and with a lot of extra weight- in the Roger Ailes miniseries.

I hope Dev Patel. I suspect none of them.

January 10, 2020 | Unregistered CommenterScott

Think : Robbie.

Hope : O’Connell, but he’ll probably do an Oldman and win in years and years.

Margot Robbie
Dev Patel

Lawrence and Robbie will be around for awhile with nominations.

Debicki and Skarsgard seem the most likely, both in Supporting work.

Stewardt and Pattinson might have a long wait, although they're on the right track, to cover for "Twilight". The Price of Fame!

Emory Cohen was so charming and cute in Brooklyn. I don’t know him from anything else though.

JJaw 4th nom for JOY was not included with the other 3 noms

Elizabeth Debicki.
Ain't no one is predicting Watson for anything other than Kids' Choice Awards.

January 10, 2020 | Unregistered CommenterFadhil

I agree with Ready. Saoirse Ronan seems like a good bet.

Apart from Margot Robbie, the top 3 most likely within the next 10 years:
1. Kristen Stewart
2. Emma Watson
3. Dev Patel

Darkhorse pick: Jack Lowden. Some seriously rave reviews for his stage work. Sorta reminds me of Eddie Redmayne but he's from the next cohort of British actors (the post-History Boys if you wish)

Emma Watson might be closer than we think. Working since childhood, global recognition, part of a beloved and critically acclaimed franchise and when that was over worked with Coppola, Aronofsky, and Gerwig. I agree that she hasn't quite proven herself to be as talented as some on this list, but she might be playing the game the best.

I know your focus is on actors born in 1990, but I would like to point out that The Weeknd and SZA join Jennifer Lawrence, Dev Patel, and Margot Robbie as previous Oscar nominees born that year.

January 11, 2020 | Unregistered CommenterBrevity

Aaron Taylor Johnson, obvi. ;)

January 11, 2020 | Unregistered CommenterHustler

Debicki? She’s a powerhouse. If Widows caught on more I think she would have been nominated. If she gets the right role(s), I think her career could really catch fire.

I like Stewart, but she’s had more misses than hits lately and she doesn’t have a ton of range. Not sure about her winning an Oscar.

What’s hilarious about all of this is how up-for-grabs it all is. Back in the 80’s, it felt like a given that Weaver, Pfeiffer, and Close would win. Who’d have that that Kim Basinger would have ended up an Oscar winner and those three women wouldn’t?

January 11, 2020 | Unregistered CommenterJJM

Hmm. Can’t say that I miss Jennifer Lawrence. What a bunch of baloney that she has four nominations. I am very fond of Emma Watson.

January 11, 2020 | Unregistered CommenterJono

Aaron Taylor-Johnson is 30 and I'm not taling about age...

January 11, 2020 | Unregistered CommenterMae West

Emma Watson will occasionally pull out a performance that makes me think she could win one day (Perks of Being..., Bling Ring). However, my money is on Margot Robbie, Kristen Stewart and Elizabeth Debicki.

January 11, 2020 | Unregistered CommenterMJ

Jesus, I am turning 30 in 2020. Thanks for reminding me.

January 12, 2020 | Unregistered CommenterLuke

I don’t love Jennifer Lawrence but I cannot imagine the argument that she’s a lesser actress than Emma Watson. Who btw has had just as many misses as Kirsten Stewart and none of the arty cred. She won’t be nominated ever and I wouldn’t be surprised is she moved away from acting.
