Link vs Link
• The Guardian ranks the best "Vs" movies after the success of Godzilla vs Kong. Really fun list
• /Film You've probably heard by now that Rian Johnson scored a massive deal for his Knives Out sequels. They'll be going to Netflix for um... $400 million. Daniel Craig will be reprising his role for new mysteries.
• AV Club Edward James Olmos talks about his "random roles" in this always engaging series
More after the jump including Lil Nas X, Olivia Colman, Kung Fu, Thandiwe Newton, and new projects from Sam Mendes and Alex Garland...
• NYT Kung Fu debuts tomorrow on the CW and here's an article about how rare it truly is
• Out Lil Nas X goes to number one with "Montero (Call Me By Your Name)" named after a certain movie you love
• Deadline Olivia Colman will lead Sam Mendes next film Empire of Light, a love story set in the 1980s
• Coming Soon the previously obsessively coordinated MCU might be a mess right now with new series and ever shifting theatrical plans but Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 has started filming
• British Vogue long time film and tv star Thandiwe Newton (Crash, Westworld) is speaking out about her life and career. And will now be credited as "Thandiwe" the original spelling of her name, going forward.
• Towleroad Diablo Cody has completed the Madonna biopic script and "moved on"... will there be rewrites? Who knows!
• Broadway World The Little Mermaid (live action version) will begin shooting early this summer at both Pinewood studios and on the island of Sardiniaa
• Coming Soon Jennifer Jason Leigh, stepping in for Al Pacino apparently, will lead the second season of Nazi-hunting show Hunters with Logan Lerman reprising his co-lead role
• THR ICYMI they interviewed the nominated producers of Judas and teh Black Messiah and Ryan Coogler reveals he declined Academy membership when he was invited years ago. (He doesn't vibe with art being competitive)
• /Film Alex Garland is starting production on his third film, Men, with Jessie Buckley and Rory Kinnear starring. He's two for two so far with Ex Machina and Annihilation behind him. Early plot descriptions are super vague 'a woman on a solo vacation after her ex-husband's death' but if his first two films are indication it will lean into genre somehow.

Get that money Rian!
Montero is 100x better than Call Me By Your Name the movie.
Re: Alex Garland, really three for three. Devs is amaaaaaazing.
Bertrand Taverner died and you haven't said a word.
Beautiful Thandiwe is tied with Kiki Dunst, on my book, in the “very talented actress never nominated for an Oscar” category. I would give her at least two: actress for Besieged and supporting for Beloved. Also, she’s one of the few good things about Crash.
I don’t know at all about that Madonna biopic. The subject is co writing and directing... david Fincher should direct and come full circle from his music video says with her. who better to direct than him?
excited about the colman news!
Marcel, has he mentioned Larry McMurtry passing yet either?
I still don’t get what is so good about Lil Nas X. The new video is atrocious too.
Olivia Colman seems so kind. Her reactions to Corrin and Youn's Globe and SAG wins, respectively, were great.
@DAVID-
The idea of David Fincher directing Madonna's biopic is so meta and I'm here for it!
Wasn't there a Madonna biopic script that was featured on The Blacklist as one of the ten best unproduced screenplays floating around a few years ago? How about we go back to that. Madonna (who I love) writing and directing her own life story is a horrendous idea.
I absolutely love the idea of another adventures of Benoit Blanc. That's the franchise and universe we deserve (not whatever Kenneth Branagh is trying to do by tarnishing Agatha Christie's literary masterpieces) and perfect spot for Daniel Craig in his post-Bond career. At the same time I'm slightly disappointed that those films apparently won't arrive to theaters because "Knives Out" was one of my favorite movie-going experiences... ever! Absolutely delicious movie and well-deserved screenplay nomination.
The trend of actors reclaiming their original names have been so heartening. Very happy for Thandiwe!
Apparently that $400million+ deal includes $100million EACH for Johnson, Craig and another producer. Wowsa!
I've had "Montero (Call Me By Your Name)" stuck in my head since it came out last week. I just adore how unabashedly out and queer Lil Nas X is.
One knives out movie was too much
Is it too much to ask that Madonna not have a part in the Madonna biopic?
Any Colman news is good news!
