Cannes Red Carpet Finale: Tilda, Adèle, Regina, Sharon, Gemma...
by Nathaniel R
As the 74th annual Cannes Film Festival recedes into the past, can we all agree that even after all these years, Tilda Swinton remains the most exciting red carpet icon? Consider that she chased that blue eye ribbon, with a frankenstein-pieced metallic look and an exquisitely tailored blue suit, then a red dog collar, and to close out the festival went with this cavalcade of androgynous billowing white pieces.
And because her face deserves exquisite fashion, too, she paired them with a different improbably shaped hairdo each time for good measure. She always keeps us guessing. The only thing you can safely predict about Tilda at each event is that she'll be memorable.
More final Cannes '21 looks after the jump...
Who was your best dressed at the closing ceremony?
Adele Exarchopolous?
Gemma Chan?
Sharon Stone?
Rosamund Pike?
My personal vote goes to Gemma Chan. She literally took my breath when I first saw her.
And who do you think slayed hardest at the AmFar Gala...
Maria Bakalova
Rachel Brosnahan?
Regina King?
Sharon Stone?
And because men always get such short shrift in fashion roundups a few more of them from the fest though we're not sure which dates or events these are from beyond Lee Byung-hun's closing ceremony look (right)
Josh O'Connor
Kingsley Ben-Adir
Lee Byung-hun
We would definitely share more male celebs at film festivals if it were easier to find full length pics of their outfits... but fashion blogs mostly ignore them and mainstream and movie sites generally only post their torsos or shoulders up photos.
Now a moment of grief that we've got nearly a two month fashion drought before the movie stars glam up again at the Venice Film Festival (Sept 1st-11th) followed by the Met Gala (September 13th)

Gemma Chan, though these are all pretty good. No What WERE They Thinking? choices here.
Now the only thing I can imagine is Catherine Tramell & Amy Dunne together in a movie. Please, Hollywood, make it happen.
Tilda Swinton in her basic and plain version - always elegant. I think that's how she dresses when she goes to the grocery store).
Gemma Chan is dressed for the Globes, not Cannes.
Rosamund Pike is the guest in the wrong party.
Maria Bakalova and Rachel Brosnahan - I'd swap their dresses.
Adele Exarchopolous is sexy, hot and not vulgar(gee, I'm sounding like my great-grandmother here, sorry...)
The Best are Sharon Stone and Regina King - both better than never as always.
Adele Exarchopolous wooooonderful. Made me clean my screen twice!!! Hmmmmmm...
REGINA KING is rightfully named - she is a regal queen!
TILDA. That is all.
Looking at Maria Bakalova, all I can think about is if she was able to go to more red carpet events or talk shows and be more visibly seen, and not just on a Zoom call, could she have gotten more press or buzz for her nomination? For that matter the same question applies to Amanda Seyfried and Vanessa Kirby, who both put efforts into their looks for the televised ceremonies, but again Zoom just kind of cancels that out. I still think Youn wins the award (she had the best performance) but maybe it would be a closer race.
Maria Bakalova is AMAZING. Hope she gets back to the oscars soon.
What MJC said - Regina King!
Wow... everyone looks great. Except for Sharon Stone. She's aged badly. Jeanne Triplehorn on the other hand still looks great.
I worked with Tilda on a film this year and can confirm she always looks a million dollars. A fashion icon for our time, and of all time.
Sharon Stone everytime,She has never looked better.
Those Tilda bedsheet outfits do nothing for me.
I feel bad that Tilda doesn't really excite me these days. Now Sharon Stone and the possibility of he nabbing another great role? That keeps me interested!
Really, ALL the MEN and LADIES look great. Regina King looks majestic, and Sharon Stone, for my money, cannot look bad. Even as she ages, she always looks terrific!!! I love Josh O'Connor's salmon suit!!!
Looks like laundry day at the Swinton household.
Amy from Camus, you're such a card!
