Casting: Austin Butler as Feyd Rautha in 'Dune Part Two'

by Nathaniel R

Twink Wars 2023

In what surely must be a sign that Warner Bros is very happy with Baz Luhrmann's forthcoming Elvis, Austin Butler is now reportedly in talks to play the cunning Feyd Rautha, in their pricey franchise installment Dune Part Two. (Earlier online rumors had suggested Barry Keoghan was in the mix). Dune Part Two is due in theaters in October 2023 so filming starts later this year. Florence Pugh is also joining the sequel...

Sting as "Feyd Rautha" in Dune (1984)

For those who are unfamiliar, Feyd is the nephew of Baron Harkonnen and our hero Paul Atreides's deadly rival. In the David Lynch version Baron Harkonnen was creepy-thirsty for his nephew Feyd Rautha, played by Sting as a hot piece in a sci-fi speedo. One assumes that this time there won't be the incestuous vibe and that Feyd Rautha will be both bald and fully clothed in Villeneuve's much less sexually charged rendering of the Dune-iverse. In the Villeneuve pictures the House of Harkonnen has a very specific look so we can assume that look for Butler too, despite his impressive hair which would otherwise be perfect for a floppy haired Twink War with Timothée Chalamet.

Are Harkonnen's naturally bald or do they all do it to look like the Baron?

Does Austin look anything like his future screen uncle (Stellan Skarsgård) or screen brother (Dave Bautista)? Nope! But Hollywood movies have rarely been concerned with family resemblance and presumably that bald pate, black garb, and pasty white make up will do a lot to fill in the family resemblance gaps.

That's the problem with Villeneuve's DUNE: No kink.

Ugghhh. This is just Warners promoting Warners. Damn it. Keoghan would seem just right.

Mick Jagger was supposed to play Feyd Rautha in Jodorowsky's version of Dune which would've been very interesting. I hope Butler can pull it off.

Have heard nothing but the highest praise for Butler from friends who worked on the Elvis production. If he lands the role, sounds like a great get!

Lucas Hedge would have been a much much better choice. Or Mike Faist for that matter
