April Foolish Pt 5: Best Supporting Actress Possibilities

One thing years of doing the Supporting Actress Smackdown has reminded us of is that though the Academy is sometimes more adventurous with supporting nominations as opposed to leads (in that they'll consider eccentric performances or comic ones slightly more often) they still don't veer too far from their comfort zones of drama, prestige adaptations, heavy tears and the like. But how cool would it be if the Academy really let loose, did something atypical and catapulted themselves into the multiverse ala Everything Everywhere All At Once and found a universe where they would awards stuff like Jamie Lee Curtis's very game, vanity-free, and quite hilarious performance as a IRS auditor. In this same alternate universe they might be more drawn to Nicole Kidman's wilder artistic impulses which are reportedly on display in the backhalf of The Northman, but which they've ignored at the Academy since forever. In the same category of potentially provocative characters, we're on pins and needles wondering what Greta Gerwig will do with her "Babette" role in White Noise.

We're also hoping Whoopi Goldberg (Till), Audra McDonald (Rustin), and Hong Chau (The Whale) have great roles though obviously their parts in these projects could be more tiny and decorative, too. It's all blindfolded conjecture at this point though Lily Gladstone (Killers of the Flower Moon), Michelle Williams (The Fabelmans) and Samantha Morton (She Said) feel like solid bets this far out. Honestly, at this point, Yeoh, Quan and Curtis should all be in the top 10 and Hsu and Hong in the top 15... as i have said somewhere, if A24 is smart in campaigning, they would start right away lobbying for an Honorary Oscar to James Hong, and double dip in Yeoh, Quan and Curtis' extremely strong narratives for Oscar wins...

Michelle Williams seems like the most obvious nomineee based on role director and Oscar history plus she's a lead in Showing Up.

JLC has been buliding legend and career momentum for a few years now and this is a roll that pops and is going to be hopefully the film that lasts throughout the year till Oscar time.

Is Paul Shrader's Mother Gardener coming out this year starring Oscar Isaac if so Sigourney Weave has the catalyst wealthy matriarch role that could give her ample oppurtunities and be back in the conversation/

I have a feeling Goldberg wil be cameoing ditto Audra

Let's hope Gladstone gets the nomination she should have got 5 years ago

It'd be great if Morton could find herself a nominee but I think Kazan will be defrauded into supporting.

2023 3 movies Margot Robbie is likely to pop up somewhere and is very popular right now

I think Thompson has more chances in her other films lead role, reviews say career best

I've read Sigourney Weaver's name and I had to google the movie. IMDB says it's in post-production. I know everybody said that about Glenn Close, but if Sigourney Weaver gets a nomination she will surely win. She has the whole Avatar machine working for her, too.

OMG, this info made me excited. Ans she had that abortion drama in Sundance, too.

At least on paper, I like the chances of Robbie, Morton, Williams, Chau, and Kirby.
