Box Office: Venom, A Star is Born, and new records for Crazy Rich Asians

by Nathaniel R

What did you see over the weekend? Both Venom and A Star is Born opened to big numbers making it a strong start to October box office. While Venom isn't as likely to hold as well (lower Cinemascore, terrible reviews, and no awards season to maintain interest) both are already hits. More after the jump...

What did you see this weekend?

by Nathaniel R

While there were solid debuts in wide and limited release friday (The House with the Clock In Its Walls, Fahrenheit 11/9, Colette, The Sisters Brothers) it was a rough weekend for wide release newbies Assassination Nation and Life Itself, neither of which managed a top ten showing. But the best news was surely the solid hold from Paul Feig's wildly entertaining comic thriller A Simple Favor. You have to see those nutsy bold performances from both Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively for yourself. I had a blast and I'm going again with another friend soon.

Weekend Box Office: The Predator, The Wife, and More...

by Nathaniel R

I'm eager to get back to regular moviegoing. I love festival season but being so far ahead of the game has drawbacks. Unlike most pundits/critics/bloggers whatever you want to call people, I don't especially like the system of the media seeing movies months before the public. Mostly because I like actually discussing them with you! So when it comes to regular releases you're probably ahead of me. Have you seen A Simple Favor  or Predator or The Nun or Peppermint or White Boy Rick or Lizzie? It's easy for us at TFE to miss films that open in theaters during the heat of festival season.

And now the box office charts of the weekends with links to our reviews and such if they exist...
