Top of the Oscar Morn' To Ya

7:43 AM Today's the day we find out what those 6,000 showbiz people were thinking as they filled out there ballots. Or even if they were thinking. I suddenly want to chuck out all my predictions and start over again. Oh jitters.

7:47 AM  I'm so nervous. 45 minutes whoooot

MO'NIQUE BABY

Mo'Nique laughs at a flubbed line

7:58 Who is awake? show of hands!

8:18 Okay, now I am showered, coffeed, fully dressed, if not quite mentally prepared for What Lies Ahead. The great unknown. Or maybe the known if they just follow the precursors this year. I'm suddenly feeling Sam Rockwell (?) and wishing i hadn't predicted a Kunis snub.

8:28 I don't think i've ever watched The Early Show but they only had it in them (the anchors) for crossing their fingers for The Social Network and The King's Speech. What imaginative calls! Clearly the female anchor doesn't go to the movies she made a convenient "i'm still watching. i can't say" comment which means I officially shun her. That'll show her.

will Gosling & Williams both make it?

8:33 Ugh. I hate Ben Lyons so much. Switched to E! and he's talking about the Academy "FINALLY getting younger." Maybe he doesn't know that the age statistics remain about the same all the time with the acting nominations. They like the women young, the men middle aged. That's always the way it's been and they way it'll stay. As we've discussed many a time. The only way this year is "younger" is the hosts and IF eisenberg, franco and gosling are all nominated in lead actor. That would definitely be a young Best Actor lineup even with Firth & Bridges involved.

8:34 "some movies you feel" they will not stop with these King's Speech commercials.

C'mon Nicole! At the very least we need another excuse to see her get her fashion mojo back on the red carpet.

January 25, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterMick

damn straight! Tho' if they snub her they'll surely ask her to present.

January 25, 2011 | Registered CommenterNATHANIEL R

It's so exciting, can't wait. 40 mins left. I'm really looking fw to the acting categories.

January 25, 2011 | Unregistered Commentervg21

I will allow the Best Picture category to consist of all the Golden Globe Comedy/Musical category as half of the field just for a Jacki Weaver nomination. Also technically we're 6 minutes into Australia Day down here, so it is only fitting AMPAs please.

January 25, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterTim B.

I Am! I Am! I left work early because of this! xD It's 3 P.M here in Tel Aviv

January 25, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterZiZo Ziyad

Lots of real Love for Blue Valentine..Please.(weeping)

January 25, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterChand

I'd like some Blue Valentine love but I fear a shut out. A Dogtooth foreign film nomination would also be crazily great.

I would prefer a Hershey nomination but perhaps a double dip is on the cards - Hershey and Kunis or will they cancel each other out?

Due to the category confusion, I can't see Manville making it.

I wouldn't be too bothered if Kidman missed out for Rabbit Hole - typically strong performance but no Dogville/Birth/Margot...then again, due to these previous misses, she is easily deserving of a 3rd nomination. As long as Swank doesn't make the cut!

January 25, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterBurning Reels

It's 2pm in Paris, so I guess I'm up.

January 25, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJulien

It's just gone midnight here. So excited/nervous/burlesque.

January 25, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterGlenn

Additionally, a Julianne Moore nomination would be lovely - it's about time Oscar recognised two great leading performances in the same category again.

January 25, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterBurning Reels

I am up (its 1pm here), hoping for Gosling and Hershey to surprise, nothing else matters at this point

January 25, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterRami

burning reels -- if there had only been a *bit* more Moore buzz i'd be predicting her. It wouldn't shock me though.

I'm hoping for lots of surprises -- as long as eisenberg, kidman dont end up as surprise snubs.

January 25, 2011 | Registered CommenterNATHANIEL R

It's great being on the East Coast for this. I (embarrassingly) used to wake up at 5:30 Pacific.

January 25, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterAnthonyDC

Hello from Greece ! 15:18 local time...

January 25, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterHomer

let's see we got Greece, Australia, east coast, london, paris, tel aviv. THE FILM EXPERIENCE is totally international and don't ya forget it.

January 25, 2011 | Registered CommenterNATHANIEL R

Almost 12.30AM for me... So sleepy!!!

January 25, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterAnthony Mai

I am totally freak out. No Love for Gosling nor Williams. I am going to past out.

I would pick Hershey over Kunis. Hershey left great impact on the movie, she made who nina was.

January 25, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterChand

Had a very Ghost Writer-esque dream last night. Not sure what it was about, but the visuals were all deserted streets and off-season beaches. Probably not a sign, but willing to interpret it as such retroactively.

January 25, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterMarsha Mason

I have this sinking feeling Swank might get a 'surprise' nod. I hope I am wrong

January 25, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterRami

13:21 in Portugal! Lunching while waiting for the nominations

January 25, 2011 | Unregistered Commenterzigtai

A Brazilian out of Germany hoping for Kunis to be picked up - and for 127 hours to be included in Best Picture. And Nat all the way (well she's won the Oscar already, at this point...)

January 25, 2011 | Unregistered Commentermarcio

I'm at work here in Norway, but I hope nobody will disturb me now.

Ryan and Michelle!

January 25, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterBurning Reels

Marsha i love you -- GO RETROACTIVELY IMPORTANT DREAMS

January 25, 2011 | Registered CommenterNATHANIEL R

YEEEEEEEES GO GREEEECE!

January 25, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterHomer

Chris Nolan must have done something really bad in his past life.

January 25, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterLucky

couple seconds to go.....gosling and michelle....

January 25, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterChand

Well done Lucky, Hawkes got in!

Shame about the Julianne Moore snub but that is one strong Best Actress field - very happy for Michelle Williams.

Not seen Biutiful yet - is Bardem deserving?

January 25, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterBurning Reels

The Illusionist! Go head, Academy, with your token "art" nomination in this category.

January 25, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterOtherRobert

No Nolan is ABSURD. What is wrong with the director's branch? The Coens, really?

January 25, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterDean

Representinnnnnn'. I couldn't sleep AT ALL. Still prayin' for a Steinfeld snub so Kunis, Weaver, and Michelle Williams can get in their respective categories..

January 25, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJonathon

John Hawkes. Sad for the garfield snub, but Hawkes makes up for it. Very sad for Kunis snub, and not even any Hershey.

Was I the only 1 predicting Dogtooth??? Itbwasn;t on the longlist for nothing Yeehaw

January 25, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterBroooooke

No Nolan in director. toldyaso.

January 25, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterArkaan

DOGTOOTH!!!
Thought Another Year might have snuck in after the screenplay nod.

January 25, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterAlex BBats

I predicted the Coens (True Grit peaking at the right time, etc) but I thought they were going to get in instead of O'Russel or maybe Aronofsky...

January 25, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterLucky

And Jackie Weaver sneaked right in! You go, girl!

So... How do we feel about the foreign category?

January 25, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJulia

I Am Love recieved a costume design nom - excellent news!

January 25, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterBurning Reels

Michelle!!! Bardem!!!!! Ruffalo!!!!!

Sooooooo happy for Michelle, sad Ryan didn't make it!

January 25, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterAmanda

SHAME: No Nolan. Very sad! And no Gosling. Damn it! No Manville... hmmm.
PROUD: BARDEM! Yes. WILLIAMS! Yes. HAWKES and WEAVER! WOW!

January 25, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterFaux

Am bummed about the Garfield snub. WInter's Bone is the next thing due in my Netflix Queue, so am looking forward to it even more now. And seriously...who at the Academy did Chris Nolan piss off????

January 25, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterKim

The rest of the noms are up at Oscar.com. Yes for I Am Love in Costumes. Yes for Bansky (no for Waiting for Superman). Yes for Trent Reznor. No for any Burlesque song.
