I admire the concept of this poster but I think more of her face should have been showing for aesthetic reasons before it began to bled into the Parliament. As it is it's weirdly torn up. But perhaps you'll feel differently. You'll tell me, won't you?

Gold Derby Remember how weird it was when Mad Men lost everything but Best Drama at the Emmys on Sunday. Turns out it's not so weird.
The Critical Condition loves the new drama Revenge which features the return of the wonderful Madeleine Stowe. So do I and I only watched it to see Stowe again. Interesting that he brings up Ringer in his review because the whole time I was thinking: how come Sarah Michelle Gellar couldn't get a decent expensive show like this to headline? Ringer is just a mess and she's a much bigger star than Emily VanCamp.

His debut (scripted) feature Weekend, is a real wow, beautifully observed, well acted, consistently engaging and expressively shot... all the things that no-budget gay cinema usually lacks. There's more to this interview since our conversation spilled over past our alloted time so I might share a few more nuggets later on if I see cause. I'm hoping the film does well on the coasts and prompts further expansion. It's very good.

I too hope the Weekend does well enough to grace a theatre near me. I like the poster, but it's tonally completely different from the trailer which makes me wonder if those marketing this film are talking to each other.

For all rooting for Streep's third statuette: has anyone considered once she receives it the Academy will cease to nominated her as frequently?

I would be a happy fan with Streep getting a 3rd Oscar even if she gets fewer nominations.
Agree about SMG. Not sure why she wasn't given something more with all her goodwill in the TV community. But I have to say, I've been disappointed by her acting. What happened to the sassy chick from Buffy and Cruel Intentions? She's pretty bland and vanilla on Ringer.
Madeleine Stowe makes me want to watch it now. What's odd is that as soon as I saw the ad for Revenge, I didn't notice her (if she's even it), but it made me think of the movie of the same name that she starred in with Kevin Costner.

If I were an alien who didn''t know anything about Streep or Thatcher, looking at that poster I'd think it's an episode of Doctor Who where an evil Streep/Thatcher invades the British Parliament and controls the government. Exterminate, exterminate!
Regarding her possibilities of winning a third Oscar, I think that if there're things this quiz:

to guess which actresses have beaten Streep for an Oscar, her prospects aren't good. Basically, almost everyone has beaten her, including some of the most questioned oscars (Bullock, Foster...). To me it reads "anyone but you is our priority". Her best chances are à la Judi Dench, a flashy role in a BP nominee, preferably after she has semi-retired so that people can miss her.

If she gets the 3rd, they will start to honor younger actresses ... I think the idea behind this
lacking 3rd Oscar, is to keep her in the game... she does love her honors ( rightfully so ) and she has more than almost any other female... so Oscar campaigning has never been her "thing"... this year Harvey may change this .... I am still happier that Streep is getting the Kennedy Honor... if no Oscar, this honor to me is more prestigious.
That thing growing out of Mrs Thatcher's head is the Houses of Parliament where Members of Parliament from England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales legislate. As yet there is no such thing as the English parliament, although there is a Scottish one.
As someone who hates everything Thatcher (can't bring myself to call her Mrs, let alone Lady) stood for, the very idea of this film, and its tagline 'Never compromise' (God, if only she had) sends shivers down my spine. Though I'm sure Meryl Streep will do an excellent job.

I find it rather amazing how under wraps The Iron Lady really is. No one has seen it yet (no festivals), only a few photos, a short 30 second trailer and now this poster. The hype is building, so expectations are quite high now. I hope none of this hurts Streep's chances for Oscar. I'd love to see a new and longer trailer soon. BTW, I like the poster.

And I don't think a third win would stop Meryl from getting frequent Oscar nods. I think it's all on her in the end. Voters have proven that they will nominate her for reading the phone book, so it'll have to be her lack of interest in acting, non-baity roles, roles going to her peers, maybe a shift to theater or television, retirement, etc. for a lack of future Streep nods.
