It does get lonely out there if you don't like a universally beloved thing (like me with Forrest Gump/Braveheart. OMG I hate those movies). I never shared this tidbit from my family time away from the blog a few weeks back but my sister didn't like The Avengers at all. Sadly she didn't say why. It's so hard talking movies in depth with my family. They never explain themselves. Perhaps that's one of the reasons I talk out into the void via The Film Experience?

I didn't know where to post this, but I watched Magnolia last night, its been ages since the last time I saw it, and I remember the movie leaving me cold then, not now. I love it. Now the cool part I want to share with you Nathan Baby is my Julianne Moore revelation, and the reason why you love her so, she's picking up the slack that Pfeiffer drops when she takes sabbaticals, it actually scared me thinking about how interesting it would be to see Michelle in some of Julianne's filmography, and if she weren't shy about nudity, Boogie Nights and The Kids Are All Right.
The Academy simply giving Tom Cruise the film's only acting nomination reeks of laziness, H Macy and C Reilly deserved a seat at the supporting actor table that year too, and Moore in supporting actress. I don't know if anyone was prepared to enjoy this movie on first viewing, it demands revisits, there's so much going on in the narrative, and while most of the characters are unhappy you don't immediately know why until the point where you almost no longer care, you're simply letting the whole thing bathe over you.

It's been quiet a week for Pfeiffer pfans, with 'Eastwick's 25th, the premiere of People Like Us and almost unnoticed Batman Returns turned 20 today!
I think I might slip the DVD on and spend the night with Selina/Catwoman to celebrate.
The amount of time I spend telling people why The Avengers was "just okay" is mind blowing. I tell all of the worshippers to watch Firefly and Buffy immediately.
Joe -- yes. I've been so bad. Just not enough free time lately. Shoulda celebrated all of these events!
That grimaces piece was a keeper! Honestly, if "Mad Men" doesn't get an Emmy for acting this year I'll go mad as hell.

I have to admit the latter isn't as much cringe-inducing as that Zemeckis/Hanks monstruosity. And add I Am Sam and A Beautiful Mind to the list of movies I believe we both don't like.
About SMASH:
For the life of me, I can't understand how there's not a single person working on the SMASH writers' room that can see what EVERYONE outside of it sees: Katharine McPhee was ZERO charisma.
The woman is very beautiful, that's true. But to be the star shouldn't you be not only very talented (I'll admit she can sing) but also VERY CHARISMATIC? Are people blind?
Even Megan Hilty sobbing and going cuckoo with allucinations in that laryngitis episode has more charisma than McPhee will ever have. Not to mention she's a pro when she's performing.
Poor McPhee, must be awful to be the de-facto lead in a show being stolen from her under her nose.
Well, at least Ellis and Dev are gone. That alone may make me return to watch the second season of this mess.
But I'll only stay if they reduce Debra Messing's screen time.
I loved her on Will & Grace, but all her scenes are overly DRAMATIC - with capital letters. People running this show: go back and watch old 'Will & Grace' episodes, from the first seasons. You know, Messing can be a self-deprecating, egocentric drama queen and still be joyous and funny.
My friends didn't like the Avengers either. I haven't seen it, but they said they left the theater early....

The Forrest Gump/Braveheart/Pulp Fiction trifecta. Blech all around. Hate, hate, hate.
I can't hate Forrest Gump or Braveheart, We had about five or six vhs tapes we would watch on a Sunday at Nana's and they were two of them. Stand By Me was the most watched and loved of the videos though!!
Try having total indifference to the Joss Whedon canon! Blah.
I actually think most people hate Forrest Gump and Braveheart, but maybe it's just my circle.

I have never understood the fascination with Braveheart, a movie that's so painstakingly average it makes The Avengers look good in comparison (see what I did there...?)
My 'I guess it was ok' reaction to The Avengers is probably because I still believe that no one could top the Buffy/Angel/Firefly cast can do Whedonesque dialogue and fights. See also: Cabin in the Woods, although I liked Cabin better.
Also, I have no interest in seeing Braveheart even though my friends keep telling me about how it includes the campiest gay bashing scene ever.
Oh wow, I thought I was the only one that hated those movies until I met my friend Di. We were watching "Curious Case of Benjamin Button" and we were like there is something about this movie that really sucks and low and behold, written by the guy that did Forest Dump Cake. That movie is one of the biggest pieces of shit that I have ever seen. Thanks fellow haters.
