Happy Oscar Day !
The Oscars are just 3½ hours away. Arrivals in 2½. May you all hyperventilate with joy at least once tonight, when something or someone you truly love takes home a golden statuette.
What are you doing to get ready?
Are you throwing a party? Hosting one? Or watching alone in an apartment that is a freaking mess due to furniture delivery and various unfortunate events (*raises hand*)?
Are you able to attempt any normalcy today in the lead up?
Have a super fun night filled with blasts of euphoria... (and take five seconds to "like" the film experience page on facebook so you don't miss any of the after-excitement in March!). Do cheer wildly for your favorites. Do not however jump up and down on the furniture with excitement... unless your party host has expressly condoned it. Otherwise, it's rude.
Since we're talking Oscar Joy, I want you to point you to a virtual gathering at Nick's Flick Picks wherein Nick polled his closest critic friends to list their favorite Oscar wins throughout the years -- only one from each year allowed! I played along. See my list (off the top of my head so some of it might not hold true tomorrow) and the lists of Nick, Guy, Joe, Tim, Colin and Katey. Right now it's just 1996-2011 but there's more to come !
Merry Our Christmas. It's Oscar Night!
In case you're just joining us after weeks away (lame!) here's important tonight-related stuff you might have missed! And On To Next Year?
The Film Experience's annual "April Fools Predictions" will arrive on, when else, April 1st. The best 'year in advance' predictions anywhere on the web if I do say so myself (on that note the Weinstein Co. just picked up the Nicole Kidman vehicle Grace of Monaco and Quvenzhané Wallis just signed for a remake of the musical Annie). Until then March is Reader Appreciation Month with contests and interviews and "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" returns so stick around to get to know the TFE community and reminisce about great older films, this year's High Holy Night (coming right at'cha) and new springtime movies.

I'm having a small party of five like I do every year. As per usual, we've all written down our predictions, and we've each put $20 into a pool so the winner will be profiting $80. As I'm the only one of the people attending who is through and through a movie buff and who follows the Oscar buzz all year, I'm usually very confident about winning our little Oscar pool (I remain undefeated thus far), but it's definitely going to be a nail-biter this year.
I should note, however, that of the five people at my Oscar party, three of them (including myself) are picking Emmanuelle Riva for Best Actress. Not that I'm saying that means anything, but it's interesting that Team Lawrence is the minority at my party. Also, all five of us have different picks for Supporting Actor, which is crazy.
Edwin -- which just goes to show you ! (SUPPORTING ACTOR)
I wonder if Naomi and Nicole will end up facing off next year... two bio pics, should be interesting. Also, will JLaw return for Serena... Ah, the year ahead.
I had a little Oscar party planned as I do every year, but sadly that fell apart at the last minute. Whatever. I have my ice cream to keep me company. ;)
Traveling in Nashville with my parents, but I will be squarely parked in my hotel room to watch the show. Couldn't miss a year this crazy! I'll enjoy my party of one:)
Doing predictions with 4 friends over googledoc. Actress is split, Lawrence x 2, Riva x 2, and one brave soul predicting Wallis ("I saw her on CNN. She's so cute!")
Miraculously, all of them are predicting PSH. I've got Waltz but I really hope I'm wrong.
Happy movie Christmas!
I have 9 people coming over. Coppola bottles of wine to the winner of Oscar Bingo and to the best predictor. Specialty cocktails are "beasts of the southern comfort wild" and "mango unchained". Less creative on the food side: Life of Pizza Pi and Argo-choke dip. Movie candy and popcorn also served, with a red carpet leading from the steps of my complex to my door.
Happy watching, everyone!!
The Oscars start at 1am here, I have snacks and coffee! BRING IT!
My wife and I are hosting a small party with three friends. The food: Oscars (sausages wrapped in croissants and sprinkled with herbs de provence), Silver Linings cupcakes, chips and dip, wine, a Middle Eastern dish inspired by Argo and Zero Dark Thirty. And we're, of course, all filling out ballots. The guest (of our three) with the most correct picks tonight wins DVDs of Wings of Desire and Ride With the Devil.
As to next year: I'm expecting Steve McQueen to finally make a splash at the Oscars with Twelve Years a Slave.
jessica chastain's grandma is too young!
jackie weaver didn't bother listening to ryan seacrest. lol
Agony. In their infinite wisdom, the BBC elected some years ago to deprive us of Oscar Night. I've not forgiven them and don't intend to any time soon. No cable and no satellite either, so I'm utterly depending on you, Nat, to bring me the goodness.
I have no clue how this will play out. All I want is a wonderful, memorable ceremony with no result that makes my entire body cringe on behalf of the Academy. That's not such a lot to ask, now is it?
It's just me and the fiance, but it's the first time in many years that either of us has had a partner who loves the Oscars as much as the other, so we're happy. Unfortunately, she's not really feeling very well.
I assume next year Nicole is hitting the jackpot with the Weinstein Co. Wattts better watch out.
Wow, Grace of Monaco under Harvey could be really dangerous, no joke.
Harvey + Nicole + the role is like a perfect recipe, honestly.
It'll be interesting to see how that goes because, damn.
