FINALLY! I know one, and I'm not going to spoil it. But yes one of the best of that year, and the person of note deserved that nomination and distinction. I actually think that is one of the best Movie years. Powerful film.

But here's a hint expanding on Nate's hint -- the Oscar record has to do with direction.
And it is a great film in a great year.
Boyz n the Hood?
It made John Singleton the youngest nominated director.
Damn it I'm too late again!! Great film by the way.
LOOOOOVE those Singleton nominations. I might even have voted for him in either category, against stiff competition, and I wish the film had been up for Best Picture. 1991 would have been a great year for an expanded BP field.
Eh, I thought the pacing was just off on Boyz N The Hood. You know when you cut to them as adults? 25 minutes in. The way I see it, John Singleton had two options if he felt he had that much content for that section: 1. Cut the adult stuff, keep expanding the kid stuff and make "Black Stand by Me" or 2. Cut ten minutes from the child material and use that time to either add a bit more meat and texture to the adult material or just leave the stuff behind to tighten the pacing.
