"Extra" FYCs? Your Last Chance

OPEN THREAD
We hope you're the Year in Review thus far.  We've already suggested stocking stuffers, gawked at great fashion, stroked furry friends, and named the year's MVP. I'm still madly cramming movies into my eyeballs but have begun drafting the FiLM BiTCH AWARDS this site's long running Oscar alternative. I'm willing to listen to FYCs for any of the special categories and aiming for Monday December 29th to kick things off.

Any 2014 "Best" suggestions for... Line Reading? Action Sequence? Cameo? Kiss? Musical Sequence in a Non-Musical?  Sex Scene? Credits/Title? Scene of the Year?

P.S. If you're heading out early for Christmas festivities have a happy holiday. There wlll be many blog post presents under this tree to catch up with when you get back.

Have to give a shout out for the sex scenes in "Stranger By the Lake." The film received such a high score on RT yet doesn't seem to appear on many year-end lists. Erotic and a with a sense of dread

December 23, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterPatryk

Line Reading: Uma--"Would it be alright if I show the children the Whoring Bed?"

duh!

December 24, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterHenry

THE SKELETON TWINS - "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now" - Musical Sequence In A Non-Musical

GONE GIRL - "I'm the cunt you married. The only time you liked yourself was when you were trying to be someone this cunt might like. I'm not a quitter, I'm that cunt. I killed for you; who else can say that? You think you'd be happy with a nice Midwestern girl? No way, baby! I'm it. " Amy Dunne. Line reading of the year (Particularly if you also include "That's marriage." as well

MISS VIOLENCE - opening credits/title sequence of the year

A MILLION WAYS TO DIE IN THE WEST - Christopher Lloyd - Best Cameo

BEGIN AGAIN - "A Step You Can't Take Back" with the imagining of the instruments - Scene of the Year

EDGE OF TOMORROW - the battle - Action scene

THE FAULT IN OUR STARS - smooching in Anne Frank's house - (Inappropriate) Kiss of the Year?

UNDER THE SKIN - collecting the specimens/fuel. Sex scene of the year (yes, it is essentially a sex scene, I would argue)

December 24, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterTravis C

line reading - ralph fiennes (grand budapest hotel): "he's actually become a dear friend".

December 24, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterpar

This is not a category but perhaps it should be: best romantic payoff scene since sense and sensibility: the end of the way he looks.

Best line reading: anything tilda says says in snowpiercer. Also best villain.

Best scene: the reunion/bedroom scene in love is strange...also best sex scene

Musical sequence in a non musical: pride

December 24, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterMikey67

Best line readings:
- almost anything said by anyone to anyone in Only Lovers Left Alive and Birdman
- Ben Schnetzer and Dominic West have a few choice ones in Pride
- wish I had already seen Into the Woods, as I'm sure it offers a few options
- Tom Cruise's panic right before each reset

December 24, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterPaul Outlaw

I 2nd Hayden & mikey's sugestions. Uma & Tilda forever. Tilda's hat/shoe speech is the best '' know your place. Take your place. Be a shoe" & "this is size 10 chaos..'' I think obvious child is full of great line readings too! ''I'm going to mouthfuck the shit out of this burrito''

December 24, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterchoog

Oh and Lesley Mann, the highlight of 'The Other Woman' "I can't go to prison, I have soft hands and a small mouth, I'll definitely be a bottom"

December 24, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterchoog

Line Reading? " are you one of those single tear people?" (or any other sentence from that speech) - Whipash. no one teared a new asshole as well a JK simmons this year.
"My Motto is: if you win the lottery, you gotta make the money to buy a ticker" - so off-putting in just one sentence.
"SOMETHING COOL" - 22 jump street was all tatum.
"God's in the bathroom" - The Farewell Party.
Action Sequence? Quicksilver, Duh. Also, Yard Scene in The Raid 2. And the car chase in "The Lego Movie"
Cameo? Almost anyone in The Grand Budapest Hotel is great and basically a cameo to Finnes.
Vanessa Redgrave in Foxcatcher.
Musical Sequence in a Non-Musical? The Skeleton Twins and Pride, for sure but also guardians of the galaxy should get a nod. Also, the ending of "song of the sea" is just beautiful. and the family reunion in HTYD2. and "boxtrolls song".

December 24, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterGeorgeT

Best Action Sequence - any scene with a chase, FYC: sled chase in Grand Budapest Hotel, car chase in Lego Movie

Best Cameo (and best marketing for keeping the secret) - you-know-who in Interstellar

New category: Best Product Placement - REI in Wild

December 24, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterPam

scene of the year is def Amy/Desi having sex.... and line reading "that's marriage"... both from Gone Girl.

December 24, 2014 | Unregistered Commentermurtada

Yes to Uma's line reading and the Skeleton Twins musical sequence! Also Jennifer Lawrence singing in Mockingjay for musical sequence.

Action Sequence: Quicksilver's big scene in X-Men

Line-reading: Anything Jillian Bell says in 22 Jump Street like "Oh my God! Did you just get shot? Like, right after I fucking said that?" or "Dad, those are like old people drugs. Just like what they did on The Golden Girls. Like Blanche did heroin."

December 24, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterRyan

Musical Sequence in a non-musical: Pride and/or Skeleton Twins should win this hands down, but also consider Star Lord's impromptu dance towards the end of GoTG.

December 24, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterRyan T.

Don't start a new Film Bitch Awards before telling us who won best actor last year!

December 24, 2014 | Unregistered Commentercal roth

Best Musical Sequence in a Non-Musical/Best Credits Sequence: Star Lord listens to his mixtape in Guardians of the Galaxy

Best Cameo: OMG YES Christopher Lloyd in A Million Ways... Probably the single biggest laugh I've had in the movies all year. (Also, Charlize is VERY underrated in this and NPH has a lot of brilliant line readings.) And Sela Ward/Missi Pyle in Gone Girl.

Best Line Reading: "I. Am. Groot," and just about anything Bradley Cooper says as Rocket in Guardians of the Galaxy. And this double from Birdman: "Why don't I have any self-respect?" "Oh, sweetie... You're an actress!" Probably THE line of the year, really.

Scene of the Year: Tilda's first Monologue in Snowpiercer

December 24, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterdenny

ALSO: Quicksilver's "Time In A Bottle" rearranging is EASILY the best scene of the year, singlehandedly saving the character and making the superhero movie FUN again.

December 24, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterdenny

Best Musical Scene: "Hal" (Only Lovers Left Alive)

Best Supporting Actor: Jonathan Pryce (Listen Up Philip)

Best Original Score: Mica Levi (Under the Skin)

Best Cinematography: Robert Elswit (Nightcrawler)

Best Line Reading: "YOU NEED TO BE MORE FRIENDLY!" (The Lego Movie)

Best Cameo: Christopher Lloyd (Sin City: A Dame to Kill For)

Best Ending: Only Lovers Left Alive

Best Misc Scene: Entering the wormhole (Interstellar)

Diva of the Year: Batman (The Lego Movie)

December 24, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterMikadzuki

Line Reading - Patricia Arquette's Boyhood line reading of "I thought there would be more" kills me

Action Sequence - Birdman's explosion/giant bird scene

Cameo - I feel like Viola Davis was borderline cameo in The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby, but I liked her in it (William Hurt too)

Kiss - I thought Joe's first kiss in Pride during the speech at the dance was a surprisingly touching moment

Musical Sequence in a Non-Musical - Everything is Awesome (but The Skeleton Twins and Pride are great picks too)

Sex Scene - I like the Under the Skin, Gone Girl and Stranger By the Lake suggestions. I'll go with the confusing sex scenes in The One I Love.

Credits/Title - Big Hero 6 had some cute ones. I liked the Captain America credits too.

Scene of the Year - Amy and the hospital room of policemen in Gone Girl; the closing scene of Pride; the classroom sequence in Snowpiercer; the voicemail being left in Obvious Child; and of course, the terrible Nightcrawler scene where he walks through the murder victims' mansion.

Watson in Theory of Everything (so angry at this)
Rudolph in Inherent Vice
Manville in Mr. Turner

December 24, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterMr. Goodbar

Cameo: Patricia Clarkson in Annie. What a welcome addition to that film!

Kiss: the first kiss in The Way He Looks

Line Reading: Tilda and Uma are great picks as above. Also, "Have you ever been questioned by the authorities... Well, you know the drill then. Zip it!" --Ralph Fiennes in The Grand Budapest Hotel

Scenes (I had to invent names): "Baby by the Shore" in Under the Skin (most shocking), "Riggan and his daughter Sam after the show" in Birdman (talkiest, in a good way / up-close-and-personal acting), The Ending to Stranger by the Lake (scariest), "Night at the Dam" from Night Moves (tensest), The Avalanche in Force Majeure (most integral)

Musical Scene in a Non-Musical: "Nothing Can Stop Us Now" from The Skeleton Twins. This is the "Gravity in Visual Effects" of the Film Bitch Awards this year.

December 24, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterEvan

Best Cameo - Hilary Swank's hone made piano in The Homesman
Best production design - Wild,Dern's kitchen is so character specific
Best limited role - Michael Hyatt in Nightcrawler and her line reading "it would be murder"
Best line reading - Swank The Homesman "we make a good team you and i"
Worst line reading - anything that comes out of Watts garbled crime against accents in St Vincent
Best ending - Kristen Stewarts bus ride in Camp Xray
Cinematography - Mr turner
Best scene - Cotillars prayer in The immigrant.
Best cameo - Afflecks penis in Gone girl
Best line reading - Moore in PTTS - "Hathaway how's that gonna work"
Best scare - Under the skin into the black goo.

December 24, 2014 | Unregistered Commentermark

Best Cameo: Affleck's penis

December 24, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJ. Garner

Best end credits: Captain America Winter Soldier. The animated, Jim Steranko-inspired pop art sequence was a fitting wrap-up to this sequel which was more in tune with the spy/espionage elements of the Cap character.

December 24, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterTravis

Best Line Reading: Anything from Miles Teller's dinner table monologue in Whiplash. A great piece of writing!

Best Cameo: Jerry Seinfeld and/or DMX from Top Five

Best Musical Sequence in a non-musical: John Lithgow and Alfred Molina celebrating their now legal and beautiful marriage over a piano with friends and family in Love is Strange

Best Action Sequence: I don't see many action films (not my interest, and I don't know if this counts) but I would say Michael Keaton's character getting locked out of the theater and trying to find an entrance by running through Times Square in "tighty whities." The coolest scene of the year in my opinion.

Title: Ida; I love the way the films begins: very quiet, classic

Best Kiss: John Lithgow and Alfred Molina kissing each other in a bunk bed; it's funny, touching, and very authentic. At that moment, in almost complete destitution, they have this insatiable love for one another

Best Sex Scene: Chris Rock and Cedric the Entertainer; a scene with two "lovely ladies" in Top Five HILARIOUS!!! (or Rosario Dawson's character sticking a "hot" tampon in her closeted boyfriend :-)

Scene of the Year: The End of Foxcatcher; as someone who didn't know of the true story, I was completely shocked and horrified as the gun was fired, killing the most sane character in the film.

December 24, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterTory Smith

Best Musical Sequence in a Non-Musical: Hilary Swank in The Homesman tries to woo a suitor with homemade dinner and a song. So delicate and heartbreaking.

December 24, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterCameron

i feel like best line reading has to go to Ralph Fiennes in Grand Budapest, I enjoy "I'm afraid that's me, darling," when they ask, "who is Gustave H?" at the will reading, but there are a wealth of options.

The will reading is a contender for best scene, as is the final drum solo in Whiplash (though I know you don't like the movie). I would also nominate the scene with the kids and their father campaigning for Obama in Boyhood. I found that very amusing and realistic.

And I nominate Tilda for Best Cameo in Grand Budapest. She actually seemed like an elderly woman. Not all of that was makeup and hair. The cameo in jail in Top Five (I don't want to spoil it) is a good one as well - and a true cameo.

If there's a worst kiss, it should be that kiss between Watts and Riseborough in Birdman. Keep catering to your straight male audience!

December 24, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterSuzanne

Best scene: Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye (Maps to the Stars) or Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now (The Skeleton Twins)

December 24, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterSteve G

I agree with cal roth, Nat! Please add those remaining stars to the rest of your Film Bitch Awards from last year, if you can! ;)

December 24, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterBhuray

......And the other unfinished categories as well! LOL :) Pretty please!!??

December 24, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterBhuray

Probably cheating, but could the Line Reading be Viola announcing the title of her TV show? We say it here at work all the time.

And I second J. Garner for the Affleck Peen. Such Pretty Pretty!!!

December 24, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterforever1267

Chris Pine's line reading of "I was raised to be charming, not sincere" is an instant classic, and should be studied by actors playing that role for years to come.

December 24, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterColin

Sex scene to "Drunk In Love" in BEYOND THE LIGHTS, and musical sequence to "Private Property," easily.

December 24, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJason

Best musical sequence in a non-musical film: Dominic West's disco dancing scene in "Pride." Also, little Evan O'Toole breaking Reese Witherspoon's heart with a soulful rendition of "Red River Valley" in "Wild."

December 25, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterRaul

Scene of the Year: The first murder in Stranger By the Lake. Just saw it (FINALLY) via Netflix Instant and while the whole film is good, that scene (one glorious long take) is kind of brilliant. It must also compete in Sex Scene, obviously, and Sexpot of the Year (both Franck and Michel).

Also, Wild for Best Song Score. Loved how it flowed so naturally.

December 25, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterdenny

Tilda for Snowpiercer and Uma for Nymphomaniac.

And for best line reading, pretty much every single line reading they have in their respective films.

December 26, 2014 | Unregistered Commentergoran

Another great line reading:
Bill Nighy after the reporter asked him if he found it weird to have all the gays descend on him like that:
Why on Earth would I found that "weird"? - raises eyebrow
