Thoughts I Had... While Looking at Cate Blanchett's 'Cinderella' Poster

- If you've got (1) Blanchett looking imperious, or better yet (2) Blanchett looking imperious in a fabulous hat, I'm already sold. I sort of hope the whole movie is just Cate posing with glacial elegance in an increasingly imposing series of chapeaux.
- Now that she's bagged Oscar #2, the time might just be right for her to try some camped-up villainy.
* pretending Indiana Jones 4 doesn't exist, pretending Indiana Jones 4 doesn't exist * - I love Cate as a redhead. Reahhhlly I do.
- And oh look, It's DAISEH from Downton Abbey! Hi, Daiseh! I stopped watching your show in season 2 but I think it's safe to say whatever Julian Fellowes is doing with you, you deserve better.
- Merciful heavens, the florals are strong with this one. Is that supposed to be what makes them wicked? A heavy hand with competing patterns?
- Something about the stepsisters being decked out in those bright shades of pink and yellow makes me think of the Power Rangers. I will now be taking volunteers to write the treatment for a Cinderella/Power Rangers crossover.
- The Oscar campaign for Most Costume Design 2015 starts now. Our gal Sandy Powell should start drafting gloriously blunt acceptance sound bytes now.
- Not sure what to make of the March release date. Certainly when a big studio picture with no major competition opens in March it has potential to take off into an enormous hit (à la Eyesore in Wonderland or Oz the Great and Powerful) but by that same token it's often where weaker films get sent when they can't hold up against the blockbusters..
What does this new poster bring to your mind?

It's a beautiful poster if not terribly imaginative. Perhaps the bright colors and floral patterns are designed to call attention to the early spring release date. Cate's hat is fierce!
cate's hat is like what would happen if OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL had had a clue with its Mila Kunis designs.
i'm not sure i understand the second sentence. The last Indiana JOnes movie was like 25 years ago.
joel6 - Annie Liebowitz was the photographer for the character posters, and I was as surprised as you by how relatively unimaginative they are considering that fact.
That said, Cate Blanchett in that Scarlett O'Hara hat is my everything and I am here for her epic ice queen glare.
Anne Marie--Ha! My first thought was "She's wearing Scarlett's curtains!". In other Disney news, the first full-length song from ITW was just released starring Cinderella (Anna Kendrick).

Sandy Powell is a freaking genius. All that pattern and you still have three perfectly framed faces to sell the characters. I actually think the "family portrait" pose works. Even without the headline, there would be no question who these characters are in the story.
Don't make anything of the March release date. As you noted, plenty of blockbusters are released now in the Spring. There have been numerous articles about how blockbusters have pushed their way beyond the summer months now, a trend allegedly started by either the Twilight series or Hunger Games series, most of which came out in the fall. Blockbusters have been getting released earlier and earlier before Memorial Day, too, so this is pretty much in line with the last 5-10 years.
Have you seen the poster for HBC as the good fairy godmother?
She so reminded me of the Spirit of Present Christmas from the movie "Scrooged".
Nothing against Cate, but I wished they'd cast Christine Baranski again for this role. She's perfection.
Slightly worried that Hollywood does not know what to do with Cate Blanchett in her 40's.
