Shanté, Link, You Stay.

The Playlist shares what is supposedly the first poster for Silencio -- which makes it look like a lesbian drama -- but it looks incomplete since it's not regular poster size and even looks a little square for the European quad size. Or do my eyes deceive me?
Interview talks to Gal Gadot the new Wonder Woman, with photos by Chris Colls. Let's hope Gal has some screen charisma to go with the beauty since her body type is so teensy-tiny for that Amazon princess.
Vogue and Nicole Kidman are really getting along, huh? Now she's talking about Fashion and Film at the Met. Plus she this bit about her Galliano/Dior at the Oscars that one time...

Madonna came up to me at the after-party saying ‘Best dressed, best dressed!"

AV Club comic book artist Annie Wu has created a superhero for all of us "General Dread."  This is, in a word, awesome
Rope of Silicon Miles Ahead to close NYFF this year - will it generate any Oscar heat?
Buzz Feed looks at that controversial doc Open Secret which has had a rough road to theaters
Cosmopolitan gets on the set stories from 5 extras in Magic Mike XXL
Film Stage new trailer and poster for The Assassin starring Shu Qi and Chang Chen
Forbes wonders whether Terminator Genisys and Mad Max Fury Road have been labelled "flop" and "hit" respectively despite the same box office tally and budget. Interesting observations about media power and biases but this ignores a fundamental... when it comes to previous grosses from their own franchises there's no other way to label them.

This story is a week old but I hadn't seen it and WTF?!? According to Variety, silent film genius FW Murnau's (Nosferatu, Sunrise) head was stolen from his grave early this month. Creepy!

Cast Them Queens!
RuPaul has announced the second RuPaul's Drag Race: All Stars season. He's even asked that people chime in on twitter with their dream lineups, so I did. Assuming they're only drawing from the three seasons that came after All Stars (though perhaps they'll go older than that) what would your picks be among these queens?  Will it be a coronation for Katya, Adore, Alaska Thunderf**k or someone else entirely?

Do you read Spanish? In his blog in El Deseo website, Almodóvar call this a poster teaser - not a teaser poster. I just don't see why would anyone would release something like a poster teaser.

And it's not a lesbian drama, since the two actresses play the same part. If you can consider that a hint of what the movie is gonna be, Almodóvar says the actresses have a Bergmanian attitude, what makes me thing of this poster as a Persona-inspired art.

Cal -- i must have clicked on his website too early or something because i checked and there was no posting about this "poster"

I'm not a Nicole obsessive like many here but Madonna is correct, that is one of my favorite Oscar dresses of all-time. The color is beautiful.

Not sure I see the point of a "poster teaser" when he's only half way through shooting. Such an attention hog, Almodóvar!

Anyway, the best part of that post in the El Deseo blog is his mention of Asghar Farhadi. He says they struck a friendship during the 2011 award season and Almodóvar's now planning to take part in the release of Farhadi's next film, which is set in Spain. Exciting stuff!

Carlos -- yup, we wrote about that.

although i wouldn't blame the poster teaser on Almodovar. it's getting worse and worse out there with film marketing what with all the "countdowns to teasers of teasers and 6 second teaser vinyls for weeks before a teaser which is weeks before a full trailer. it's SO ANNOYING.

My picks for RPDR: AS2 would be: Pandora Boxx, Manila Luzon, Latrice Royale (rectifying their early eliminations from the stupid team bs from AS1), Delta Work, Ongina, and Willam (not selected from the pool pre-AS1), Alaska Thunderfvck, Detox, and Ivy Winters from season 5, Courtney Act, Darienne Lake, and Joslyn Fox from season 6, and Katya, Trixie Mattel, and Max from season 7.

Nice, 15 contestant pull where everyone legit brings something to the table. Although I know the first 3 won't be selected, so still a nice group of 12 queens (although the cuts of Alyssa Edwards and Adore Delano are hard).

I could also be persuaded to watch an 'early elimination redemption' season since there are probably enough spread across the last 7 seasons to make it worthwhile.

Re: Terminator and Mad Max - relative expectations have a lot to do with it, but Mad Max also made a lot more of its money in the US, and a lot of entertainment reporters only look at domestic box office when declaring hits and flops.

You can also see this phenomenon when comparing Dreamworks Animation's last two films, Home and Penguins of Madagascar. Penguins, as of this writing, actually grossed $4m more worldwide than Home ($373m vs. $369m), but Home made a MUCH larger percentage of that in the US ($173m vs. Penguins $83m). And yet Home was covered as a surprise smash hit and Penguins was a near ruinous flop, to go by the media coverage.

Relative expectations (Penguins being a continuation of a popular franchise, Home not so much) combined with larger share of box office coming from the US = favorable media coverage.

Miles Ahead could be really good. Good for Don Cheadle for financing his own passion project. That dude just keeps plugging away. He's been nominated for the Best Comedy Actor Emmy 4 years in a row now but is there any other less-discussed Emmy nominee? Does anyone even watch that show?

July 23, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterDJDeeJay

PLEASE let All Stars 2 not be as lame as the first. I'd want a season 5-heavy cast: Detox, Alaska and Alyssa definitely.

July 23, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterBD

I'm looking forward to Miles Ahead with Don Cheadle and Emayatsy Corealdi (sp?). Cheadle has such a sharp presence, slides so quickly in a wide emotional range. I'm really interested in seeing what a smart guy like him finds fascinating about another artist.

AS2 is Alaska's to lose. As much as I love Katya (and many others likely to return), Alaska has been WERKING ever since she was on RPDR. Katya is probably still a bit too green to take the win here.

But here's hoping no teams. Cause that blew.

July 23, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterDominique

I still can't believe Raven lost season two *and* All-Stars. She's by far my favorite queen.

Anyway, bring on Ben de la Creme and Alaska Thunderfuck!

July 23, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterMareko

MILES AHEAD is truly the worst film title of the year. I've laughed so much at it. It's terrible.
