Uptown Link You Up

Guardian Amy Schumer taking up active role in fight for more US gun control
Variety in strange news MacBeth will be available to stream shortly after its December release
Empire Channing Tatum has only just now agreed to play Gambit in the upcoming superhero film. This is why i hate internet superhero culture. We've been hearing about this for about ten months. And he's only just made it official so now we get to hear about it again?
/Film Relativity's bankruptcy has saved us from at least one reboot: The Crow (though as with Terminator the idea of rebooting it makes no damn sense since the very concept enables endless sequels with very little connective tissue to the originals
Playbill at least one cast member (Josh Gad) of Beauty & The Beast is done filming
The Matinee looks back at Her after reading Aziz Ansari's "Modern Romance"
E! Online WHOA. Kyle Chandler played Coach Taylor (Friday Night Lights) again... albeit for just a few seconds

YNMS
We've done so many of these lately that to do them all would be a bit like becoming a trailers only site and no thank you... so a few that we missed are Alex Ross Perry's Queen of Earth starring Elisabeth Moss who was so so excellent in Perry's Listen Up Philip (it also has a great poster!),  the Oscar hopeful Brooklyn (which I loved at Sundance), Nancy Meyer's The Intern which we will obviously see because Anne Hathaway (), the Half Nelson directors returning with Mississippi Grind though they've moved from Gosling to Reynolds in the "Ryan" department, that continuous shot German movie Victoria (which Sebastian already talked about) and the latest trailer for the animated version of The Little Prince

Video To Go
"Uptown Funk" as sung by the movies.

Cute. (I was wondering what they'd use for "Michelle Pfeiffer" and had no idea that she was referenced in The Bucket List) But wow is that a boy-movie montage. Even the dance breaks are sans-actresses!

That "Queen of Earth" trailer seems campier than I expected - I thought the movie itself was supposed to be pretty dark and grim? That trailer style reminded me of "An Unmarried Woman" and "The Goodbye Girl".

If TWC is releasing Macbeth through Radius, it's doubtful that they're planning any kind of Oscar campaign for it. The only Radius releases that get Oscar campaigns are documentaries. The plan to let Amazon stream it shortly after release is also eyebrow-raising - it's probably not getting a nationwide release.

We can't have a serious talk about gun control in this country until we completely take monied interests out of politics. COM. PLETE. LY. I commend the Schumers for their efforts, but our elected officials will not bite the hands that feed them, and the NRA and gun lobby are a ginormous hand.

Harvey hates Cotillard, really.

First, he campaigns her in lead for Nine, what caused a snub to a sure-fire nomination, the best performance in the movie.

Second, he buries the best performance of career in The Immigrant (silver lining: she had the Dardenne movie, too).

Now this.

Boo Harvey.

(I want that Queen of Earth poster)

Mark-that is pretty questionable logic. If we stopped watching the work of actors who won Oscars when we preferred someone else that year, we'd all be in trouble. Anyone want to give up Julianne Moore for Marion Cotillard? What about Paul Newman winning for Color of Money or Al Pacino taking it for Scent of a Woman or Meryl Streep for The Iron Lady? None of these "deserved" the Oscar that year, but that doesn't mean that I'm going to give up on three of acting giants as a result. I'm not on-board mostly because the trailer looks cloying (though I do usually end up seeing Nancy Meyers films even when I am grumbling initially), but her Oscar win has nothing to do with my decision, just or no.

I'll be the cynic here: doesn't it seem unlikely that a film version of "MacBeth" was going to be a major hit in the first place? Interesting casting aside, yet another Shakespeare adaptation is facing an uphill battle when it comes to seeming distinctive. And the most recent Shakespeare movies would be... Cymbeline, Coriolanus, Taymor's "Tempest", Hailee Steinfeld in "Romeo and Juliet"? I'm not saying those were failures but they haven't really had any staying power I'm not surprised that a studio would consider more niche distribution at this point.

Myers just needs to work with Diane Keaton. Baby Boom and Something's Gotta Give are her two high watermarks. Maybe Anne can be her new Diane (wait, what am I saying - no one is the "new" Diane).

"This is why i hate internet superhero culture. We've been hearing about this for about ten months. "

how about the film experience becomes a superhero/comic book-free zone? let the movie experience cover them
