Steven Spielberg's Les Misérables?

Do you think he ever fantasized about directing it? With lil' Christian Bale as Gavroche perhaps?

gavroche, the hero of our story, is a fatherless urchin
slow dolly zoom to gavroche's wide eyed face, staring in wonder at a crusty old criminal [offscreen] stealing some bread, as the music builds...
yes man you are right. nice post man.
nice post
Ha! Love this.
I fantasize about what-if Spielberg movies all the time.
I bet a 1980s Spielberg "Tintin" movie, live-action, would have been better than the one we eventually got.
I can't stop thinking of Bale looking at his Les Miz poster in American Psycho now. Maybe it's the performance that got away?
I think the time is now for Spielberg and Christian Bale to work together again.
@Steven
They were better artists back then.
Haha, this is actually great fun to imagine and cast. Circa 1987 who could have starred in this?
Maybe Mandy Patinkin, fresh off The Princess Bride, could have been a choice for Jean Valjean? He sure has the vocal chops to do it. The villain Javert could have been played by Terence Stamp. Inigo Montoya versus General Zod! Consider...
For Fantine, my personal choice would have been Glenn Close. At the peak of her star power, with her great singing voice and acting talent, she would have soared in this role.
For love birds Marius and Cosette, Michael Schoeffling and Brooke Shields, in a little bit of stunt casting (she actually has a pretty voice). Much like Samantha Barks was lifted out of Broadway, Tony Award winning Frances Ruffele could reprise her role of Eponine.
Bette Middler and Billy Crystal for the Thénardiers just to round up the cast.
He probably would've directed it better than Tom Hooper did.
Spielberg should really direct a musical
Has Spielberg ever done a musical? I kind of want to see Martin Scorcese try a musical. It is clear from his films that he pays attention to the score and uses the right music for the scenes. Maybe this would be a good fit for him? Maybe if he tried something small scale like Next to Normal since it would be his first? If it works that 2nd Oscar is his.
Tom - Scorsese did "New York, New York". But I wouldn't mind a change of pace from him at this point, for sure.
Thank you for reminding me that Christian Bale CAN in fact, sing. He should really do another musical.
I want to know what that shirt really says. It's not "Les Miserables" with that "gn" showing. Looks more like it might say "magnifique"? Perhaps it's a parody shirt? Hmm.
I believe this photo was photoshopped, because isn't that a Hunger Games symbol on his hat?
