October Highlights
October was busy busy busy with two festivals, the classic NYFF and the new Middleburg and our semi-annual Oscar Horrors (though a fourth season is somewhat unlikely given that we're running out of nominees outside of music and sound categories!). Here are 16 highlights from the spooky best-weather month in case you missed any of them. The fall is too too short, don't you agree?

Will there ever be a 1963 Supporting Actress Smackdown, or is it going to be a running joke that this particular Oscar race will never be repeated here?
I'd love to read about Kiss Me Deadly and The Third Man - two perfect and perfectly weird, underdiscussed noirs.
For Cape Fears 25th Anniversary will you be doing a smackdown and also can all readers say where Lange belongs in Lead or Supporting Actress, looking forward to everything.
I am hearing that Chastain is her best yet in Miss Sloane.
Looking forward to the film noir discussion, so many great ones. Hope In a Lonely Place, Scarlet Street, The Big Heat, This Gun for Hire and Nightmare Alley are all included.
I was wondering the same as MrW about the '63 Smackdown. I watched all three and have my comments all pulled together..
Another vote for the 63 Smackdown. Please, before the 2016 Oscars get out of hand.
ken -- they're already out of hand! you should see my calendar this week of lunches (sigh).
but i'll see what i can do. i know it's getting to be a mythical thing
